In what will no doubt come as a bitter blow to Sony, Microsoft has announced that both FIFA 2007 and Pro Evolution Soccer 6 will be exclusive to Xbox (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=19231#) 360 for at least a year.

The announcement came during the company's conference at the Leipzig Games Convention, with Euro boss Chris Lewis telling the audience: "Xbox 360 owns football."

Microsoft decided to try and take the Worlds most popular sport in their hands. It's a pretty ballsy move that will no doubt spark some kind of retaliation from Sony. It might get ugly.

I don't really play soccer games so it won;t really effect me either way. What do you guys think?

Interesting, it will definitely effect the european market the most. Not that big a move IMO. Japan is where MS needs to improve sales. Winning Eleven may still be cross platform, which is arguably the top soccer game. I'd be more worried about what Sony does in retaliation.

I can see it now... Madden 08 - PS3 exclusive

When Sony bites back, they try to bite off limbs.

If Madden ever went exclusive, that would definitely hurt one side.

Hey Motion, here's what I'm confused about. Konami makes both Winning Eleven and Pro Evolution soccer. They make 2 soccer titles? Makes no sense. I'm lookin up info on it now to clarify.

You know anything about this?

I was just being dumb... That would be dumb move for EA to take away half of their sales market.

eh, I don't play soccer games either so it doesn't bother me. I actually wish EA would trim some fat and only concentrate on making a few really good games instead of crappy games in every sport

Winning Eleven is the Japanese version of Pro Evolution basically. Pro Evolution is sold around the world while Winning Eleven is in Japan.

If Pro Evolution is Xbox360 only then so will Winning Eleven I'd imagine.
This is a very ballsy move by Microsoft and it could very well hit the European figures for the PS3 as those are 2 of the most popular console titles on the market over here. Only one that I can think of that is bigger is GTA.

Pro Evolution IS Winning Eleven?!? This is bigger than I thought. I thought Sony might still get Winning Eleven... Holy crap.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Winning Eleven is the Japanese version of Pro Evolution. Winning Eleven came along first, then International Superstar Soccer (ISS) was the English version which then morphed into Pro Evolution.

WTF!?!?!?! I love Soccer. And I always buy the video games. I prefer playing my games on PS2 because that is where more people in my neighborhood play their soccer video games and I play online. This can't be true...because I'd be without a Soccer game for a year because I don't like playing on the XBOX. WTF! :fire:

And Yes WE is PES...WE is the one sold in the U.S.

They probably just didn't post it on the site yet. I just don't see GI lying about something like that. It's on an Xbox site too... I usually don't post news from a site dedicated to one single console though.. Y'know, biased crap.

Yea but the question is, is it a Microsoft only thing or is it a not close enough to being done on the PS3 yet thing?

The way the article reads explains it as a contract to keep the 2 next gen soccer games on 360 until 2008. After that, I believe the agreement expires. Will Microsoft have some sort of renewal process at the time? I don't know.

The Mor, I don't understand how you do those roster things in NCAA. I don't own NCAA but there are Soccer games etc. where guys make patches and stuff just like that, that you can download and put it into your game but I on't understand/know how to do that. If you could ever tell me how to do it Step by step, I'd appreciate it. You could AIM or write me a PM or write it as a post whenever you have a free minute. Thanks.

Most of the media reports are now saying 12 months since EA UK and EA US banged heads (the US EA didn't know jack about it till it was announced).

It's now being clarified that the deals aren't 12 months. In fact titles are being made for all current gen, and will be released when the 360 versions come out. http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/728/728533p1.html

The confusion continues ;p

No soccer on the PS3 until April at the earliest and you always know when they are trying to put out the brush fires they will shoot for the moon on their estimates (so if they say spring you figure summer).

North America looks fine. Honestly it looks like it won't affect North America at all. Just Europe which is where MS is focusing on now that Japan is a no hope situation.
