I don't listen to much rap...but does anyone else think Kanye West is overrated? He is a decent rapper, but IMO, he isn't as good as he gets recognized for.

He's not a good rapper, he's vastly overrated but it's because it seems out of all the G-Unit lovefest, he's the only commercial conscious rapper (if you consider his songs conscious...). But as a producer, barely anyone can touch Kanye's creative genius.

Production wise Dr Dre is untouchable in my book....Hes done it over time and is still creating hot "new" music.Kanye is getting his props with all the nominations and winning grammys and such.He deserves it,but I dont think hes the best in the game.W'ell see how long he can continue to put out hot albums and produce hits for others. No one has done that better than Dre.I'll have my top 10 rappers and rap groups for you later.

I don't listen to hip hop post-1999. Hip hop was my heart, but it died a bad death thanks to the uber-plastic sensations of 50 Cent and the million and one dudes who you couldn't pick out of a crowd from being 50 cent.

2Pac, B.I.G., Nas, GZA (Liquid Swords only), Pharoahe, Rakim, Mobb Deep(pre 1995)

When Mobb Deep signed to G-Unit, a part of me died inside.

The underground is much better these days. Incredible rappers like Murs, Tonedeff, Wordsworth, MF Doom, OneBeLo, and many more.

I hope you guys didn't like Pac as a rapper, he was average on the mic but in terms of subject matter and speaking from the heart, no one was better than Pac, more of a poet than a rapper imo.

I'm not sure what you mean by poet.I think you could call every rapper a poet IMO.Thats good everybody has different input.

I'd consider Nas a street poet before a rapper, and he's still one of the greatest. I'm one of the few who does think Pac is overrated (even though I have him t5), he's definately not the goat...but you can't ignore all he accomplished. His lyrics might not be the best but he got his point across better than anyone.

Pac to me, was always more than a rapper. It was the truth behind everything he said, in and out of his music. His poetry is also very good, and reflects his lyricism.
