Are you guys seriously deriding the OP for naming his son Marino? What are you guys, 10 years old on a school playground? Even if you think it's ridiculous dude it's his kid's name (assuming he is serious). What ever happened to tact.

Lighten up, who are you the playground police? He can name his son whatever he wants, and it`s fine with me. I`ve just never heard of Marino to name a child.

I am actually pretty lighthearted and some light hearted fun is great. Most of these comments were funny, I was lol'ing at diggler's response. I'm Not playground police, just a human being (hard to tell behind these monitors). Who felt kinda bad for the OP.

My playground comment was a bit over the top, but it was for purposes of emphasis! ;-) My apologies. Anyways, to make the OP proud once again ... I present:

The boy's name Marino is pronounced ma-REE-no. It is of Latin (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/1/latin) origin, and its meaning is "of the sea (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/1/sea)." Marinus was the name of two saints (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/1/saints): a third (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/1/third)-century (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/1/century) Roman (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/1/roman) martyr (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/1/martyr), and a legendary (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/1/legendary) saint (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/1/saint) for whom the Italian (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/1/italian) republic (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/1/republic) of San (http://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/1/san) Marino is named.

No I think this thread was ripe for a hijacking, definitely. That's why I read it all, it was humorous.

I have no opinion either way, but that Latin is incorrect. I have four years of Latin under my belt, and if it were "of the sea", it would be "Marini"..."Marino" is "to" or "for the sea". Dan's son was in my class, but he wasn't exactly the best Latin scholar ever. And he'd be the first to admit it. But he livened up the class plenty.

Well a little off topic but my last name is Parker so I will name my future son Peter. Then I shall have spiderman as a son. I'm even thinking of making his middle name spiderman for emphasis. Peter "spiderman" parker. Man that kid's gonna hate me.

I'm not looking to criticize, but it's been a looooong time since I was in a Latin class, but I took three years in high school and I just want to check. The word for sea is mare, like our kicker, marinus would be an adjective, hence the English word marine. "To the sea" should put the noun into accusative case and it being a third declension noun that would be "ad marem." "Of the sea" would be "maris."
