I am looking into a new hard drive and i notice that they have different interfaces and i was wondering how i figure out which interface i currently have...and if it matters if i get the same interface(example: IDE Ultra ATA100 and IDE Ultra ATA133). Thanks

Thanksthere are basically three, and it is very doubtful that you have a scsi interface, so I am betting on IDE. what kind of computer do you have? how old? etc. IF you are just looking to expand storage for music, pictures etc, you can't go wrong with any IDE 120gig plus.

there is also a serial ata ... blazing fast, but needs a special connection on the board, and a serial ata drive...

the number after the ATA refers to the bus speed of the connection...find out what your board is capable of.

there are basically three, and it is very doubtful that you have a scsi interface, so I am betting on IDE. what kind of computer do you have? how old? etc. IF you are just looking to expand storage for music, pictures etc, you can't go wrong with any IDE 120gig plus.

well its my parents computer and they have no room left on there hard drive so i was thinking about getting a new one for christmas...its a sony but i do not know the model and i want to say around 2000-2001. How do i find out the bus speed to know wheater to get the ATA100 or the ATA133?

get whatever is cheaper. Honestly you won't see the difference, unless your doing some heavy I/O work. 133 will auto scale back to 100 s o its no biggie

Also, If you wait until right after Christmas, there are usually very good deals for HDs at like Staples or Office Max.. :2c:

Airmen, seamen, army, and I married another marine. yep my joint services award, is a medal I carry with honor. I like the stewardesses in the air force the most though.

Why does the coast guard get no love? And Army girls? You, sir, are a braver man than I. I had an untouchable radius around my base of 100 miles. Got out clean and baby free! :lol:

I was Army... but I still wouldn't dis the Coast Guard... those guys have a tough job.
