Iowa choked big time this year. they had a chance to win the Big 10 and be the number 3 team in the NCAA if you ask me. They are a mediocre football team who failed this season just like the Vols and Gators. Didn't live up to the hype and are very disappointing.

 Chandler didn't do much, it was all Fred Russell. Leak made the right decision. He was a true freshman with only a hand full of starts under his belt when he played that game under a mediocre coach. That game has no bearing whatsoever on this year's game. New players, new system,MUCH better coaching staff, and MUCH better defense!

Best team in Iowa is the Cyclones. They lost 4 games, three in overtime, and 1 to Baylor. All games they easily could have won. They should have gone 11-1 this year losing to texas in the championship.

lmao they have 4 losses, but they COULD'VE been 12-0?

Oboy
12-15-2005, 03:24 PM
When are people going to realize, EVERY team COULD have been 12-0 (well except the ones that only play 11 games). That is why they play. Miami very well could have been undefeated. UF very well could have only one loss... (imagine if they played bama without Prothero and USC early in the year) They happened to catch two teams when they were hot. Then again, by the same accord they could have played UGA with Shockley. Thus maybe two losses.

Anyway, my POINT... NEVER point out what COULD have been. IT IS NOT. MOVE ON. Both teams are in the bowl because that is where their season landed them. It should be a good game.

For all the trash... I sure hope Packers fan will be around if they lose. I have already seen Speedrush take some crow...

kastofsna120
12-15-2005, 04:18 PM
if every one-point loss, overtime loss, come-from-behind loss, etc, are "should've won" games, there'd be a lot of really good teams, and some good teams that suddenly don't look so good

Allright enough speedrush, enough.

You say that this Flolrida team is different from the last outback team.(Well I hope so cause we easily beat that team) Well they were a more physical team under Zook than Meyer and thats where we beat you last time. Now we have an even more explosive offensive and veteran leadership on defensive(espically know at corner). Yes we know you have a better team and more talent you did last time also and we still won by 20. Do I think we'll win by 20 again, no it well be closer but we still be more physical on both sides of the ball and be able to control the game.

You lost me right there. Obviously you haven't seen them play this year. Top 10 defense all year and their not physical? You Iowa fans need to stop living in the past, yeah you beat us by 20, 2 years ago! With a mediocre coach, true freshman QB, weak running game, and a soft defense. We'll see what happens this year. here is my outlook on the game Iowa wins 27-17 that was a guess but it will be around that score

so I think Chris Leak and Drew Tate will get some passing yards and that also Iowa will get more rushing yards plus a Field goal or two from Schlicher and win it I think it will Iowa leading close to 7 or 10 points. as for the Defense they will both be tough but I think Florida has the better Defense because the Front Seven for Iowa and a Linebacker and both Safety's are new

Absolutely. Couldn't be happier. He's done a great job adapting his system to the players he was given. The next few years should be great as he gets the players he needs for his own style, like Tim Tebow. This is already shaping up to be one of the best recruiting years in a long time for the Gators.

And most importantly we took back the Swamp.

Outback Bowl
There's no argument here if you want to put this game higher. Expect a lot of defense and some great coaching, but also expect a lot of pressure and expectations. If Urban Meyer doesn't want to be Ron Zook, he has to win bowl games. Iowa ended the season hot and has won two straight bowl games, including a 37-17 win over the Gators in the 2004 Outback Bowl. This is a better Florida team.

Glamour shot (Physical beauty): Iowa beat Florida in the 2004 Outback Bowl in a 37-17 stunner. This year's Hawkeye team features one of the nation's best linebacking corps led by Chad Greenway and Abdul Hodge, while Florida looks to show that the spread can work against a good defense.
Good personality (Inner beauty): After all of the problems and disappointments, Florida and head coach Urban Meyer can finish with a solid nine-win season and an important stepping-stone win over the improving Hawkeyes. Iowa can use this to create a buzz going into next year when it should be a top 15 team.
Stars of the show: 1. Chad Greenway, LB Iowa, 2. Chris Leak, QB Florida
Early prediction: Florida 23 ... Iowa 20

BS, look at the game threads, I was the first one to say the refs were horrible. People need to get over it, even Chad Greenway said "you can't put in on the refs, we didn't play well enough to win, they were the better team." Iowa played like crap in the first half and wanna use the refs as a scapegoat.

Subject: Who was offside?

Officials Play Bad Santa to Iowa, Michigan.....

Bowl season is maybe the biggest attraction for loyal
college football fans.
For the faithful, it is a last chance to watch their
favorite teams before a
long and seemingly endless offseason. For some of the
players, it is the
last time they will ever wear their college uniform. Unfortunately, the
images and memories of that final game may be
bittersweet, and even foul
tasting at times. That will likely be the case for a
pair of Big Ten teams.

If the subpar officiating in the Michigan-Nebraska
game was hard to watch,
the Conference USA crew made the Iowa-Florida game
nearly unbearable to
view.

Florida jumped out quickly 17-0 on Iowa and looked to
have the Hawks right
where they wanted them. But then Iowa came to life and
closed the gap to
17-7 with barely over a minute left in the opening
half. Then the officials
got involved.

After Iowa was hit with a questionable flag for
running into the punter that
gave the ball back to the Gators, Chris Leak scrambled
on first down and was
brought down after a minimal gain. Defensive end Kenny
Iwebema was flagged
for a helmet-to-helmet hit, but the replay clearly
showed that Iwebema never
came close to hitting Leak with his helmet. The flag
stopped the clock and
gave the Gators the ball inside the Iowa 40-yard line.
A few plays later,
Florida got their 17 point lead back. If the call
unnerved some, it would
only get uglier in the second half.

In the third quarter, the Iowa defense was flagged for interfering with the
Gators count. Instead of facing a third down
situation, the call, which I
had yet to see called in the 2005 season until this
game, gave the Gators a
first down and Florida scored on the very next play to
make the score 31-7.

On the very next possession, the ridiculous became
idiotic as Iowa receiver
Clinton Solomon was penalized 15 yards for grabbing a
face mask. The major
problem with the call was that Solomon was the one who
was dragged down by
the face mask by a Florida defender Vernell Brown.

Officials may have tried to make up for their
ineptitude later by giving
Iowa a gift first down when Solomon was clearly
brought down two yards short
of the marker. Unfortunately, it did nothing to
improve the competence level
of the C-USA crew.

And they continued to blow obvious calls by not
flagging Florida for too
many men on the field on at least one occasion. But
possibly the
best......or worst was saved for last by this crew.

After Iowa scored 17 unanswered points in the final
quarter to narrow the
score to 31-24, the teams lined up for the obvious
onsides kick.

Iowa kicker Kyle Schlicher hit the ball perfectly and
when Scott Chandler
recovered, visions of a replay of the comeback victory
over LSU a year ago
in the Capitol One Bowl were alive and well. But the
officials quickly
dashed any hopes by calling Iowa offsides on the
kickoff. Once again, the
replay clearly showed the call was dead wrong, but the
Hawkeyes hopes for a
comeback were over.

Considering how Nebraska and Florida moved the ball on
the Big Ten teams,
there is no guarantee Iowa or Michigan could have
beaten their bowl
opponents. Florida shut down the Iowa ground attack
and the Huskers ran the
ball almost at will on the Wolverines. The unfortunate
part is that no one
will ever know if Iowa or Michigan could have come
back and won.

Every player who walks onto the football field knows
there is a distinct
possiblity he could walk off on the losing end.
Victory is guaranteed to no
one. But there is no worse feeling than not having the
chance to win.

this is what I found

Sadly, that is what the Sun Belt and Conference USA
crews did to Michigan
and Iowa. They cheated them of their chance to win
with their inept
officiating.

The powers that be bemoan the fact that having a
playoff system would hurt
the integrity of the bowls.

Maybe those same people should think about what
handing major bowl
assignments to inept officiating crews does for the
integrity of their
precious bowls.

Wow you are a poor loser. Refs are part of the game. I also said the refs were horrible and it was a shame that that last call is the ONLY one getting all the publicity. BUT it was not the only bad one. There were plenty of bad calls. GET OVER IT. YOU LOST.

Half of my family is from Iowa and the other half is from Chicago. EVERYONE of them is saying the same thing. "Iowa lost". Get over it. UF has been screwed by the refs MANY a times.
