Jets running back Kevan Barlow apologized to 49ers coach Mike Nolan for comparing him to Adolf Hitler in a newspaper interview.

Barlow, who was traded from San Francisco to New York on Sunday for a fourth-round pick, made his inflammatory comments to the Contra Costa Times in Wednesday's editions. Jets coach Eric Mangini said Wednesday he has spoken with Barlow, and the player is sorry for what he said.

"I thought his comments were inappropriate," Mangini said. "After he said it, he wished he could have those words back. But he can't. Kevan has already called coach Nolan to talk to him about that, which I think is important."

Barlow was upset with the trade, mainly because Nolan assured him he wouldn't be dealt. He told the newspaper Nolan was a "first-time head coach with too much power."

"He walks around with a chip on his shoulder, like he's a dictator, like he's Hitler," Barlow told the paper. "People are scared of him. If it ain't Nolan's way, it's the highway."

After making the comments, Barlow called back to say he didn't mean to make the comparison, blaming his outburst on his emotions.

"I was kind of harsh on him, saying he's a dictator. That's bad. Saddam Hussein is a dictator," Barlow said. "I was speaking on emotion."

Barlow was outspoken during his time in San Francisco. He had some spats with teammates and coaches, including a long-running feud with fullback Fred Beasley. The players quashed their fight last season.

i heard this guy wasn't very popular for San Fran because of his mouth... Him and Beasley hated eachother... And he was constantly complaining about sharing time with Hearst/Gore/whoever...

The sad part about it is that after about 6 weeks of being with the Jets and Mangini, he's going to wish he was a 9er, which doesn't say much!

Nolan sounds like Saban........

Riiight, because you hear all kinds of players complaining about Saban instead of praising him. Jealousy is a biatch.

Wait til they don't do well...... saban has had a trail of complaints from every program he was involved in because he's an *******..... he a good coach, but people don't like him. The tough guy **** only works when you're winning....if the Fins go 4-12 this year then who's gonna take getting yelled at?

Why would I be jealous? Saban hasn't done anything yet.... if he wins a Superbowl then I'll acknowledge his greatness...... until then he's just another coach on the hotseat like the other coaches that haven't gotten it done.

I think its safe to say he's far from being on the hotseat.

Well because your a coach does not mean you are everyones best friend. Sometimes the best way to coach is to be that way and do whatever it takes to get the very best out of your players. Saban is tough I am sure, But he also does whats best for his players and the team.

Barlow sucked anyways. Ever play was, *Barlow takes the handoff, Barlow cuts left, barlow cuts right, barlow cuts left, runs into lineman, 1 yard gain*

Look how hicks and gore did in the same offense...much better.

All the fans wanted Gore to be starter anyways, i dont think anyone cares about barlow. Hes gonna be just like Garrison Hearst...a somebody in san francisco, but a nobody anywhere else, he just disappeared.
