Always hated the Twinkies but really liked Kirby when he played.Didn't some freakish eye injury force him to retire early? Puckett and Hrbek(sp)were quite a punch.Best wishes to him and his family.

He will be sorely missed. I can still see his smile. He and Cal Jr. helped bring back baseball after the strike.

this is so sad. Im from MN and they just flashed it on the bottom of the TV screen here. Pucket was huge and most people dont know how great he was until they have been to MN. It made front page here just because of his stroke. It will probally be the headliner now that he died. R.I.P to the most popular and best athlete in Minnesota History!!!!

Awful news. Kirby was a thrill to watch player, he brought excitement to the game and he always looked like he was having a blast playing the game. It was too bad his career was cut short due to his eye. Eventhough he had his troubles later in his life its a shame his life was cut short. Rest in peace Kirby, thanks for the memories....

My favorite athlete of all time, he played baseball the way you'd want to see any sport played. I only hope my boys will have as good a memories of sports someday as I do of watching and listening to Kirby play when I was a kid. R.I.P. Kirby, you will be missed.

Cowherd's ego simply astonishes me. Yes, Kirby made mistakes later in life, but it's not that everyone's ignoring them, they're just simply doing what's right at a time like this, concentrating on the good stuff. Cowherd wants to talk about it, that's one thing. But he's dwelling on it long after he should have let it go...

I feel like I may have come down too hard on him, I didnt know the extent of his stroke. R.I.P. Kirby, even though you had problems you are still loved and admired by many.
