CLERMONT, Fla. -- An Internet virus that apparently fried a computer network in Clermont, Fla., has prompted an investigation into improper usage of city computers by on-duty firefighters and paramedics, according to a Local 6 News report.

Firefighters and paramedics in Clermont are accused of using computers to view pornography, gamble and peruse women on the social Web site mySpace.com.

A source told Local 6 News that an investigation found that one of the city's fire stations was a gateway for the virus. The virus apparently shut down the system for days and deleted countless files.

"One source tells us that the improper Internet usage resulted in a virus that fried the city's computer network," Local 6 reporter Todd Jurkowski said.

they should have had better virus protection on their computers.

firefighters, EMS, ect... have a lot of down time waiting for a call. they watch movies, play X-Box, sleep, surf the net... It happens.

A friend sent me a link one day in an e-mail. It was supposed to be a pic of this chick he knows. Turns out it was a link to an asian porn site. I closed it out when i realized but 15 min. later the computer guy called saying i had a virus on my computer. they took it off, no big deal.

Some people dont realize that you can get a virus just by going to a site. you dont have to download anything. Its not just porn sites either. a week before my incident my coworker got a virus from kellybluebook.

If the computer system is that important, it should have a good virus protection software and support.

I was just living in Clermont (I moved back to Miami last week), this doesn't surprise me. It's a SMALL town and there's nothing to do. They need SOME excitement!

There isnt always a fire to put out. They risk their lives everyday, but they probably have a lot of downtime to just screw around and have fun

Firefighters probably shouldn't be looking at porn or gambling while on duty.

I have zero (as in none as in nil as in nada) problem with them surfing around the Internet other than that, though. If they want to go to myspace, fine. If they want to watch the Mentos and Diet Coke video 100 times, fine. If they want to talk about the Dolphins on FinHeaven.com, I can think of no better use of time.

The whole 2 months I was living in Clermont, I never saw a fire...or a fire truck for that matter. Now I know why
