It looks like Microsoft is planning to crash Sony's PS3 launch party by dropping the price of the Xbox 360 this coming Christmas. A source close to Microsoft says consumers can expect a price drop of almost $100.

I think Microsoft came out about 2 or 3 weeks ago and said that this was all untrue. They plan to add more to the 360 instead of lowering the price (adding a game, an extra controller and XBL service packaged with it).

Here's one of the articles:

I've said for a while that the only reason I'd buy a 360 is if it dropped $100. The more I think of it, Halo 3 might be another reason. I hope they do reduce the price...on my grad student income, it's too steep.

I've heard their ether launching Halo 3 when the PS3 comes out or is going to add some new stuff on live. I've also heard of a $50 and $25 price drop. I will be wating inline a week early for the PS3 if the preorders start selling as high as they did for the 360.

Yes, that was announced weeks ago. The premium package will be $600, and a lower one will be $500.

If they were to package the current 360 with an extra controller and 2 games(say Saints Row and Madden) for the same $400 pricetag, I'd probably have to bite the bullet and get it.

I hope there is a price drop.

I almost waited to get a 360, but gamestop had a deal going where you got $80 credit towards a 360 if you traded in your xbox. I only had payed $120 for my xobox anywas, so it wasn't much of a loss, and it's not like I was going to get more than $80 for it anytime soon. After owning a 360 for a few months, I have to say it is even worth the $400.

Maybe to some people it is but I bought a new gaming PC back in January and the 360 just doesnt offer me enough games yet for me to even consider buying one. The 360 is just a mini gaming pc without web features anyhow, but I have a feeling once Microsoft gets a good number of titles out there I wont be able to stay away for long.

2 of the big games for 360 right now(Oblivion and GRAW), I have for the PC already. Resident Evil 5 and Halo 3 both have my attention though I have to admit.

That makes sense. I've just never been a PC gamer, so from my standpoint, it is worth the $400. To each his own though.

If you dont FPS with a mouse and keyboard you dont FPS :D

I find it quite comical when playing console based shooters.(I was also an Admiral in Socom3 so Im not saying I suck at them) I started playing Counter-Strike during Beta 2.0 many years back and have been into PC games ever since. Consoles are fun dont get me wrong, they just fail to deliver on the FPS titles in the way they do on PCs.

Madden, Grand Theft Auto, Gran Turismo, and Resident Evil and games as such that shine on consoles are what get me to buy their system. Without the games, no console will ever take my money.

As you said, to each his own. I do plan on buying a 360 in time. Just only when they get the right games out. Im quite happy at the moment playing GRAW(singleplayer) and Oblivion on my PC and I didnt have to spend a dollar on those 2 games. Gotta love .ISO files

battlefield 1942 is my favorite FPS because its not just an FPS because you can roll tanks, fly planes, use battleships, destroyers, submarines, and other mounted guns!
