Why do all the press keep saying that USC are going for a third straight national championship?

Now I know they beat/slaughtered/destroyed the Sooners last year in the Natonal championship (Orange Bowl), but the year before the National championship was between the Sooners and LSU in the Sugar Bowl! USC Beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl 24 - 14, but the Rose Bowl was not for the National Championship - So why all this talk of a 3-peat? Am I missing something here?

Being from England, its taken me years to work out this crazy BCS system, and just as I thought I had it figured out, now I dont!!!

Cheers Andy

Exactly there was an agreement that whoever won the BCS title game the AP voters would vote for them and so the BCS title winner would be #1 in the BCS and the AP, however 2 years ago the AP voters broke the agreement and most voted USC as national chmapion therefore having a split title. That is not uncommon there have been a decent amount of co-champions before the BCS happened and that is why the BCS was created to solve that problem...good job BCS..:shakeno:

I agree....whoever wins the BCS title game is the ONLY champion. Friggin overated big 12 as usual screwed up what would've been a fantastic LSU vs. USC matchup.
