I heard they were on the verge of a deal. No surprise that it's done. Otsuka would be a nice addition.

Xavier Nady CF

This is what I'm hearing on the radio. They wanted to dump Cameron's attitude and salary.

Nady also plays 1st base and is a righty (Platoon with Jacobs?)

Soriano trade is in the works.

Diaz will play right (unless traded for Rameriz who now has the Mets, Angels, Diamondbacks and Indians on his list of teams he will play for)

Wagner will be signed

Again, it's rumors, take for what its worth.

Yeah, I've heard Nady. Kinda lateral for the Mets, not like they need salary relief. As for the Pads, why give up Nady? He's got more power than Cameron. I dunno...

For the Mets, salary relief and future moves?

The Padres, they wanted a good CF.

YES, they need salary relief. They are talking about adding Molina at catcher and one of either Delgado/Soriano/Manny, and either Hoffman or Wagner.

THEY NEEDED OUT FROM UNDER CAMERON's $7 mill next season.

And they Padres wanted no part of Nady because Nady is a firstbasemen playing RF out of position and told the club he wasn't playing RF anymore, so they had to move him

I dunno, Nady'll probably become a Marlin killer, but I'm not too impressed for either side. But apparently the Pads wanted Cammy when he was a FA in 2003, so they're probably happy.

I agree with you, if the Mets want Soriano, Delgado, Billy Wagner/Hoffman/B.J. Ryan/A.J. Burnett and Molina they have to cut salary. They have Diaz who can fill in in RF. So why not get rid of Cameron.

I think Nady came up originially as a 2nd baseman. Then switched to the OF and most recently 1st base.

He can go to the Cubs and become a lovable loser like the rest of them, or come to the Mets and win!

I haven't laughed that hard in awhile. Thanks man. Although it has happened before once or twice..... just not often.

(I'm sure we'll be at each other's throats in a day or so don't worry).

You had your one year of having Pedro healthy, now you'll experience the pain Cubs fans by only having both their aces for half a year. You can't be without your stars most of the year & expect to win.

i think the trade makes sense for both teams. The Padres need offense and Nady never really lived up to his hype. Cameron is an upgrade over Nady. Escpecially with SD maybe losing Ramon Hernandez and Brian Giles they really need some offense.

NY needed cap relief and got a player that could play RF or play 1B, they got some flexibility to make a run at a real player.

Rumor is that Nady may be in a package for Manny are hitting up on the Radio.

If the Mets were getting Nady because the Red Sox, or someone else, love him, then wonderful. But I'm not sure the trade makes sense. Cameron's $7M salary getting moved will help, but he had a lot of value. A center fielder with an excellent glove and 25-30 HR power who can run and draw walks? Plus, he's not signed long term, just this year and a club option for 2007, so the monetary downside wasn't bad. They did not have to do a straight salary dump.

More irritating to me is this: if the Mets had to take 75 cents on the dollar for Cameron, it was their own damn fault. They didn't trade him in June when his value was at an all-time high and when he was playing the part of a good soldier. There was no conceivable way Cam was going to keep producing like he was, but Omar Minaya let it play out, and predictably, Cameron's numbers came back to earth and then he got hurt. I don't blame Minaya for failing to trade Cameron before his injury, of course; no one could foresee that, but I do blame him for not getting a much more favorable deal than Xavier Nady in June or thereabouts.

Nady will be a good platoon-mate for Mike Jacobs at first and a decent fourth outfielder, which will be important when Cliff Floyd gets hurt or Vic Diaz slumps. But they traded a valuable player for a spare part. I mean, they didn't even get the Padres to send back one of their dozen quality relief pitchers, for crying out loud!

Maybe the Sox talked to the Mets and said, "get Nady from San Diego, package him with two good pitchers and we'll give you Ramirez." If that's the case, then great. But for now, I'm not a big fan of this deal.
