1. San Antonio Spurs

We would love to pick against the Spurs, if only to be different from the pack, and it's true that seven of their guys are 30 or older. But coach Gregg Popovich's iron hand and the multi-national coalition got a lot stronger by adding two cheeseheads (Michael Finley attended Wisconsin, Nick Van Exel grew up in Kenosha).

2. Detroit Pistons

Larry Brown's gone. So what? These guys are on autopilot now, with enough defensive discipline to last them another season while adding a little fun with the ball under Flip Saunders. Don't underestimate, either, the Pistons' drive to show it wasn't the previous coach who was responsible for their success.

3. Indiana Pacers

In talent and depth, it's hard to find a better roster. But Ron Artest still is tick-tick-ticking, and Stephen Jackson sounds as if he's one more David Stern dictum away from a meltdown. If the Pacers make it to the postseason intact, though, watch out!

4. Phoenix Suns

Assuming they don't sink too deep while Amare Stoudemire recuperates, the Suns should have enough firepower to play in April and May from a lower seed. Raja Bell and Kurt Thomas toughen things up considerably for these guys, and their coach, Mike D'Antoni, is underrated on any continent.

5. Miami Heat

Sheer talent and the heady expectations will keep the Heat close throughout, but this was a classic example of fixing something that wasn't broken. If any team needed to honor its pecking order, it was this one, as in Shaq 1, Wade 1A. But Antoine Walker and Jason Williams don't have the basketball IQ to count that high.

I think the SUNS have lost too much and won't be anywhere near what they were last year.

To put the heat that low is just idiotic. Pat riley knew what he was doing in getting rid of friggin d.jones and e.jones. Eddie choked in pressure situations. And d.jones is just a spot up shooter. The team was pretty one dimensional when down to crunch situations. We had no suprise methods. D.wade always got the ball down the stretch. Now we have a so many more options. I dont think it was broke. It just wasn't the best. We had to tweek the team to go further in the playoffs. And mark my words, I think atwoine walker is trade bait. I could be wrong but I dont see him with us deep in the season. I think he will be traded for nice bench help.

Sorry, but Toine is the guy thats going to get us over the hump. He and Wade carried the team yesterday, There isn't a player out there that we could concievably get for Toine that would help us more than he already does.

Im sorry yall but thats just my opinion. I did say I could be wrong. Remember that? My reasoning is that there are extra big heads on this team. I think toine is a great bench player but it wont take long for him to cause trouble and add quarling on the team. The guy always causes a problem somewhere. If he can keep his mouth shut and just play then I think he will last. BUT if he is a consistant problem expect him to be gone by the trade deadline. Pat riley dont play yall.

I think the pistons are def. still dangerous. They have all the same players and those players are friggin awsome. But without Larry brown there schemes change and attitude will change. The talent is there as a threat but I dont see them repeating as Eastern Conferenc champions. This is the Heats year finally. The Pacers dont scare me. Shaq and d.wade will take care of them.

I'm not saying the Pistons are going to go back to the Finals but don't sleep on them. A lot of those players have a lot to prove and want to prove that they were just as much a part of the franchise's success the past 2 years as Larry Brown was!

The "kids" wiped the floor with Knicks last night when it counted, in OT.. as the high priced losers from NY did NOTHING. No way this team is that bad..

I was simply responding to the list. No way the Celtics are as bad as that ranking makes them out to be.. never quoted you or anything.

We just happened to wipe the floor with you guys last night, no harm intended.
