Add Reddick, Morrison, and Oden to the list and what are the 15 that make the final cut? My guess would be:

PG - Paul, Billups,
SG - Kobe, Wade, Reddick
SF - James, Battier, Pierce, Melo
PF - Marion, Brand, Oden
C - Miller, Howard, Stoudemire

Dukies are obvioulsy going to have an advantage, and I'd guess after the initial star picks like Kobe, Wade and James the coaches will be looking for role players and defenders. 'Melo only will get in b/c his former coach is an assistant.

I'd like to see Shawn Marion make the team. That man is dynamite.

If redick makes the team I will not watch a game. He does not deserve to even be considered. Let's get REAL great shooters if we need shooters.

They are trying to put role players on the team rather than just stars. We ned some guys who are defensive specialiosts and 3P specialists as well as the stars so the list isn't bad.

It's ok I understand your confusion. Obviously you haven't watched the guy throughout his duke career and have relied on the media to tell you how "great" he is but this "great" shooter has NEVER been top 3 in his own conference in 3P shooting, never been top 30 nationally in 3P shooting, never hit a GW shot in the final moments despite numerous OPEN looks and NEVER shows up for the NCAA Tourney.

This year is by far his best year but it's a year that CBB is very down and the ACC is very down. His 3P % is 43% which is by far his best and 43% is not great and by the way his % is sinking like it always does this time of year. His prior 3 years he never even shot 41% from 3 and in 2 of the 3 years shot LESS than 40%. is that a great shooter?

by the way he isn't among the top 100 in 3P shooting % this year:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/leaders?groupId=50&cat=3pt&sort=PCT

he is leading the ACC in 3P shooting for the 1st time ever but his % is dipping and he may not hold onto that title and there are only 3 players that have qualified to be ranked so it's not like it's that big of deal.

Let's look at his #s in the NCAA Tourney(11 career games):

-51 of 138 from the field(37%)
-24 of 87 from 3(28%)
-21 assists to 23 turnovers

This is a guy we want on our Olympic team? I always here about how JJ can be a Steve Kerr in the NBA but what people fail to realize is that Kerr shot 57% from 3 in his 1 season w/ the 3P line in college- 57%! JJ hasn't even shot 41% for a full season. He is overhyped and not a true great shooter. yes he has the record for most 3 pointers made BUT that is more a product of him shooting more 3's than anyone else.

There is an open invitation to Shaq if he feels up to it physically. KG turned them down as did Duncan. I think a large part of building the team will be Coach K deciding who hes comfortable with. There is a reason so many Duke players are on that list of 25. Sheldon Williams may be considered as well.

Rudy Gay is a better college 3P shooter than Redick and he is a 6-9" wingman.. Redick has range and hits at about 40%, which you can hardly call a deadeye shooter.. He isn't even as good a shooter as Trajan Langdon..

Gotta agree with nyjunc....

42% is a good number for 3 pt. shooting in the NBA....it is okay in college...

Reddick is a volume shooter...and would be a disaster if he was put on this team.

Enough of the Redick bashing....I understand the Carolina fan but the rest of you?? Redick has a beautiful and quick shot....if hes open 20-30 ft from the basket its not even touching the rim 80% of the time.

Bowen, Battier, etc... were brought in b/c of their ability to play defense and not demand the ball.

Is it beautiful? Absolutely, he has PERFECT form and as someone who as always been a shooter(and still is pretty good) I admire the form BUT the bottom line is he is not a great shooter. The man is about a 40% 3P shooter for his career in college. That's not a good NBA % and the line is much closer against worse competition. He makes alot b/c he takes alot, I'd rather have an efficient player than one who constantly forces bad shots.

Hes the focal point of the offense. On the Olympic team he will be at best the 8-9th option. Are you saying he cant hit an open three from international range? What percentage he has hit in college really has nothing to do with his ability to hit an open shot. If he was on the team his job would be to play 5-10 mpg and hit the open shot....I think he is very capable of doing that.

I have seen him miss time after time when open in clutch situations- to beat MD in the ACC Final 2 years ago, against UConn he missed a few wide open 3's late, at UNC last year,...

Your right he has a nice jumper, so do lots of other players. Redick is a better version of Fred Hoiberg with a worse 3P shot. Hoiberg was a better defender, rebounder, and shooter, and I would give Redick the nod in scoring and passing. I am pretty sure his offense game is NBA worthy, but overall he still has alot to desire as a player. Redick plays very little defense.

I say we no longer should put NBA players on International competition USA teams.....stick to amateur players....we keep losing to Italy, Serbia-Croatia, Lithuania because the NBA players don't care whether they win or lose as long as they keep getting the $$$ they will smile and play the fool.

Now we have a chance since we have real players. There is a nice mix of Superstars (wade, james, bryant) and role players (Josh Howard, Battier, Bowen) along with a Pass first PG in Paul(who in 3 years will be the best PG in NBA) If anything im glad players liek Tmac and Carter turned it down because its opening up roster spots for guys like Pierce and Redd who can actually shoot really good. One guy i wish was on the roster was Ray Allen, but he turned it down. I woulda liked to see Ben Wallace or Tayshaun Prince or Rip Hamilton but all of them turned it down.
