Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, recovering from a head injury caused by a fall last month in Fiji, has not suffered brain damage, a spokeswoman for the band said on Tuesday.

The Stones' New York-based publicist, Fran Curtis, issued a statement denying a report in the New Zealand Herald that Richards, 62, had undergone two surgeries and that doctors were concerned about brain damage.

"Keith Richards did not undergo a second operation. The first and only operation was done on Monday, May 8, and was 100 percent successful," the band's statement said. "There was no brain damage. He continues to improve as expected."

The European leg of the band's "A Bigger Bang" world tour would begin in June, the statement said.

The hard-living Richards, a founding member and mainstay of the band with lead singer Mick Jagger since the Stones formed in the early 1960s, has been in Auckland, New Zealand, under medical observation and treatment since taking a fall while on vacation in the island resort of Fiji in late April.

Last week, a spokeswoman for the band said Richards had suffered only a mild concussion and would not need surgery.

People act like the Stones are like 95...Richards is only 62, man! People routinely live to 80, 90 today. Especially people who do everything wrong, like Richards.

Besides that boy ain't going down from brain damage; when it comes time for him, he'll set a vintage Jaguar on fire and drive it off a high cliff or something like that.

Besides how could anyone tell if he is brain damaged? Certainly not by his speech. :D

The original report had him, a 65 year-old man, falling out of a palm tree while trying to get a coconut.

As it happened, he had it made in the shade, enjoying the flowers, high tides and green grass, taking a break from his dirty work on the island of Fiji. He had been invited to a beggar's banquet by some girls, where everyone was to bring something to eat. Looking up, he saw the coconuts and thought they would be a great thing to take to the banquet. He asked the waiter where he could get some and the waiter simply pointed up and said, "Got LIVE if you want it."

Since he already had sticky fingers from his pina colada, (even though he had tried unsuccesfully to clean them before with about forty licks) he started up the tree. Reaching the top, he kicked the coconut loose and lost his grip.
As the coconut fell it made a big hit, but when Richard's landed it made a bigger bang.

There was no security there but someone called the medics. When the ambulance arrived and they realized who it was, it became like a rock and roll circus as they began their emotional rescue of the famous man. After getting the growing crowd to jump back, they worked on him. All he was heard to say was, "Let it bleed".

In the aftermath, it appears he'll be okay, just a little black and blue. When asked if he would regret missing the tour, he simply said, "It's Only Rock and Roll".

Exactly...that's what drugs and liquor will do to you. Hope he recovers though and stays out of trees.

Not only did he fall out of a tree, but after that he got on a jet ski and crashed it. I think he got another concussion from the wreck.

The guy is a sherman tank when it comes to drugs. But that obviously doesn't mean they haven't destroyed his ability to think clearly.

If Richards had brain damage, it may actually make him smarter. Couldn't hurt.
