You may feel an impulse to swallow hard before you purchase a car with a price that pushes near or even into six figures. But hold on to your wallet, because the dollar drain has just been opened.

The full cost of ownership for any automobile can be eye popping. The figures for expensive luxury models are especially high because vehicle depreciation — the loss of resale value as a car, truck, van or sport utility vehicle ages — is the biggest single car ownership cost, said Michael Calkins, manager of approved auto repair for the AAA National Office. For a vehicle with a higher initial purchase price, the loss adds up to a greater monetary amount than it does for a low-cost car that began its life with little to lose.

Only high-flying luxury cars and sport utilities appear on this ranking of the 10 most expensive vehicles to own because their depreciation is so great. “Some of these vehicles may depreciate slower than lower priced cars,” says Calkins. “But even if the percentage is the same for, say, a Chevy and a Mercedes, the dollars add up to a greater amount for the Mercedes.”

I have recently started my "Jason's Ferrari" fund, lol. I am DETERMINED to own a Ferrari, THIS one:
http://www.finheaven.com/clear.gif
I fell in love with that Ferrari the second I saw it. I want mine black with tan interior, and I wanna put black rims on it and black out the windows. It's gonna take awhile but it DOES help that I pull in EXCELLENT money bartending at 2 clubs here in Hawai'i plus I bartend at home and also do comissioned graphic design work. One day I WILL be driving that. The insurance will KILL me though. Right now I own a Dodge RAM pickup and a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX. My insurance JUST on the Eclipse is $800 a MONTH. I HAVE had a few speeding tickets and my license has been suspended twice, once for doing 127 in a 25 zone with construction work AND by a State Trooper, lol, and once for failure to pay a fine (I COMPLETELY forgot about it). INsurance on a freakin FERRARI, as a 21 year old male with my speeding tickets and 2 suspendeds? It's going to kill me, lol. Well, I won't be 21 when I get the Ferrari, and I haven't been pulled over in 2 years so hopefully it won't be TOO bad with a clean driving record from now til then.

yeah, that comes from when I was 18 and first got my taste of fast cars, lol. My first car was a Jetta, nothing great, just the crappy first car most people usually get. Then I upgraded to the Eclipse and it is a blast, its the turbo model plus a standard, so I went crazy, lol. I'm obviously paying for it (literally) now, 3 years later, lol.

And it's actually something like $834 a month to be exact. JUST on the car, I own a truck too.
