http://theshadowlands.net/jd.htm

The Jersey Devil, the supposed mythical creature of the New Jersey Pinelands, has haunted New Jersey and the surrounding areas for the past 260 years. This entity has been seen by over 2,000 witnesses over this period. It has terrorized towns and caused factories and schools to close down, yet many people believe that the Jersey Devil is a legend, a mythical beast, that originated from the folklore of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Others disagree with this point of view. The following text will show there is evidence to support the existence of an animal or supernatural bring known as the Jersey Devil. The evidence consists of the stories of the Jersey Devil's origin, the sightings of it, and finally, the theories on it. There are many different versions of the birth of the Jersey Devil. One of the most popular legends says a Mrs. Shrouds of Leeds Point, NJ made a wish that if she ever had another child, she want it to be a devil. Her next child was born misshapen and deformed. She sheltered it in the house, so the curious couldn't see him. On stormy night, the child flapped it's arms, which turned into wings, and escaped out the chimney and was never seen by the family again. A Mrs. Bowen of Leeds point said, "The Jersey Devil was born in the Shrouds house at Leeds Point." 1 Another story that also placed the birth at Leeds Point said that a young girl fell in love with a British soldier during the Revolutionary War. The people of Leeds Point cursed her. When she gave birth, she had a devil. Some people believe the birth of the devil was punishment for the mistreatment of a minister by the Leeds folk.

Aliens are the only thing I believe in. Everything else I need concrete proof to believe.

The only reason I believe that other intelligent life forms exist is that there are billions upon billions of other planets, solar systems, and galaxies out there. The numbers are far too great for humans to be the only intelligent life forms in the universe. The problem is that the universe is so large the chances that we come in contact with "E.T." is very miniscule.

Ok I have no idea what go-gurt is but it sounds scary as hell. If it is a food then maybe George Carlins take on Yogurt may apply. He said he never eats anything that sounds like its coming back up. :)

I saw a UFO when I was a kid and have not seen anything yet that can make me believe it wasn't ET in origin.

I have never seen a ghost but being a Christian I believe in a soul so maybe...

Bigfoot and Nessy? Bigfoot is running out of room to hide but it would be a neat discovery I think. Nessy is a big maybe. Possibly a surviving cousin to the plesiosaur or something. A lot easier to hide in a deep black lake than in whats left of our forrests. Although many of the Nessy films have been proven to be hoaxs. Again would be a neat discovery.

Ghosts - Most definately, as I have seen them and experienced other "unexplainable/supernatural things.

Aliens - Yes, but not neccessarily the "little green/grey men with the oval heads and huge black eyes", I just believe there is no possible way we can be the only lifeforms in the universe.

Werewolves - Nope

Vampires - Only the ones that work at "Hot Topic"

Chupacabra - Eh, undecided. There's lots of weird evidence, yet the one thing that gets me is nobody had ever photographed it or found a dead one.

Yeti/Bigfoot/Sasquach - Same as Chupacabra (that video of the walking one in the woods looked SO fake)

Loch Ness - Nope, we found the friggin Titanic miles down in the middle of the ATLANTIC OCEAN, plus TONS and TONS of other wrecks in the oceans, yet you have this lake, that is a puddle in comparison to the open ocean, and haven't found a single thing? That's a pretty clear indication nothing's there.

Mabearpigs - Never heard of them

God/Angels - Nope

frankly i don't see how other lifeforms could possibly exist outside of this planet. but if they did, they're not really supernatural, i guess....along with werewolves, vampires, bigfoot, etc...those are all realistic at least. i don't see anything realistic at all with ghosts. or angels, etc.

there's a guy near here that takes you on a "Jersey Devil hunting tour"
It really is pretty spooky to roam around in the Pine Barrens at night anyway.
It's an eerie area anyway after dusk...add to that the "mystique" of the Devil, and it's pretty cool.

Looks AWESOME Wharf. I'm one of those people who loves to explore spooky/"haunted" places, and the Pine Barrons look PERFECT, even without the Jersey Devil myth, that just adds to it big time.

One time when I was in high school (back in Rhode Island) some friends and I were exploring the woods at night. Well, somehow we got turned around and could not, for the life of us, find our way out. We kept walking and all the sudden this HUGE dark shape appeared. Our flashlight battery was pretty much dead, it was casting that really soft, orangy "hey my friggin' batteries are almost dead and you should've checked that before exploring the scary woods with only ONE flashlight at night" light. This was also back in the day when 99% of the cellphones had the green screens, so it's not like we had the phones of today where the screen is so bright you could use it to guide a Jet onto an aircraft carrier.

We had no idea what it was but we heard a huge cracking sound. The big shape didn't move though, just the sound of something big running away from it. So we decide to go closer and right there, in the middle of the friggin woods, was a GIANT TEEPEE (yes, like the indians)! It was cool for the first 9 seconds, til we heard some really weird high pitched scream, if it was an animal it was like nothing I've ever heard. Then we got to thinking, wait a second, there ARE no indians here, so WTF is this? It was kinda freaky and NONE of us wanted to look inside as there was a REALLY bad smell coming from it. We looked around outside of it though, and there was nothing that would show us it was just some campground. No items, no trash, not even a fire pit, or signs of a fire. THere was just a huge teepee with a very bad smell in the middle of the woods we were lost in with a dying flashlight.

Well, then we heard a loud POP from inside the teepee. I sounded almost like a gun, but not quite as loud, but we all jumped anyway. My friend Chris decided we need to look inside. I agreed, our friend's Ryan and Carl however, did not. They wantd to just get the hell out of there. Well, Chris was like, alright, lets just go, but now I wanted to see what the hell was in the teepee. I walked over toward the flap that was the entrance and Ryan and Carl were over near a HUGE tree facing the other way, trying to see if ANYTHING looked familiar. Chris was near them too but started to come over toward me when I was lifting the flap. The smell was WRETCHED, I can't even describe it. I've never smelled decaying body so I can't say that's what it was, but if I had to guess, that's be spot on. Anyway., so I'm lifting the flap, which is surprisingly heavy, and then I'm going to look in when Chris steps on a branh, scares the **** out of me, and I drop the flap. After my heart stops racing I lift again to look. When I do, one of THE scariest (maybe even the #1 scariest) things of my life happened. I pull up the flap (I'm hunched over as the flap is from the ground to about chest level) and I peak in and see this dark shape, I don't wanna say a human figure, because it wasn't, but it was about as big as one. The SECOND I stick my head in the shadow like flies forward, without a single sound. I THREW the flap down and fell backwards screaming "oh **** OH **** OH ****" and I slipped on the leaves trying to get up and I just friggin' RAN, had to be (or at least felt like) for a solid mile, lol.

Then I stopped because I FINALLY realized that none of my friends were with me. I turned and....NOTHING. I was comlpletey alone, I couldn't hear them yelling or anything. I could barely see, as I didn't have the flashlight (Chris did), so I only had VERY faint moonlight. I started to freak out. Then I tried yelling there names, and not only was there no response, but, and this is very odd, there was no echo. It was odd because earlier, when we were horsing around (before being lost) and then later on when we were lost and Carl screamed the F word, there was an echo, and we were in denser forest than I was at that point (I should also point out that it was late fall, and all the trees were bare).

Well, now I'm like "ok, WTF do I do now?" I decided walking back the way I ran seemed like my best bet, except I couldn't remember which way I ran from, since I had turned all around looking for everyone. My celly was in the car, Ryan ws the ONLY friend who brought his, so that was a no go. Then I started seeing big black shadows out of the corner of my eye. Not like tres swaying in the brees shadows (there wasn't a breeze anyway) but huge shadows, like 6 foot shadows, but they weren't in the shape of humans or animals or anything, they were just kinda like a big, 6 foot tall, well, I don't even know how to describe it, they were slender, like they COULD be humans, they just didn;t have limbs or anything, just like the one in the teepee. So I guess they'd be like a rectangle-ovalish shape, but they weren't set, it was kind of like smoke. Anyway, so I keep seeing these shadows whizz by in the corner of my eyes, so now I'm like "OK Jason, its just your mind playing tircks on you, just relax and go find the guys" so I start walking, and I hear the "pop" noise again, like it was RIGHT behind me, I spun around with a fist up (no clue what I was going to do to whatever was behind me, lol) but there was nothing. Then that SUPER bad smell came again. Now I am COMPLETELY freaking out, I'm seeing all sorts of BIG shadows darting everywhere out of the corners of my eyes, and I'm selling the Teepee again, except I',m far from teh teepee.

Well, this post is HUGE already, and that's pretty much all that happened, so to make a long ending short, I just walked back the way I THOUGH I came, with my head down looking at my feet (still smelling the smell and seeing the shadows) until I got to this little creek, and by little I mean like 6" across, lol. I stepped over, heard the pop again, freaked out, but the smell was gone, and so where the shadows. I just kept walking and yelling for my friends (*sidenote*, there was an echo again.........)til I heard a faint yell back. It sounded like it came from my left, so I walked that way and, like 5 minutes later, found them. It took us another hour and 20 minutes to find our way out. We talked about what happened, and apparently Chris saw exactly what I did, over my shoulder in the teepee, and then when I took off they ran after me and ryan and carl said they thought they saw shadows zooming past them in the direction I was going.

Like I said, scariest thing that ever happened to me, and I've had a BUNCH of scary experiences. We all decided one day to go back and try to find the teepee and take pics of it, in the daytime of course. We took chalk and marked trees we went by so we didn't get lost. WE roamed for hours and never found the teepee, but then again the place is huge and we were kind of scared to go WAY way in again, for fear not only that we'd get lost again, but probably that we WOULD find the teepee and it's unexplainable shadows and wretched smell again. It should be noted that, oddly, when we followed our chalk trees back out of the forest, we came out 9 minutes down the road from where we started . We know this because there was an electricity substation rght where we decided to enter (figuring that's a pretty good landmark sinc it was the ONLY discernable object for miles) and when we came out it was off to our left. We timed the walk back, 9 minutes. The thing is, we followed the trees we marked on the way in right back out. We know they were OUR marks because we had orange chalk and Chris was putting his initals on each tree we marked. Very very odd, and I haven't been back since, none of us have. I've got a trip home in August though, I'm considering going again, it intrigues me.

*EDIT* WOW, I'm sorry, I didn't realize I wrote THAT much!!!!

The only difference I believe is that Bigfoot has mainly been reported in Northern California, Oregon, Washington state, and British Columbia....the Yeti is also called the Abominal Snowman, and has mainly been reported in the Himilayas. Chupulcabra, should not be confused with Chalumpas (which I think are still on the menu at Taco Bell??).

LOL, I had no idea it was THAT long til I hit submit and it filled my screen. I just started typing the story and then was like "huh, I bet this is kinda long, better end it ASAP" so I meant to just type "I found em and thats that" or somethign along those lines, lol, but I had a little bit more to tell, so it ended up being two more paragraphs
