Let's all take a DEEP breath after that last game and watch another BIG game on the NFC side. I'm going with the Bears 21-14 here. They should be able to hold down the Panthers offense. Then again, I was wrong about the Colts. :chuckle:

I am going for the Panthers because that would be the best possible outcome for the Dolphins. If the Bears lose, Ron Rivera will be free to become a head coach anywhere. It seems while Linehan is the favorite in St. Louis, they are still waiting to see what happens with Rivera and the Bears. If the Bears win, there is a chance they may just totally give up on him and sign Linehan.

Go Panthers!

LOL, OK. If you say so. It looked like that probably because you picked the Bears to win so it fits your pick better. Aikman and Buck were very surprised after looking at it over and over again that the play would stand. Crazy call. But you obviously saw it differently. 'Nuff said.

 I have no favorite in this game.

I just played it back 5 times in frame by frame advance. the Carolina player clearly drapes his right arm around the Bear player in an attempt to jar the ball loose and came in contact with his hand as his knee is on the ground. What's more, you can't even see his left arm, but it's possible that it made contact as well. We can't use that in a determination of the review, but still...

Aikman and Buck weren't playing it back in frame by frame advance, but slo motion. I played it a frame at a time.

If you are incapable to responding to others opinions maturely, I suggest you find something else to do today.

Are you kidding? Remember the Immaculate Reception? Madden STILL hasn't gotten over it.

I also saw one of those ESPN Classics with the Redskins-49ers 1983 conference championship games with some (obviously) blown calls against the 49ers late and the players are still peeved to this day about it.

today's officials are subject to so much more scrutiny because they're graded on every play and today's technology and video feeds make it so much easier to find their mistakes. so I believe that A. their mistakes are more visible due to the enlarged media and B. this allows them to improve their officiating.

Would you grow up? Before you had the audacity to state I disagreed with your assessment of the (correctly) ruled call on the field that the Bears player was down by contact because I must have "picked the Bears" to win the game.

I actually sat down for 5 minutes and replayed the play, out of my own curiosity, 5 times, frame by frame advance. I watched it about 10 times to make sure I didn't miss anything.

Did you? Didn't think so. Enough of your guff just because I actually disagree with you. I'm not sure why you always seem to take it personally.

Improvement?

I just don't see any evidence that the officiating is truly "getting worse", and unfortunately it's something that will always remain up to debate because there's not really any way to "measure" it. I think it's a matter of perception versus reality. It's a tough game to officiate, and calls get missed, some worse than others. The fact that any viewer can point out major gaffes in past years even going decades back is an attest to this.

Also, the game has become more complex and the rules more and more technical. Look at how closely "catches" and "fumbles" are scrutinized nowadays, like somebody else stated today. It used to be black and white. Now you have to have 5 camera angles just to reveal that yes, it was a catch.

And yes, officials are graded on each play, and only the ones who perform the best get to officiate the playoffs and Super Bowl. This is my belief.

Note that I'm not saying that the officiating WASN'T bad in the Steelers game. I believed it was an interception too. But one can go back decades and point out major miscalls even in the playoffs or Superbowl.

There should be no interception, the playclock was on 0. Refs blow another one.

Wow. They DID miss the delay of game call.

Bears play clock expired so Grossman's INT would have been called back....BAD call again by the refs.

Yeah the Bears had a full extra second after the play clock expired. But that really turns out to be a wash anyway. It didn't necassarily help Carolina. A play could go either way. That could have just as easily been a TD pass as it was an INT. But yeah, the refs are in their own little world again.

Is a delay of game reviewable?
If so, Lewis should have thrown the red flag and take a five yard penalty.

I'm not sure if it's reviewable. I highly doubt it.

I'm glad them ******* overrated Bears lost the game. All they do is talk trash anyway. Now the Panthers can laugh at the Bears face for talking **** about them all week. Their are a bunch of classless morons if you ask me.

Yes they do actually. Passing game wouldn't do too too much against Carolina's DBs. Foster's health matters.

The reason I pick Pittsburg is because their blitzes, I think, will get to Plummer and they are generally tough against the run anyway. Plummer is good off play-action, but the Steelers won't have to respect the play action so much. Plummer will have a helluva time buying time against the blitzes and the quickness of Pittsburg's defense.

well trash talking is nothing new.

The Bears were too one-dimensional even with Grossman, though. They say "defense wins championships" but the only time in recent years I believe a truly one-dimensional team won a Super Bowl was 2001. Even the 2002 Bucs had a decent passing attack.

So here's what I would love to see.

Pittsburgh making history and being the first 6th seed to be in a Super Bowl. Normally I'd cringe at something like this but they're too good to be a 6th seed. They sure as hell aren't playing like one. This gives Cowher a chance to win a Super Bowl as head coach of the Steelers to atone for the loss to the Cowboys.

Seattle wins in the NFC, appearing for the first time.

I don't see any uninteresting matchups. For once I don't have to watch the Super bowl rooting AGAINST somebody (although I'll love doing that when the Dolphins get in)

Foster's health is a big issue. Hopefully he'll be close to 100% next week. Those high ankle sprains are a ***** though.

Mike Shannahn usually handles Bill Cowher....especially in Denver. I also think Carolina had a better offense and defense than Seattle.,,,depends if Shaun Alexander can play.
