Sammy Sosa probably will retire after rejecting an offer from the Washington Nationals (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/teams/nationals).

"It's more than likely we have seen him in a uniform for the last time," Sosa's agent, Adam Katz, said Wednesday.
The 37-year-old outfielder ranks fifth on the career home run list with 588 but batted .221 with 14 homers and 45 RBIs last year in his only season with the Baltimore Orioles (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/baseball/mlb/teams/orioles).

Washington offered Sosa a non-guaranteed contract that would have included performance bonus opportunities.

"It wasn't about the money and it wasn't about No. 600," Katz said. "It was a function of Sammy's expectation of his own performance. He didn't want to go out there and underperform like he did last year because it was just too painful for him, and it's just something he doesn't want to go through again."

Word is he might get a deal with the Yanks. Has been talking with AROD of late. The Yanks see him as a part-time DH.

He's 12 home runs short of 600. He ain't leaving those 12 home runs out there! He will play for someone at some point this year!

I agree, I do hope he signs with the Yanks because he will get those HR's hitting at a nice .220 clip..

"Corkie" Sosa and Raffie Palmiero are finishing their careers in shame, it is too bad Barry Bonds is receiving any attention at all in his chase of Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron when Barry is the biggest cheater of all. I hope none of these guys make the Hall of Fame.

The money and 600 is exactly what it's about. Sammy has been a selfish jerk since he played with the whitesox. I think it's more money than 600 hr's, if he wanted the 600 that bad he would have taken the deal from the Nationals.

Why jump at the Nationals low ball non-guarnteed offer? Someone is bound to get hurt either in spring training or early in the year and a team will be desperate for a big bat or a player. Sosa will then get GUARNTEED money then! Sosa and his agent are playing this smart

Nats were not offering him a nice contract....

He will get his 12 HRs...he isn't leaving baseball until he gets them.

Also, how is Bonds the biggest cheater?
