I figured that this division deserves it's own thread because the Boston/NY/Philly/NJ bashing(we all know it will come down to it) might just spoil Ace88's thread..Plus this division has a lot of fans on the board.

With that said.. Go Celtics!!!!!!!!!!!

Good game, Detroit.

When Blount hit that 18 footer I almost lost it.. I know it's early yet, but he looks like a completely different person from last year.

We could have really used Tony Allen in that situation with .8 seconds left, but Hamilton is a great player and he drilled a heck of a shot.

It was a great game, hopefully we bounce back tomorrow night in Charlotte.

Man, the Knicks made me sick tonight. Missing big free-throws in the 4th was the nail in the coffin. Something's got to give with this team and Marbury has to go. I can't stand this guy anymore!

The Nets will win the Atlantic, however i still think the Sixers will turn it around. Losing to Charlotte is in-excusable, and you could argue Milwaukee is still not a very good team, however The Sixers are missing C - Samuel Dalembert, their ability to rebound is horrendous, they cant block shots without him either, the defense goes from bad to worse. I think when he comes back next week they should be fine. I'm still not sold on Boston or New York however, i think the two of them will both be on the outside looking in come May. But who knows, it's still early in the season anything could happen.

This division will be no contest at the top w/ the Nets easily winning it but there will be a big battle for 2-4 w/ Bos Philly & NY battling and I think every combo is possible and Toronto is a lock for last.

And your basing this on what? Last year?.. when we finished with a better record than Philly. It's still too early to tell, but right now the Celtics are clearly playing better basketball than the Sixers.

So you are telling me that only 2 teams from the Atlantic are going to make the playoffs? Gimme a break, the division was probably the worst in sports history last year, and it still put 3 teams in the playoffs.

Basing it on the fac that the heat replaced Antonie Walker and Gary Payton with Dan Dickau and Brian Scalibrine. Basing it on the fact that they weren't tremendous last year they won a weak division in a weak east with a weak coach, they got worse over the off-season and the east got better THUS i dont think they will make the playoffs and if they do it will be as an 8th seed and a 1st round knockout.

Who exactly in the Atlantic got better? The Knicks acquisition of Curry was great if he stays healthy.. the Nets improved too as did the Raptors. (People didn't like them taking Villanueva so early, but he's going to be a solid NBA player).

If you don't consider Delonte West an improvement over Gary Payton, and another year under the belt of Jefferson, Reed, Perkins and Co. it's simply asinine. And lets not forget the apparent re-emergence of Mark Blount, it seems to me the ONLY team in the division with relatively little improvement is Philadelphia.

Or the fact that Milwaukee, Orlando, Washington, Cleveland all got better in the off-season making the east stronger and knocking in my opinion the Celtics out of the playoffs......

New York coach Larry Brown is still trying to find the right combination that will bring the Knicks their first victory.Desperate for a win, Brown tinkered with the New York lineup, playing rookies David Lee (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/players/3956), Channing Frye (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/players/3934) and Nate Robinson (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/players/3947) together, and it seemed to spark the Knicks. However, Golden State proved to be too much for New York, as Jason Richardson (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/players/3515) had 24 points to lead the Warriors to an 83-81 victory on Sunday.

"I won't play the rookies all the time, but they earned it," Brown said. "It's going to take some time. We're trying to figure out who can play and who can help us."

tHE Sixers are just playing and letting the Knicks and Nets feel good for a little while.....although the Knicks hadn't won a game last time I checked.

I have been a Sixers fan since 1976 when they got Julius Dr J Erving from the ABA Nets. Doc was as good as MJ averaging 30 points a game and over 15 boards in the ABA...not bad for a guy 6'6" tall. My Sixers had the best rivalry with the Boston Celtics.....Andrew Toney always use to light up Danny Ainge, Dennis Johnson, Cornbread Maxwell.....Doc versus Bird....Bobby Jones and Caldwell Jones, and Moses Malone versus McHale, Bird and Parrish,,,,that was when the NBA was GREAT!!! Now Mo Cheeks has returned to lead the Sixers back to Glory!!!!
Year after year from the mid-1970s to the late 1980's the Sixers and Celtics had probably the greatest rivalry in basketball.

The Nets got screwed on the no call against Vince in the final seconds BUT when playing Miami w/o Shaq it shouldn't come down to a last second shot if the Nets are as good as they think they are.

It's hard to call a 1 pt game on the road a domination but I agree the Nets should never have allowed it to be so close w/o Shaq but Carter was fouled and Wade was not fouled and that had a direct effect on the outcome.

The thing is that the Heat without Shaq is still a #3 or #4 seed in the East.....we are no pushover...even without Shaq...

Don't forget that we dominated the Wizards in the second round of the playoffs without the big man.

The heat are not a 3 or 4 seed in the East w/o Shaq. On a short term basis the Heat can win games but over the long haul they would not be able to handle his absence.

Just re-read your statement and you'll laugh out loud- "we dominated the Wizards in the second round of the playoffs without the big man.".

Listen.

The Heat without Shaq would be the 3rd best team in the east and at worst the 4th best.

As for "it is gonna blow!" That is all media spin that everybody outside of Miami is hoping will come to fruition.

The facts are that you can't find a single negative quote on record anywhere from Toine when he was in Dallas and he was coming off the bench and getting half the shots he gets here.

It is also funny how Steven A Smith the other day said that he found only one disruptive comment ever made by Toine and that was a last season when he said he needed to play on a winner....

The knock on Toine has always been that he takes ill advised shots....on this team that is not a problem because he is the third option.

Where aare all these headcases? I don't see them....I see a Jason Williams playing in the flow and distributing the basketball and a Payton that is playing the best defense he has played in the last 4 years and a toine that is contributing.

Stop with the spin.

They are all selfish players who have not won a thing since coming into the league. As for Walker, he's been on talented teams and the reason he hasn't won is probbaly b/c of himself. The Mavs were in the West Conf Finals the year before he showed up then bowed out in Rd 1 the year he was there.

As for jason Williams, he is a great guy  I love how he wants to be eminem in the worst way and how hw thretened that reporter last year. What a tough guy! As for him on court, he's been a loser everywhere he's gone. He leaves UF they go to the Final Four 2 years later, he leaves Sac they then make the Conf Finals the next year. A bunch of winners you have acquired!

On to Gary payton, obviously he's over the hill but he did a great job in helping that Laker team(a team MUCH more talaneted than the current Heat squad) win a Championship. All great moves and great guys you broguht in- good luck

J-Will is what he is....a good ballhandler and streak scorer....he is playing well for us now.

That Laker team wasn't more talented than this heat team....that Laker team had Kobe, Shaq, and a bunch of role players (yes, Karl Malone was a role player then) This Heat team is more talented...it just is. Wade, Shaq, Toine, J-Will, Posey, Haslem, Payton as a core is more talented than what the Lakers had that year.

Now 6-5 after 2 straight losses to the Heat and Cavs. The Cavs game was disappointing because they had a 9 point lead relatively late in the game but the Heat game is understandable. I still feel good about this team when Dalembert comes back though, but it's a shame we cant defend better or AI cant play the point as well as a guy like Kidd or Nash.

Maybe because he's a true shooting guard. Nash and Kidd are true point guards, pass first, score if you can. A.I. is score first, second , and third, and then pass. Don't get it twisted, he gets his assists but he's not a 1, he's a 2 who likes to put the ball in the basket. Not his fault he's playing out of position. I really think it's time teams start drafting true point guards in the draft. Look at Chris Duhon in Chicago. He's made them a better team by just being a pure point who see's the floor and looks for his teammates. More teams need to look into guys who make their teams better, not guys who fill up the stat sheets night in and night out!

Well i agree with you completely. Iverson doesn't play the tradition create shots for other player, pass first PG, which is why he will never be an elite PG but IS an elite scorer. However Iverson is simply too small to play SG, and doesn't play well enough defense to guard 2 guards like Kobe, T-Mac etc. He's a great player dont get me wrong, but i dont think the Sixers can win with him and thats sad because he has a heart bigger than any NBA player and craves a championship SO bad.

Since you are a Celtics fan, maybe you can help me out here. Gerald Green is suppose to be like my man T-Mac down the road. I noticed that he hasn't played a game for you guys this season and I figured that he would be apart of the rotation, but I guess I was wrong. What has been up with him?

I think the organization wants to give him some time. He's still relatively small, he hasn't had time to grow into his own body yet. He doesn't know how to play team defense yet, which is a problem with most high schoolers. I think alot of Celtics fans got spoiled with the emergence of Al Jefferson last year, and with that being the exception not the rule, they don't want to put any unnecessary pressure on the youngster.

Apparently he's the real deal and he looked really good in the Summer League in Vegas, but it's going to take time. I don't expect to see him at all this year.

:yeahthat: The man has great court vision, he's just to green right now (pardon the pun).

Win or lose tonight, I think Kendrick Perkins has earned himself a spot in the starting lineup. It should also send Mark Blount to the bench permanently. I'll admit, I was fooled by Blounts aparent re-emergence early on in the year, but he's the same old careless piece of garbage he was last year.

Perkins has grown up alot since entering the league. He's an absolute monster on the glass, and we really have something in this kid.

I hate losing to the Celtics....it goes back to the rivalry days....Wilt versus Russell.....Bird versus Dr. J.....Andrew Toney versus Dennis Johnson and Danny Ainge....Moses Malone versus McHale and Parrish.....those were the good old days. AI had 40 tonight but it wasn't enough. :(

Good win last night...

This team is so inconsistent they'll probably go out and lay an egg against the Bulls on Friday.

Perkins, Jefferson, West and Green, this organization has a VERY bright future. Just sit back and watch them develop.

Who's the Celtics center? Both Blount and Lafrentz are killing me in fantasy leagues. Is Perkins their center?

LaFrentz is more of a Power Forward. Blount sucks, and Kendrick is seeing increased playing time. The kid is a beast on the glass, but he still needs to develop his offensive game.

Perkins is going to be a real good and he's pretty much locked up the starting Center spot. At this point though, if your looking for that position then I'd stay away from this entire Celtics team.

Centers are just so hard to come by. I only mentioned LaFrentz because he's eligible as a center on yahoo.

Yeah definitely, Centers are such a premium.

I don't know your fantasy situation, but if you have to start a Celtic at that position, it's going to depend on what category you are looking to improve. We don't have that one guy who can do it all, at least not yet (although I think Perkins is going to develop into that guy).

But if your looking for points, I'd go with LaFrentz. He's got a nice stroke from outside, but he isn't going to do much else for you. If you want to up your rebound totals then Perkins is definitely the guy, he's a monster on the glass but he's going to struggle to score 10 points most nights. However, I think the guy who's going to give you the most consistent production from both a Rebounding and Point total standpoint is Al Jefferson. I'm not sure if he qualifies for a Center position in your league or not, but I don't see why he wouldn't.

I think he'd be your best bet, but that's only if he's still available.

Jefferson is only a PF in my leagues. I dropped LaFrentz for Chris Mihm. My other center is Joel Przybilla.

Hey, Mihm works. A former Celtic who is definitely a better option than anything we have to offer.

right now Temple is playing better than the Sixers....though we did barely beat an IMPRESSIVE (yawn) Bobcats team last night.

The Knicks lost again (and suck) but I just wanted to add that Dwight Howard is a monster and is going to be a force in the NBA. The guys arms are the size of most people heads. He's going to be great.

The Knicks suck so I ain't really got much to say about them LMAO!

Chris Webber has played well as of late, which is always a very good sign. He's had some monsterous passes (which we expected) but looks like he's gotten an extra bounce in his step. I think the Sixers need to win every game they can right now because they have an awful road trip coming up, going out to L.A and Sacremento and Seattle it's horrible. Miami will be a tall order on friday though......
