My best advice: tell them your computer broke and you're not going to buy a replacement.

I had to try 3 times to cancel my account, and they still sent me a bill almost half a year later telling me I owed them $90. They finally corrected it, but it took a while. Bastids

Thats actually what I did, last year, spent some time in the hospital, so I just signed up for the free month of dial up. then of course they wanted me to keep using it, and I just told them I had to send in my computer and wouldn't know when it would be done.... I hate crapy aol

This of course is assuming the credibility of that phone conversation is legit.

The "whether you like it or not" part is all about what the phone guy has to say in order to not get in trouble if he is being monitored. Of course, what he says in order to get it out is nearly as bad. Some call centers really don't care how polite their employees are, though.
