The most recent issue of PSM claims to have inside info of the launch details of the PS3. Here's what is said:

The PlayStation 3 is set to launch in early November, just in time for the post-Thanksgiving shopping frenzy, simultaneously with its online service. The asking price? $399 for US, €322 for Europe, and ¥45,965 in Japan.

Sounds like a good freakin' deal!

Gamefront.de says something similar.

Through the magic of babelfish it says...

New details to the PlayStation3
26.04.06 - The American ' PlayStation of magazines ' (PSM) published further information in its newest expenditure to the PlayStation3 (thanks at ZBOX).

- the world-wide introduction on the market of the PS3 is to take place in the first November half.

- the price is to lie in opinion of the magazine with USD 399 (euro 322/Yen 45,965).

- one delivers the 60 GB non removable disk as standard with each console.

- starting titles and the final CONTROLLER are shown to the E3.

- PSone and PS2-Spiele are represented in 720p, 1080i and 1080p.

Worldwide launch in first 2 weeks of November
PSM thinks it'll be $399 ("in opinion")
60 GB built-in hard drive standard
Launch software (?) and launch controller shown
PS1 and PS2 games in HD (?)

Anyway, if they do come in at $399 in November, expect MASSIVE shortages everywhere.

That being said, with Sony, I usually take the "I'll believe it when I see it" approach.

IMO 399 is about right. They won't price it too high as they know by then the XBox 360 will be lower in price and they will want a chance to compete. November sounds good too...I won't but Madden on PS2 until November if that's the case.

Sounds like Pain is getting a PS3 .Btw I heard Microsoft will lower the 360 100 bucks when PS3 comes out.I don't believe it because microsoft is pretty greedy.

What was it dated? There were a few articles a couple weeks ago that were claiming that.

The fact that they are greedy is why they will lower the price, its all about how much of the market they can get.

Right now (and probly for a while) Oblivion is the flagship RPG for the 360 (and also the PC). You take that away from the 360 and again Microsofts RPG pickens will be thin.

And to think people were runnin around here sayin $600+, $500+, $700+ all sorts of insane prices. :shakeno:

Sony is in it to win it. And this is a game console first and cuttind edge Blu-Ray technology 2nd. It is not in reverse, they are properly focused on competing in the game market and not in the movie market with the PS3. Finally a logical post on price speculation, thank you.

PSM, the same mag that claimed back in 2000 that the PS2 having FOUR controller ports, "Was a no brainer"? :)

They are guessing about the price of the PS3, it's just that most want to believe it will be $400 instead of $500 or more. I think this is one more tactic to get people to hold off buying an Xbox 360.

Anyway, I see a $499 price on the PS3, and even then Sony must be losing over $200 per system. The built-in 60GB hard drive is a good idea though. Big enough for most gamers, cheaper than the detachable ones, and every system will have one so developer support for it is a given.

I'd still be guessing closer to $600 for the PS3, but Sony is cutting corners here and there. You guys have heard that Sony will feature BC through emulation, not a PS2 chipset included in the PS3, right? Another cost cutting feature, but don't expect 100% of the old games to work or be supported.

I did read about the BC emulation, but I also read that they have a helluva lot more game supported that Microsoft does.

that's one thing that irritates me about the 360, I got 3 or 4 games on xbox that I want to play, but I'm not going to get it out and hook it up...well that and it's broke so it really doesn't play anything.
