Again I ask... why are these soldiers actually wearing these masks?

_South of Baghdad, the 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry, came under sniper fire and saw something truly chilling, according to CNN's Walter Rogers: upward of 20 dead Iraqi troops wearing gas masks. Rogers, attached to the unit, gave no indication that chemical weapons had been used.

This scares the h@ll out of me:

The commanding general of the 101st, General David Petraeus, gave the order at 9:00 pm (1800 GMT) that soldiers in the division would be able to take off their anti-chemical and biological suits as of Friday morning

I hope to God that the Iraqi's aren't waiting for that to happen before using them....

It would be interesting to see if such a General existed.

This is exactly why I wish the news media would just report news and not spin it or make it up. Both of our news stories conflict each other so one of them has to be wrong. The worst case is one the stories is made up.

It's easy to find non-classified info on military units, if you know where to look...

Most of the units have their own websites these days ;)

For some reason, I was thinking information like that was T.S. and not available to the public.

Right now the military must have very good intelligence that the threat from chemical weapons is non-existent... or they are trying a ruse to get the Iraqi's to deploy the chemical weapons.

No... Command structure is not classified... now try to find out where that guy is right now... and you're going to hit a brick wall....

as for a ruse? I doubt the US military really wants Iraq to use them, just to be able to say "I told you so"... too risky... no chemical suit is 100% guaranteed.... and if it's a Bio attack, in a lot of cases, the suit won't help at all....
