Bengals | Palmer's injury could be career threatening
Thu, 12 Jan 2006 16:24:04 -0800

Updating a previous report, the Associated Press reports the knee injury suffered by Cincinnati Bengals QB Carson Palmer (knee) could be career threatening. His surgeon said Thursday, Jan. 12, that the injury was "devastating and potentially career-ending," involving numerous ligament tears, a shredded ligament, damaged cartilage and a dislocated kneecap. "It's not just like it was a torn ACL," Dr. Lonnie Paulos said Thursday, Jan. 12, in a phone interview from Houston. "It's a magnitude more difficult to recover from and repair. It can and has ended careers, without a doubt. However, I feel very comfortable with Carson as an athlete and the heart that he's got. In the end, that's the bottom line. I can see the look in his eye already. He's ready to get going." The surgeon said the injury was off the chart. "On a scale of one to three, it was a four," he said. "It was off the chart. It was pretty badly damaged - shredded is the better term." If rehabilitation goes well, Palmer could be running in a couple of months and might be able to play in the first regular season game, Paulos said.

This is just horrible for him if he can't return. One of the only non-fin players I liked to watch.

That's really bad. I really liked Carson and was hoping he would have a great career and he hardly got his feet wet.

Yikes, that is horrible news. I hope he can fight through this and make a full recovery.

I think he is a great QB, and I don't want his career to end this soon.

Get well soon Carson.

geez... i agree with you ether. I loved watching him play. He's a competitor though; if it's at all possible, he'll be back. Good luck Carson and the bengals

Same with me man, for some reason I really like him. I really really hope he comes back after this, he was on his way to being a Peyton Manning-caliber QB IMO.

Agreed. Heck let him play in a wheelchair. He can get more zip on that ball sitting down than Feidler ever could.

I also notice your sig. where Pricko says Zach is "decent" but won't fare well in the new scheme. I guess he is as decent as Chambers!

the article isn't as negative as it's being made out to be. It's being stated that it was a horrific injury and that it has ended careers, but it's also stated that the surgery went well and Carson's expected to return next year.

apparently he'll be wearing more substantial braces and probably will not be very mobile in the pocket, but he may not have to be.

God this would be terrible for the game if he went out. And for the Bengals.

I second that Cincy was fun to watch this year because of Palmer
