GI Bill isn't exactly as great as recruiters make it sound. Get the details before joining the service. Mor's a vet, trust him.

Also, don't join the service to go to war or to see action... that's dumb. Do it if it's something you actually want to live with. It's a serious thing. A lot of people join to see action (somewhere it became cool to have been to war), and realize a horrible truth once they get there... It's not fun at all, nor is it cool. War is hell.

Lastly, quit smoking pot. You're young, but in the service you will be hung for it. An "other than honorable" discharge on your record for drugs is not something you want to live with.

Mor's 2 cents. Sorry.

EDIT -- oh, sorry that was all off topic. Nice tunes budd. :rawk:

Awesome work on the Unforgiven solo! Actually all of them were pretty good.

I can't play guitar worth a damn... well just a couple Sevendust songs but that's about it. My little brother is pretty good with a guitar. He's about the same age as you I see... just a year older. Nice work man!

PS. Nothing wrong with a little wacky-tobakky. Unless of course you do plan on entering the service. Or law enforcement/criminal justice fields. :D

Nothing wrong with it as long as you're responsible about it. If you plan to do something as serious as joining the Marines, don't make pot a part of your life... Sure you can quit right before leaving, but The Mor has seen a lot of good guys go down for dumb crap like that. Not worth it budd.

Ah, but young Budd...neither does copying other's solos. ;)

It's like a parrot. They can mimic our voices perfectly, but can't talk on their own. Your guitar should be an extension of your soul. If all you can do is copy what others are saying then it's not really expressing yourself, is it?

Being able to play fast and play intricately makes you a machine. Being able to write something that makes someone else take notice makes you a guitarist.

The fact of the matter is yeah its a good song dday but theres no challenge in learning it. Nothing jimi played gives me a challenge You need to humble yourself man. Budd ...Even those hand picked solos seemed to challenge you. Those solos dont sound fluent or natural and your timing needs work. I did get a kick out of the "Nothing else matters solo" though. It was pretty cool. Id love to lay some drum tracks down to it, but my recording equipment is out of comision.

Budd, here's where your age is playing a factor. Someone came in and gave you constructive criticism, and you think he's "dissing" you. Here's a GREAT wakeup call for you Budd, not everyone is going to like you or your playing.

If all you wanted was for people to come into this thread and tell you how great you are, you should have said that. Notice something? I've never posted any of my music and said "hey everyone, come listen and tell me what you think!" And I'm trying to sell CDs.

McDuff was right when he said you need to humble yourself. I said this before in another thread, you're not going to be very well liked in club circuits with the chip you're carrying on your shoulder. There are guys out there in the clubs - and this is NOT a dis - who smoke you on guitar. You go in there telling everyone how great you are and you're gonna learn humilty but quick.

My band has had reviews where people say we SUCK. I don't take the attitude you're taking right now. I look for reasons why they would say that and try to improve. McDuff wasn't dissing you. If anything, he was trying to help as one musician to another. Not for anything, but my advice to you was going to be exactly what he said - to work on your timing and fluidity. That doesn't mean I'm "dissing" you.

Does that mean I think you suck? No. Does it mean I think you can't play? No. Does it mean I think you'll improve and have potential? Yes. But most of all, does it mean that I think you shouldn't be talking like a guitar god yet? Definitely.

If you choose to say you're not going to listen when someone gives you advice or criticism, I can tell you right now that your playing is never going to reach elite status. Once you think you know it all, you never learn.

I'm playing bass now 28 years, and I never stop learning. If someone offered me something contructive - as McDuffie did - I wouldn't cop that f'ed up attitude you just displayed. He didn't come in and say you suck. And even if he did, in an earlier post YOU were dissing Jimi Hendrix. You mean to tell me you think you're less deserving of criticism than he is?

Learn to accept when people criticise and try to help Budd, or you better look for another hobby because the only place you'll ever play in in your basement.

And that's advice coming from someone who's seen DOZENS of guys with the exact same attitude you have, and also seen what's happened to them.

Im not dissing jimi by the way, i said dont take this as a jimi bust. Man I love listening to jimi and all, but I really honestly dont find a challenge in his stuff. Thats just me, im not degrading him as a guitarist im just in a phase where i want to be challenged when i learn something. Dude, I hear ya. I've been playin guitar since I was 9 and Jimi, while great, isn't very challenging at all. You know what is an AWESOME solo to play? Both fun and sounds great? the Sweet Chold O Mine solo by Guns N Roses. Slash is an AWESOME guitar player. Prolly my favorite. I just like his style and his sound and everything. He may not be the most technical, but that guy just rocks. You should do the Sweet Child O Mine solo and post it, then I'll record mine and post it. My band actually covers that song. We are a punk band but we do a lot of "non traditional" covers. Like instead of your run of the mill punk covers that most punk bands do, like the Ramones or something, we like to take songs like Zeppelin or GNR and cover those. We do a SICK cover you "You Can't Always Get What You Want". All of us can play technical stuff on our respective instruments, so we could be a cover band and play all of that stuff normally, but collectively punk is our favorite music to listen to and play. Not that screaming crap though, or the "pop" crap, stuff like Bad Religion and Pennywise, old Offspring, thats all our style. I listen to that and classic rock like ACDC and Zeppelin and Clapton etc etc and "hair" metal like GNR and Motley Crue and Van Halen, all of those amazing guitarists influence my playing and it shows through our covers and original songs. INstead of the typical "3 power chord" punk we actually have riffs and solos in our music. IDK, I'm rambling because it's like 7am my time and I'm not supposed to be up this early, lol, anyway, try Sweet Child O Mine's solo, its so fun you'll fall in love with it.

Not a big slash fan my self...my dad saw guns n roses live like when they started getting big and he said slash was like the sloppiest guitarist hes ever seen. Thats just one mans opinion but anyway i dont know the sweet child o mine solo sorry...find me a tab thats pretty close to it though and i'll take a shot at it maybe tonight...

Pagan i did write a solo for my band for one of our songs pretty good too but its not quite finished yet...when im done with it i'll send to you or if you want to hear now just pm me.

Il sorry bout that big gun you wanted i cant get a good sound for it...but if ya want i'll be glad to still record what i know of the song for ya and send it to ya on aim

That one looks to be right, and I have Guitar Pro which has the right tab, if you have Guitar Pro I can link you to the file. The solo definately isn't the hardest I've learned, it's just a great sounding solo and super fun to play. As far as Slash being sloppy, I'm not really sure what to say to that except maybe your dad caught him on a bad night, lol. I did read that he used to employ a guy whos sole job was to carry him home after he passed out drunk because he was tired of waking up in bushes and random places, lollol. You can not be a fan of Slash, and maybe he didn't change the way people play guitar, like a Hendrix or Van Halen or Stevie Ray Vaughan, but Slash is a great guitarist nonetheless. ONe of MY personal favorites anyway. I like his whole style in general. I think some of the 80s "hair metal" guitarists were some of the best guitar players ever, and I like Slash the best because he didn't fall into the whole "dressing like a chick" thing, he was just the BA guitar player with his awesome top hat and the hair that covered his eyes and the cig in his mouth, he was just, IDK, I guess "cool: is the only way to describe it, lol.
