LOS ANGELES - Richard Pryor, the caustic yet perceptive actor-comedian who lived dangerously close to the edge both on stage and off, died Saturday. He was 65.

Pryor died shortly before 8 a.m. of a heart attack after being taken to a hospital from his home in the San Fernando Valley, said his business manager, Karen Finch. He had been ill for years with multiple sclerosis, a degenerative disease of the nervous system.

"We loved him and will miss you," his ex-wife, Flynn Pryor, said from her Florida home.

Pryor was regarded early in his career as one of the most foul-mouthed comics in the business, but he gained a wide following for his expletive-filled but universal and frequently personal insights into modern life and race relations.

Good bye and thank you, Richard.

I saw on the 2 different news stations and they both confirmed it. Great comedian and he'll be missed by all especially his biggest influence Eddie Murphey

Not only was he one of the greatest talents ever in comedy, he had a lasting impact on future comedians. Shame he didnt do much in the 90s because of multiple sclerosis... RIP

my all-time favorite stand-up comedian - live in concert was the best - watch this and then watch eddie murphy delirious - see if you count how many times eddie ripped richard off...

Richard Pryor: I like makin' love myself, and I can make love for about three minutes. I do about three minutes of serious f***in', then I need eight hours sleep! And a bowl of Wheaties!

Richard Pryor: There are two billion chinese people livin' in China. That's how you know someone's doing some serious f***ing...
