View Full Version : Talladega Nights doesn't dissapoint

Just got back from a private screening of "Talladega Nights, THe ballad of Ricky Bobby" for a radio station here in Fort Lauderdale.

If you're a Will Ferrell fan this movie will not dissapoint you.

Sure there are some points that are flat out stupid but that's a given with these types of movies. It's not on the same level as Anchor Man but that movie is destined to become a comedy classic IMO.

Overall, I thought it was hysterical and well worth seeing.
Again, if you like Will Ferrell's comedy you'll like it.

As a bonus our own Don Shula gets a positive mention in the flick also. That's enough to love it right there alone right?

Just thought I'd share since comedies from the Saturday Night Live cast pool can either be hysterical or downright horrible.

I just have never really found Will Ferrell to be funny. He just doesn't do anything for me...just like David Letterman....I don't get the appeal????

It's 10 bucks where you are? Man over here its $12.50.

But I think this movie is going to be great, I don't mind dropping the money.

Wow, it is $5 here before 5 pm, and I think $7 afterwards. I would not be paying $10 or $12.50 either. You won't have any money for popcorn or a coke.

I saw Lady in the Water this afternoon...it was ok.

Will Ferrell is an over the top clown whom occasionally hits his mark, but usually borders on idiocy. Lots of potential, not a lot of talent.

Some of his stuff makes me laugh (the "Goulet" sketch on SNL), but often times I wonder why he made it so big when more deserving comedic actors are struggling.

Wasn't trying to talk anyone into liking Will Ferrell, just passing along my take on the flick to those that do.

Well yes it is 5 bucks before 5 PM and on Tuesdays its 7.50. The whole movie thing is nuts. 7 to 12 bucks for 1 ticket, 4 dollars for pop corn, 3.50 for candy, 3 dollars for a soda. Just insane prices.

Understood.

I admit to liking Anchorman the first time, but grew more and more sick of it each time I watched it (and my damn friends INSISTED on watching it about 900 times. It got to the point where if they told me in advance we'd be watching it, I'd purposefully not hang out with them.)

Truthfully, though, I hated Steve Carell in that movie, and I think he's the king of unfunny lately. I liked him on Daily Show, but he was awful in Anchorman, he's really stupid on the inferior US import of The Office, and...I don't even wanna see 40 year old virgin.

anywho tho I doubt I'll see Talladega, but interested to see what others say when it does come out

Good point. Plus comedies are hit or miss in my opinion.

I agree with you there.
There are some movies you just can't see and get the full effect with rentals. Comedies are what they are and the effects aren't going to change them.

This screening was free, you can't turn down free.

With Will Ferrell movies, sometimes I'll spring for the $3.99 for the PPV showing. Sometimes.

But if I like it, I make up for it by buying the DVD.

Hey it's better than with Ben Stiller movies...I'll catch part of them on HBO or something if they happen to be on when I'm flippin'...but no way I'll pay to see another Mystery Men. No way, ever again.

I think calling Will Ferrell an "actor" does a great disservice to the word.

I love Will Ferell, but I wouldnt pay 10.50-12.50 for any movies. The theatre I go to here has 7.00 student discount tickets that we use. Theatre isnt as good as some of the others here, but its enjoyable all the same

oh my GOD that was the worst thing i've ever seen. EVERYone in the theater was pissed off for wasting money on that piece of crap. there were long gaps of silence while the film was doing something that was supposed to be funny? jesus. really painful to sit through. the guy we went with was a huge anchorman and old school fan and he said this sucked. really unfunny.

I will likely see it at the one drive-in along with whatever movie they pair up with it in 2 or 3 weeks. Its 8 dollars for a car load so thats really the way to go. Will Ferrel is alright, but he is really better off when he is with other comediens such as Jim Carrey.
