Well Italy played terrible and is already behind the 8 ball trying to qualify for Euro.

They are in the same group as France and Ukraine so they need wins versus the Lithuania's of the world not a 1-1 tie at home.

England 5-0
Scotland 6-0
Slovakia 6-1

These were the big results of yesterday's games

Italy's next game is in Paris Wednesday and I see the French making up for their World Cup loss.

Italy currently down 3 - 1 against France late in the 2nd half . . . doesn't look good for the Italians.

On a brighter note: Germany wins 13 to 0 over San Marino . . . got damn Lukas Podolski had 5 goals . . . I don't remember a game so one sided in recent history. Germans taking out that anger from losing to the Italians a few months ago I see.

Well France won. Too bad for both France and Germany it's coming just a tad late. The only thing that really matters is WC victory.

While that could be correct, one game (or two) doesn't prove that.

Even though Italy won the World Cup, Euro is just as important to a lot of people.

I get just as excited for Euro as I do for the World Cup.

Italy is in trouble. Scotland, Ukraine, and France all have wins and no ties or losses

Not to make excuses for Italy, but I fully expected to lose that game.

My reasoning is as follows:

The English and French leagues have now been in full swing for a few weeks now (All of France's team plays in those leagues). Their training started much earlier. Italy on the other hand has yet to start. Many players were left off the squad because of conditioning (i.e. Nesta, Toni, Totti (even though he may never come back), etc.).

Not taking anything away from France, as they outplayed Italy and won fairly, I'm just saying that they were much better conditioned due to the date that this match fell upon.

As for Italy's position with respect to qualifying. They better get it together come the next two matches in October, or else they could be in an even deeper mess than they are now.

Juventus tied 1-1 on the weekend

HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEE

win for Italy 2-0 over Scotland

For those of you who don't follow Euro it is just as intense for all the countries as the World Cup

This win puts Italy back in the chase to qualify. They were 3rd (4th place had a game in hand) in their group and only the top 2 advance

My mistake with Italy winning they are still in 4th place and only the top 2 qualify

Thank goodness for Luca Toni finally coming out of his national team slump

France 12
Ukraine 12
Scotland 12
Italy 10

I actually enjoy the "Euro" tourney more then the World Cup.

But yeah this qualifying is getting very exciting. I was kind of enjoyin England's struggles. Some fans are saying they miss Beckham!!! How the tides turn so quickly....

The games are better.... way better. If you want to watch the best soccer in the world, you watch the Euro (If only they invited Brazil and Argentina to play there once in a while).

But the WC is special. It has something to it, that just makes every 4 years special.

Having said that Go Furia Roja!!!!!

(not that I have a shot... jeje)

Agreed. No sporting event IMO can top the World Cup.

I don't like these 2 countries hosting a Euro event.

Poland and Ukraine will have better teams then the hosts for 2008 but it still sucks that 2 spots out of 16 are taken out of the qualifying stage

Total disgrace that Ukraine are holding any offical UEFA tournament. When Scotland played there we had to deal with nightly attacks on our fans by gangs of skinhead neo-nazi idiots.

Dont get me wrong its a beautiful country with a helluva lot of stunning women but until it sorts out its attitude to visitors and more especially those there to watch football then UEFA should NEVER have given them this honour.

I'm not exactly an expert here, but don't England and the Netherlands have long-standing problems with hooligans as well?

Anyway, during the last World Cup, I remember hearing that the Polish fans were pretty rough as well. Maybe Poland/Ukraine isn't the best combination of places to hold the event.

As for Euro 08...putting Ukraine, Scotland, France and Italy all in the same group just seems ridiculous. I know something like that always happens, but I wish the governing bodies would seed more than just the top 8 teams for these events.
