Sexed-up, profanity-laced shows on cable and satellite TV should be for adult eyes only, and providers must do more to shield children or could find themselves facing indecency fines, the nation’s top communications regulator says.

“Parents need better and more tools to help them navigate the entertainment waters, particularly on cable and satellite TV,” Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin told Congress on Tuesday.

Martin suggested several options, including a “family-friendly” tier of channels that would offer shows suitable for kids, such as the programs shown on the Nickelodeon channel.

Don't they already have the chips in the cable box, and the parental lock? Not that I am a huge fan of them, but why should the cable companies go out of their way for parental short-comings? That means I will have to pay more for my cable because someone can't (or is too lazy to) control their little crap-factories.

Gonzo, sweet av, I loved the movie.

I like how other countries have soft core porn for their TV shows. We need that here... ****ing christian right ruins everything for everyone.

:D 'Tis the season.

The censorship works as well as the drinking age limits alcoholism. Boobies are the most dangerous things on earth, after all. These are the same people that hide their porn better than their guns.

without sex or violence, there is nothing to write a show about. it would just be a bunch of "moral" stories. and to be honest, ive seen enough of those growing up.

my fav. shows:
Family Guy
ROME (HBO)

Perfect examples of moral stories. A show about a simple guy and his family, including his silly dog, and a historical drama on the lives of families in ancient Rome and the moral dilemmas they faced everyday, such as whether or not to hump your own sister.

Of course I have. They are greats. We had a thread in here somewhere on Rome (too lazy to go find it). Hopefully there will be a second series. Extras was awesome too.

They really should leave cable alone.

They really should leave cable alone. nowadays many think of cable as regular TV. and paying for it simply gives you more stations. i just wish there were stations like HBO on regular cable, that didnt edit or censor their shows. maybe the cable company could single out those stations and if the viewer didnt want them, they could block those stations.

i just hate paying extra to watch a program that doesnt bleep out all the "bad" words.
