Brokeback mountain,as hollywood heads into the oscars tonight I am sincerly hoping that iut get none of the major awards and in starting this discussion I want to ask and say, what is the difference between one deviant sexual preference from another? whats the difference between gay culture and Pedophilic culture? between gay culture and Beastiality culture? Deviance is deviance plain and simple, and I for one do not applaud hollywood in its efforts to Push gay culture as something mainstream,as something normal when it is not! Id like to see a focus by hollywood on the real gay culture the turmoil it causes in families, the turmoil it causes in communities, the dangers it has created in communities via disease! its time to stop painting the gay lifestyle (http://www.srch-results.com/lm/rtl3.asp?si=77&k=gay%20lifestyle) like its the american dream or something but thats my take!

What do you think?

Why don't you ever write your own stuff in the PoFo, man? Join us.

I'm fine with BM winning awards except that it's a pretty crappy movie. Like I said in the PoFo, it's the funniest supposed drama I have seen since I watched Legends of the fall some time in the mid-90s when it came out.

I think the only reason the film was made was to stir controversy and make a quick buck... but then what isn't these days.

Homosexuality is obviously not "normal" in the traditional sense, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's wrong or immoral. That said, it's certainly not on par with bestaliaty or pedophilia assuming the sexual acts are between two consensual adults.

It's a fact that male homosexuals tend to have more sexual partners than male heterosexuals. I'm not going to judge that. It's also a fact that STDs, including HIV/AIDS, are more prevalent among male homosexuals than male heterosexuals. I'm not judging that either, though. There is definitely another side to "gay culture" that a lot of people have not been recently exposed to via the media. I think what Bama is saying is that perhaps Hollywood should spend some time focusing on the negatives of "gay culture," so to speak.

I've always been a big supporter of gay rights, but I can see where Bama is coming from (And I know that Bama is not a "gay basher" or whatever...he's a good guy). I mean, anybody who has read And the Band Played On (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/014011369X/sr=8-2/qid=1141606865/ref=pd_bbs_2/104-8549440-7868738?%5Fencoding=UTF8) and studied the early years of the AIDS epidemic knows about the negative side of "gay culture." I think it's important to stress what unsafe sex with random partners can lead to.

-------

Anyway...I haven't seen Brokeback Mountain so I have no idea if I think it's worthy of the Best Picture award. I suspect it's not going to win, though. Its director might win the Best Director award, but I suspect something else will win the Best Picture. All of this controversy reminds me of when Reds (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082979/) was nominated for a dozen Oscars. It was largely shut out, including for Best Picture, but Warren Beatty got his Oscar for Best Director. I suspect we're going to see the same thing happen tonight. Maybe it's just me, though...

Me and my girl had a discussion about this recently.I think the real question is "should a movie harboring the gay lifestyle merit an Oscar? While there is a difference between the gay lifestyle and the pedophillic one(huge difference),The gay lifestyle is starting to receive more acceptance in this country.Whether the movie deserves an Oscar (I havent seen it),Is one thing, gay people feel they need to be accepted as "normal" people and I feel thats all the Academy needed was a movie like this to show them they are.I feel like this, the movie shouldnt receive preferential treatment because the characters in the movie are gay,but because it actually deserves to win.

When there is pedophilia involved, there's a victim. Homosexuality is a way of life for some.

The difference is that gay sex is consensual...........It was rhetorical. I wasn't seeking an answer... It was more of a WTF are you talking about, that was possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard type of thing, ya know?

I would agree with most of what you said, with the exception of bama not being a "gay basher." If comparing pedophilia and bestiality to being homosexual isn't gay bashing... It's certainly right on the line.

In my anthropology class last semester we talked about the gay community in the animal kingdom. Over the last 10 years there is a lot of information coming out about gay animals, proving being homosexual is biological (don't think I have the studies anymore, I'll see if I can find them). It's not normal in the traditional sense as you said, however it's normal (IMO) in terms of being apart of life and being tolerant of someone’s lifestyle choices.

As far as BBM is concerned, it does seem (haven't seen it) like a shock value movie.
