View Full Version : Good Evening...I'm NaboCane, and You're Not!

In this time of introspection, I'd like to share with all you little people the journey that began on a little, 500-pixel trading-card site in Fresno, California.

I was born - not hatched, as some would suggest - early on a cool September morning, in the doorway of a butcher shop on Calle Acosta, in La Habana Vieja, only a block from the harbor. My mother, having failed to reach the deep harbor in time, kept me.

Even then, those who could bear to look at me knew that I was born to someday be a moderator...

When I reached the tender age of 4.7, my mother told all of our relatives that she was going to flee the island and its brutal repression, and fly to the land of opportunity - Miami, Florida. The opportunity being that of finding my father, or as she called him, "that fly-ridden sack of venereal diseases," in that tender way that she had.

So she hopped on one of the last commercial Pan American Airlines flights out of Cuba before Fidel fatefully, cruelly closed that corridor off the God-forsaken island. She hopped, yes; in a desperate, last-ditch attempt to leave me behind on the tarmac...but even then my survival instincts were strong, and I managed to crawl onto the plane anyway, undetected, into the food service area, whereupon I crawled onto a tray because it was warm. What I had not realized was that in a coincidence worthy of Ripley's, that tray was the usual Hare Krishna vegetarian tray that my mother was so fond of then. My mother was so pleased to see me when she uncovered her plate of gruel that she screamed and screamed, and tore at her hair and clothes, the spittle flying from her lips which were now turning blue.

It was on that day that my mother acquired the patch of pure white hair that ran from her forehead to the backs of her calves. That, and the slack-jawed expression that never left her from that day forth, from the paralysis on her left side.

Shortly after arriving in Miami and my father was paroled, I started school in my new country, my new city, the place where I would harm so many domestic animals thereafter. But I digress...

My school projects were a great source of pride for me, even if they were largely unappreciated by my peers and burned by my teachers. This is one that survived because I hid it under the saddle blanket of my pet cockroach Buddy; it is a self-portrait in Formica and cabbage:
http://www.finheaven.com/clear.gif

In time I grew into my new surroundings, by and large thwarting the many night raids by neighbors intent on "burning the satanic little creature at the stake." By the age of 10, I had grown to be a handsome young lad, if I do say so myself:
http://www.finheaven.com/clear.gif

We'll skip the high school years (or, as I lovingly refer to them, labor camp) for the sake of expediency, but please know that I was a well-adjusted lad with many friends. Despite what that horrible boy with the arrow permanently lodged in his cervix likes to say. I'll find him yet.

In the Autumn of my 17th year, I met the lovely girl who would change my life, Pernitia. Pernitia was the light of my life, the joy of my every waking day:
http://www.finheaven.com/clear.gif

And this is her, on the day of our wedding 2.3 years later:
http://www.finheaven.com/clear.gif
...and they say women don't change after they marry...

Of course, all journeys must end...and that of our marriage ended on Valentines Day 1994. This is the portrait my darling Pernitia commissioned of herself for the occasion:
http://www.finheaven.com/clear.gif

And I moved to Seattle, where I found my soul, and stopped hurting children and succulents, and finally found...my inner peace:
http://www.finheaven.com/clear.gif

And so it was that it came to pass, that this man stands before you here, today, with...

Honestly... I don't know, I think it is called Guitarrón (which sounds pretty self explanatory) and I think they use it as a substitute for a bass.... which would make even less sense at customs.

***All Members Please Read - Forum Changes!***
Hello Everyone!

Because the staff at FinHeaven is always looking for better ways to organize, and streamline the site, we've decided to re-structure a portion of it.
You'll notice that what was once the College| Draft Forum has now been split.
We've renamed the original forum to simply "College Football" and created a new forum called "Draft Forum". We are now in the process of moving threads around so that they are in the appropriate forums.
We've also created a new sub-forum within the General NFL forum, called "Free Agents".
We ask that you keep these forums in mind when posting, as we'd like to continue keeping the main Dolphins forum uncluttered, and pertaining to the current Dolphins team.

When posting, please keep these guidelines in mind:

Miami Dolphins - Please keeps threads related to current Dolphins players/staff etc here

College Football - Please keep threads related to current college teams/players/games here

Draft Forum - Please keep mock drafts/draft wish lists/potential draft picks, etc in here.

Free Agents - Please keep discussions about potential free agents here.

We realize that this may mean an adjustment for everyone, but we feel that in the long run it will make things easier for all of us. Not only will it make it "cleaner" and uncluttered in the main forum, but it will also make it easier to find the FA discussions, mock drafts etc...

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact the Staff either by PM or by posting in the Questions and Comments forum.

Thanks in advance for your anticipated cooperation, and we look forward to an active offseason of improving our Dolphins through free agency and the draft, and an exciting 2006 football season!
