Does anyone play any online poker. I have been playing quite a bit and winning from time to time but I only play for very small amounts. It is fun and I have been getting better. My father-in-law plays a lot and wins between 100 and 200 bucks a month. I have been trying to talk him into playing in the bigger tourneys but he only plays in the ones that are ten bucks or less. They have one that costs 66 bucks to play in and the winner gets 2500 bucks and second gets 1500. I think they pay the top 36 or so.

We play at Jet Set Poker. You guys should come play with us!

I just finished for the night on BoDog. Im down .$80. I got outdrawn 3 times in a row heads up in the $5 Sit n Go. (K7 vs KJ pre flop) and pocket 9s vs A-7 pre flop. I finished out of the money in a $4 SnG and a $5 SnG but just about broke even with that second place finish in the $5.

I was just playing in a $50 freeroll and got tired of playing and went all-in and lost. I was about 50th out of around 360 left. It started with 1250. First place wins 10 bucks.

I wish I could get a regular game like that going on at my house. That would be fun. Do you guys play Texas Hold EM'?

Yeah Texas Hold em...and Omaha. We have dollar and two dollar ante's, and max bets of $10 a hand...some guys were betting $20 and then losing a couple hundred and getting upset and crying so we had to put in a limit.....we also ended up with about 8-9 guys playing which was about 3-4 guys too many.

People get mad too easy. Do you play Omaha or Omaha High/Low? I like to play H/L myself. Would'nt it be cool to go to the World Series and play.

We play Omaha and also Low Ball...whoever deals gets to call the game...we have some guys call some really stupid games and I usually fold if I don't get what kind of game we are playing. Like where you have to lick the back of a card and put in on your forehead so you don't know what your card is. Yeah, I think you need $10,000 to get into the big World Series game....but then you multiply that by about 7,000 people and the winner gets $7 million or more....even if you finished 100th you would be set for a long time. I like Phil Helmuth and that Jesus guy, Phil Ivey, and Jennifer Tilly. They seem to have Poker on every channel on tv now.

Licking the card and sticking it to your foreheard:sidelol: That is funny. I watched the 05 Series last night. The winner got 7.5 million and 2nd got 4.5 million. They said there was 5619 entries. I bet there will be at least
7000 this year.

I think that would be a rough way to make a living...you get a lot of beat downs. I tried be a day trader around 2000 buying and selling stocks online. You often have some big losses. But I know in Vegas there are a lot of professional gamblers who make good livings playing poker, blackjack and other stuff.

They use to have the World Series at Binions in downtown Vegas...but it was pretty small...a couple hundred people...now you have thousands. I saw the Australian win it all last year. Could you imagines winning all that....you could tell your boss to kiss your ***.

As a Job?? How did that work? Did you make a lot of money?

Well I played poker all day.. I made ok money, enough to live well on.. I had a job playing for a site (propping), and played in a ton of tourney's.. My friend that I taught to play still plays for a living, he is doing pretty well for himself.. It is not an easy or glamorous job like I thought at first, it is a grind.. One of the few jobs I could work 8 hrs and lose money at..

What does propping mean? How much money did you make? I seen a guy on TV one time that said he made $10000 a day but he was playing eight to ten hours a day. I work 12 hours a day. I would'nt mind stitting here playing poker for that long if I were even making at much as I make. Maybe even a little less but I suppose you don't win every day so........

Propping means a website or pokerroom pays players to play per hand to keep the games going.. I have to play with my own money, but as long as I can break even I will make money... All the games you will be playing in will be short handed as a prop (the don't need you at full tables), so that makes the swings large.. I was making a from 400-800 a week propping, while in school at GSU, along with numerous tourney wins north of 1k including a week where I took down 8.5k in tourneys (they good old days).. It is an impossible job though, long hours, and some really bad days.. Overall is was fun, but stick to your day job.. Poker provides no 401k, benefits, or anything like that..

I don't know man. Whatever you can think of that would help a beginners game. That's really all I am is a beginner. One thing I hate to do is bet much before the flop even with AA or KK or any of the other so called top ten starting hands. It seems like when ever I bet a lot on them three 5's or something stupid almost always beat me. What is the best way to play something like that? When you have something like that to start and someone goes all-in before the flop what do YOU do?

Asking a question such as this is an indication that poker is probably not for you.

You MUST:

Buy some poker books...frequent poker forums and ask many questions AFTER you have read up on the basics.

I recommend Sklansky's "Theory of Poker" and 'Small Stakes Holdem" by Ed Miller. Also pick up the Harrington on Holdem series if you wish to play No Limit Holdem Tournaments.

I have worked about 4 hours a week for about 2 years now as far as a "job" goes....

I haven't had a full time Job in 5 years.

But really....you sound like you have just started playing....losing is not fun...educate yourself if you wish to actually risk money at it.

Education is key to lay the foundation for any winning player.

So you play poker for a living? What kind of money do you make at it?

As far as the basics go I think I have those down or at least some of them. I guess maybe you are talking about when to bet and when not to bet. I am unsure of that from time to time. Anyway anything you have to offer I would love to hear but I will start doing some reading as you say. Do you know of any good sites to check out?

As far as my living...I make anywhere from 25 to 45k a year depending on the year (from poker alone)....but I don't play as much as most of the online faithful do.

What do you guys think about the theory that online poker is rigged. I've heard that there are certain patterns that the software applies to each player, logarithms? And if you can figure out those patterns then you can win. I have a book a guy wrote about that very topic, it's very interesting...he basically says if you write down every hand you get and whether you fold or not find out if you would have won had you stayed in (look at hand history). Eventually you will see a pattern if you stay at a table long enough and there is the same # of players the whole time. Theres a whole lot more to it, it's very in depth.

Is there anything to that theory? I don't know what to think, it does make you wonder though when you get some ridiculous bad beats online.

I get bad beats online AND offline. No, I dont buy into that theory because it would be foolish for online poker sites to ruin a very good legitimate business by doing something like that.

What would a site have to gain by doing that?

The sites are not rigged....

Why would they throw away MILLIONS in rake just to screw a few people out of their stake....

They would be better served if everybody won equally....

As we all know...that is not the case...there are winners and losers...

So I went to two plus two but they were using lots of terms that did'nt make sense to me and it seemed to me everything is all jumbed up but it is a great place to ask questions.

Check this site out. I did some looking around and found it. It has lots of good info and explains everything pretty simple.
