How the hell can clean ACL tears that he's expected to return from by July be career ending?

Carson Palmer's knee injury was "devastating and potentially career-ending," involving numerous ligament tears, a shredded ligament, damaged cartilage and a dislocated kneecap, his surgeon said Thursday.

"It's a magnitude more difficult to recover from and repair. It can and has ended careers, without a doubt.

"The things that were torn could be repaired," he said. "They were not torn beyond repair. So he's got all his parts in there, which is good. We're optimistic, actually." If rehabilitation goes well, Palmer could be running in a couple of months and might be able to play in the first regular season game, Paulos said. The 2006 schedule hasn't been set.

Damn this guy was establishing himself as one of the best in the league no question. Terrible blow for this team if he can't comeback. I really enjoyed the highpowered offense in Cincy, hope he can comeback. You think they will have to draft a Qb early, possibly firstday (3rd round maybe?) to make sure to have someone? I know they like Kitna so he will probaly stay there but they might have to get someone else in there incase he can't comeback.

It's not as negative as some have made it out to be, but it's bad.

I hate ESPN. Palmer is my favorite player (after Madison) & when you see the title to an article read "Palmer injury Potential Carrer-Ending", your heart jumps up in throat. Then you read in the article: "Carson Palmer's knee injury was devastating and potentially career-ending, involving numerous ligament tears, a shredded ligament, damaged cartilage and a dislocated kneecap, his surgeon said Thursday. Bunch of pricks looking for a headline.

After reading the article it really just sounds like Dr. Lonnie Paulos is trying to make a name for himself by calling it potentially career ending, since he was the alternate doctor that performed the surgery because the world renown Dr. James Andrews had a heart attack last week.

Terrible news if Palmer's career is over, I really don't think it is though... and I say that he'll be back at the beginning of preseason.

Report on ESPN is that it is NOT a career ender. The doctor gave a statement that he was misunderstood. He was making a general statement about the severity of Palmer's injury, and that it COULD be career ending in other athletes. He went on to say how Palmer has a very good chance of recovering by camp.

He will be back. No doubt in my mind. He isnt a scrambling/rollout type QB so he will do well. But if Vick has this injury he is done.

I know, I was thinking the same thing... so sad...

They changed the title to Palmer's doctor quells fears about QB's knee surgery (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2290916)

geez, at least its unlikely that this will end his career but hopefully he can eventually make it back at full strength.
