What would you think of a longer NFL season? compared to the 17 weeks of todays season. Maybe add 2 or 3 weeks.

As a fan I'd love it, but it would be so much tougher for players to stay healthy and I fear it would severely shorten most players careers.

What if we just compromised the complexity, integrity, and tradition of the game as well?

That is true unless they did it where maybe there was a break of say 2 weeks somewhere maybe even twice... :D Shorten the preseason to 2 games and put a 2 week space at the end of the preseason then another one after week 10 (the new halfway point)...

Yeah!! Make it a twenty game schedule!! :dolphins:

as a fan i agree it would be great to watch more football but it would never happen..i just think some of us go crazy when no football is on (including myself) that we make up the thought of a longer season which if it were introduced to the players most would probably have a heart attack playing that long of a season...also most teams that are eliminated from playoff contention are officially eliminated around weeks 12-14 so making the season longer could negatively effect those teams and thier income..glad though that we shouldnt have to worry about something like that this year!

Too many games is what has ruined pro baseball, basketball, and practically every american sport other than football. When you add more games, it just makes each game worth less and less. Don't mess with it!

I think a 20 week season with 2 bye weeks per team would be cool.

yeah...........because going from 14 to 16 games did all of that. :shakeno:

While I love the idea of seeing the Dolphins more each year, I think that everyone else (at least those who didn't completely overreact to the idea) are right....it's probably best just left as it is.

Of coarse, as Nick Saban said....hopefully 2005 was the last 16-game season for the Dolphins!!!! :dolphins:

Before we prolong football, lets shorten a few things like baseball down to about 60 games maybe even 40 baseball blows

for starters no, records would mean nothing aka more backs over 1000 yards stats would take a few years to figure out the new standards/benchmarks in terms of yardage,

I think it's perfect the way it is now. Only thing I would do is shorten the pre-season.

All of the above. (Including the "shorten baseball" part)

I think the preseason should be shortened by 2 weeks and add them to the regular season...That's doable and changes none of the complexity, integrity, and tradition of the game, Unless of course you love losing players in a preseason game for the entire season for absolutly nothing..:rolleyes2

Good point.
Also, I would be happy seeing baseball go down to 0 games. I would probably watch it then:lol:

the 16 game season has not been around very long
i dont see how adding games would effect tradition

They have talked about it.I was just saying they would never make it longer if anything they would cut 2 games going back to a 15 week year and 14 games for each season.

I would like to see more games, but my concern is for records being broken by possibly lesser talented players.

I think it is fine.

Plus, we shouldn't cut preseason short either. That robs the players of desperately needed practice and evaluation time, and it screws up the whole point of having a preseason when you have to trim your preseason roster in half after just one game.

Alex44

Starters hardly play pre-season thats why you cant just subtract 2 games and add them to the season

It would still have a negative effect on starters

Adam makes a good point here. In fact Nick spoke of it. He said Ronnie was late getting into camp and his breakout game was at exactly the same spot time wise as a full preseason. Nick said something to the efffect that preseason was "just right" for preparing a player.

yea 2 week byes and shorten the preseason. Then a longer season is realistic. But then the chances of a longer post season decrease i think

Amen to that. Seriously, how do you even motivate your team before a game when you play 162 of them.

"Ok, fellas we lost our first game, that's ok, we only have 161 to make up for it"...

80 games seems fair enough.

I wouldn't mind an 18 week schedule, but keep 16 total games per team. It would give the fans an extra week of football and would help the players. I can't watch every game each week, so why not spread it out a little?

id love to see 2 two weeks of pre-season taken away and added to the regular season and two teams added to the playoffs per conference, that would be perfect.

can ya 'splain that for me please...this is why i want 2 more teams in the playoff
1 on each side

i think 14 teams is a great idea.

I think this will help insure that the best team in the NFL has their chance.

ex. Steelers last year were the 6th seed and they won it all!!!
so whats to say tht the hottest team in football at the end of last year (dolphins) wouldnt have made a push being the 7th seed

any team can be beat on any given day!!!!!!

this then allows only the best AFC and the best NFC to have a bye
not two teams on each side

agree??

but i dont agree with 2 less preseason games

the season is long enough
i mean i wish that football was year round but the reality is that longer seasons mean more injuries and the games will mean less and less
thats why i love college football
the entire season means something
keep it the way it is

I would really like this idea...........I don't see who wouldn't like this idea.

No difference for the owners.

Players and coaches get an extra week of rest during the year.

Fans get an extra week of NFL football. Now fans who only care about watching their team might not be excited for the idea, but it's not like they don't still see 16 games. But fans that watch every game, would get a whole other week of football.

TV would also benefit from the addition of televised games.

It's a win-win!!!
