According to Eurogamer, Activision CEO Robert Kotick let it drop (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=67768) at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia XV Conference (that's a mouthful) that Guitar Hero would appear "on every significant new format."

xbox live marketplace will be awesome as you can d/l from a large
library of games, probably through mini-transactions. i personally love
xbox live, and is a big reason why i have a 360.

here is a serious question. how good could the sony online experiece be for free?

seriously. i bet it doesn't stay free. microsoft is just really blowing the doors open with xbox live. ps2's online stuff was a joke.

I honestly thought all my friends had gone 'dee dee dee' when they bought this game and told me how great it was. After work one night they convinced me to play and it really is one of the most fun games I've played

Agree 100% - Sony's in for a rude awakening...microsoft actually got there **** together for the 360..it was like the first xbox for them was just a warm-up. Where i think sony has become complacent with there lead and done absolutely nothing to merit purchasing the ps3 so far. The only good things, MGS4 and Final Fantasy are coming from 3rd parties. and then theres blue ray, seriously, i dont want to pay $30 for a movie.....just for 1080p.

Like you said, live is getting crazy good, with xbox vision and all the other cool $hit coming out for it (the GTA exclusive content) ... its now like every day i get on live just to see what they got up new....i really cant imagine in a year how much content will be available...all we need now is a bigger freaking hard drive.

and dont get me wrong i aint no fanboy of anybody (except maybe the good old dreamcast) - i get pretty much every system and normally im exited as heck when a new system's coming out, but theres not one thing good about ps3 right now, especially not for the mula there asking for it.

um... Computer online is free... So why can't a console be... lol... Why should I have to pay for a online when I don't have to for computer..Sony simply is not charging like xbox does doesn't mean it's not as good.

Also sony has yet to hold thier conference so we don't know what else they got in store for us.. Anyways I plan to get both systems but PS3 appeals to me more than xbox right now by alot...

Also sony has yet to hold thier conference so we don't know what else they got in store for us.. Anyways I plan to get both systems but PS3 appeals to me more than xbox right now by alot...But the PC (like the PS2 -- Possibly the PS3) requires you to create new login's for every game... Also, nothing on the PC is centralized... What that means is, the game is at the mercy of the developer to create and sustain an online "space" that allow users to communicate, message, meet, and play each other. There is no univeral medium across PC games. If you're playing Company of Heroes on PC and I'm playing WoW, we can't talk to each other. We can't send invites back and forth to come and play... Or send a message of something cool you're going to do. They're all separate.

The beauty of XBL and the reason it's worth paying for is because Microsoft has created an online playing feild. All developers have to do is implement it into the game (instead of developing something new). This is good for two reasons. One, All 360 are Live enabled -- You get AT LEAST the ability to talk, message, and invite your friends. Two, more 360 games are online enabled because of this.

They've already announced 2 or 3 major PS3 titles that will have no online component. Why? Because Sony doesn't have a centralized hub for developers to use yet. Why? Because it costs money... I don't think sony will ever get to XBL levels for free.

I guess I see your point but I will wait for ps3 to judge.. I don't play consoles online anyways so xbl and ps3 online don't really mean much to me.

No way, I'm still getting it for PS2, I'm not waiting til spring '07 for the game when it comes out in less than a month for PS2, I'll just re-buy it for the 360, lol.

This game is seriously GOD. I NEVER liked those "rythm" games before, thought they were so dumb, but this one is different. it doesn't feel like a cheap gimmick. Plus, it is INSANELY fun when you have a bunch of friends over and get wasted, lol. I never knew HOW bad alcohol effects you, haha. It's liek, you drink, and you're buzzed/drunk, but you still drive home and are like "hey, I'm a good drunk driver, IDk what all those stats say about alcohol imparing you" but then you play GH and you see the yellow dot falling and you end up pressing it on what you THINK is on time but it's really like NINE MINUTES too late, :sidelol:. I haven't driven drunk since (not that I did it often before, but still).

Anyway, the single BEST thing about this game is the fact that "Sweet Child O Mine" is in it. The solo in that song is my favorite guitar solo E-V-E-R. For anyone who doesn't know, here is a list of the confirmed songs for GHII (for the PS2, not sure about 360), and the rumored songs/features.

*EDIT* I'll post them in a seperate post so this one isn't HUGE.

Confirmed Information
-Guitar Hero 2 will be available on the Xbox 360. The game will contain all the same content of the PlayStation 2 version. There will be songs made available for download exclusively for the Xbox 360 version on Xbox Live Marketplace. There will also be a full set of achievements, but there are no details thus far about exactly what you'll need to do to earn those gamer points. The Xbox 360 version will feature a new guitar design called the X-plorer. The guitar has a white body with a gray neck, along with a whammy bar, a D pad, start and back buttons, and a guide button. The clicker is in the middle, and the five multicolored fret buttons are square rather than rounded on the bottom like the Gibson SG guitar controller for the PlayStation 2. The body of the guitar is modeled after the Gibson X-Plorer, with an elongated, pointed body shape. The guitar is about the same size as the SG and features a shoulder strap for comfortable play while standing. This version is just a prototype, so changes to the design may be made.

-Multiplayer will include a pro faceoff mode which will allow both players to play the exact same notes.

-The game will feature in-game endorsements and real world venues.

-The game will feature at least two new characters, a rockabilly character named Dax Deville and a norwegian death metal character called Lars Umlaut

-hammer-ons an pull offs have been tweaked. You will no longer have to hold down the lower frets to pull them off and the window of success for hammer-ons has been tweaked.

-The game will feature a new venue lighting system that sync up the music being played to the lighting.

-At least 55 songs total, 40 licensed songs, 15 indie/in-house songs

-3-button chords, meaning, holding down green+red+yellow, yellow+blue+orange, etc.

-Increased Difficulty

-Practice Mode will feature pre-set sections of songs where you can play, loop and even slow down the track to get used to the fingering.

-Guitar Hero I SG Controllers will be compatible with Guitar Hero II.

-A new multiplayer co-op mode allowing players to collaborate in order to beat songs, with each guitarist playing a separate guitar track. Available guitar tracks include lead, rhythm or bass tracks, depending upon the song. Cooperative players will also share star power, both guitars must be raised for it to be activated. Also, both players will share one life bar.

-Co-op is not the only new Multiplayer Mode. Players can now play: Co-op (different instruments for each player), Traditional Versus (both players trading off notes), Full Versus (both players playing all notes), Survival (most likely play as long as you can without missing a single note, or trying to pass as many songs as possible on a single energy meter), and Handicapped Matches (one player has an advantage over the other).

-Career Mode has been changed, to quote an inside press release: "Players can now experience the feeling of going from an unsigned band to Rock-Stardom via artist endorsements."

-The Bass guitar will make deep clink and chunk sounds when you make a mistake, just like the regular guitars.

-Marcus Henderson has stated in an interview that "Heavy metal will get its due in Guitar Hero II".

Rumors and Pure Speculation
NEW-A forum member took some pictures of the marketing display box for guitar hero 2 and on the box were the following new songs, rock this town by stray cats, woman by wolfmother, and mother (don't know if it is by pink floyd or danzig). killing in the name was also on the box, further confirming the rumor.

-Darryl Anders is one of the bass players that covered some of the songs in Guitar Hero. In his recent blog he states "In GH II you can choose to play Rhythm, Lead or Bass Guitar. You can check me out playing bass and jam right along with me. Being the bassist for GH II was a great experience. Getting the chance to play some of greatest rock songs by the most revered rock bass players in history like Geddy Lee "Rush", Flea "Red Hot Chilli Peppers", Geezer Butler "Black Sabbath", Gene Simmons "Kiss" and of course Derek Smalls "Spinal Tap"" Could this be a hint to the red hot chili peppers being featured in Guitar Hero 2?

- Monkey Wrench by The Foo Fighters.
Link: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=67454 (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=67454)

-A song by The Toadies. The Toadies "Possum Kingdom" was supposed to be in the original Guitar Hero but was bumped last second for "Cowboys From Hell". We can expect RedOctane to make up for this by putting "Possum Kingdom" or another song by The Toadies in Guitar Hero 2.
Link: http://ps2.ign.com/articles/701/701726p3.html (http://ps2.ign.com/articles/701/701726p3.html)

-A song by Voivod. The bands drummer issued the following statement in an update "In other news we were asked by the makers of the Guitar Hero Game if we would let them use a song for GH2, so after some thought we could see no wrong in having two million kids learn Piggy's riff on a Playstation!"

-The new black By Every time i die. During a show the bands frontman announced they their song would be featured in guitar hero 2. later on in a press release the bands record label put out a press release saying they would be featured in guitar hero 2.

-A song by DragonForce. When a band is documented playing Guitar Hero, speculation is bound to arise. Much like Danny Carey from Tool, and The Darkness, the two guitarists for power metal band "Dragonforce" were spotted playing Guitar Hero. DragonForce is a much requested band for Guitar Hero II, and one must conclude that the thought enters the band's minds that they could possibly appear in a sequel to the game that they are playing.

-A song by Tenacious D. "An official list of new music tracks hasn't been released yet, but PSM was told that we shouldn't be surprised to see some Tenacious D in the game."
Link: http://forum.guitarherogame.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=3527 (http://forum.guitarherogame.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=3527) Original info is in PSM.

-A song by Buckethead. Last year, Marcus Henderon said the following quote: "Without going too much into detail, i'll just say this. Buckethead is very much in our plans for GH2. How? who knows... Where? you'll find out... Why? Cuz he's Buckethead. period."
Link: http://forum.guitarherogame.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=546 (http://forum.guitarherogame.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=546)

-A song by Descendents. Marcus Henderson, who recorded songs in both games is also on the song choice committee for Guitar Hero II, he stated in an interview that he has "been in dialogue with Bill Stevenson, their legendary drummer, and I totally want to get them in the game". So we will see what comes out of that. Descendants are an influential early Punk Rock band.

EDIT: I have confirmed with RedOctane that Tool and RedOctane have spoken regarding having a song in the game. Nothing has been decided as of 5/18/06.

-"Wasted Years" by Iron Maiden
Marcus Henderson said the following line, though, it's worded largely rhetorical: "I LOVE MAIDEN!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of my favorite bands ever. How would you guys feel about Wasted Years in GH2?"
Link: http://forum.guitarherogame.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=603 (http://forum.guitarherogame.com/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=603)

-"For Those About To Rock" by AC/DC - RedOctane issued a press release for Guitar Hero II, and the title of the release is "For Those About to Rock With Guitar Hero II, We Salute You! RedOctane Announces Fall US Tour Date" Of course, the first sentence of the title are lyrics and the name of a song by AC/DC. The song has not been confirmed, but it seems odd to make such a possible hint if it was unfounded.

-White, Green, Yellow, and Sexy Pink SG controllers were all seen at E3 2006. However, these could be custom made controllers that will never see the light of day.

IDK about it being something you play for 10hrs straight, but it's definately not just some DDR ripoff. It's MUCH much cooler. You as a guitar player should appreciate it Budd, lol. I think if I DIDN'T play guitar I might not be as into it, or if I didn't listen to the type of music in the game (most of it anyway, I HATE some of the songs in the first one, and some of the announced songs for the second one).

you would think they would put more songs into a game like this. I mean San Andreas had a 100+ songs and that wasn't even the main focus of the game.

Yeah, it comes with the "Cherry" (red, lol) SG. You also can buy JUST the game, so if you already have the first one you don't need to spend $70 to have the guitar included that you don't need.

I have the black SG that came with the game plus I bought an extra controller, the red one, plus my disc got scratched and stopped working so I had to buy a new set (they don't sell JUST the game for GH1), so I have three controllers, lol.

I think there are ruumors floating around that they might make different colored SGs (because different colors were seen at E3) and maybe even different model guitar controllers, but of course all of those would just cost extra money. I'd love a Les Paul controller though

I bought the game a few weeks ago, definetly would say that I'm hooked. Although I'm definetly no guitarist, I'm thankful I've spent the past 5 or 6 years in percussion... It's definetly a lot easier with all the rhythms. I'm ready for Guitar Hero II.. Sounds like Dragonforce may be on the game... meaning only one thing.. speed metal has arrived.

Now the "Bonus Tracks" in GH 1 were all the "indie" bands, and so far there are only 3 confirmed for GH 2, yet there are supposedly 15 in the game, meaning we still have 12 tracks to be announced.

As far as DragonForce goes, I am not familiar with them. I listen to punk ("SoCal" punk like Pennywise and Bad Religion etc, not MTV-POP punk or screaming "hardcore" punk) and classic rock, "hair" metal, and good rock bands of today like Velvet Revolver and such. The only thing it says about them on the GH site is:

Rumors and Pure Speculation

Yes, Pennywise is my favorite band EVER. Bad Religion is second, Strung Out is 3rd, and then the list just goes on and on. I saw Guttermouth open for Pennywise a few years back (2 I think) on my birthday, that was a pretty sick show. I have like 20,000+ MP3s on my computer and 16,000 or more are punk, lol. I listen to SO many bands, not only the bigger ones like PW and BR, but tons of "local" punk bands too, the unsigned ones that are just as good as Pennywise and all of them. I just hate when great up-and-coming bands break up. Two that had GREAT potential were Agent 51 (hence my name, lol) and the Deviates.

I like the older punk too of course, like the Misfits, Clash, Ramones, Bad Brains, Sex Pistols, etc. I remember I saw a show in a TINY club one time that had the Casualties (the ONLY "hardcore" band I like) opening for the Misfits, but it was the "new" Misfits. I personally think this incarnation was BETTER than the Danzig Misfits. It was Jerry Only on Bass and Vocals, plus Dez from Black Flag on Guitar and Marky Ramone on drums!

Do you already own GH1? If so, then you have the guitar, and just need to buy the actual game, which is only $50. If you wait til the 360 version, you're gonna be waiting awhile, because it doesn't come out til SPRING '07. The 360 version looked more appealing to me just for the wireless controllers, but that is now not happening. Also, the downloadable content looks awesome too, but not cool enough to wait 6 months for, lol. I'd just get the PS2 version, then by the time the 360 version comes out you will have enough to buy it, especially if you trade in the PS2 version, that way you'll be good at the songs but then can DL more songs over the marketplace. Also, there is a wireless guitar coming out for the PS2, so that's cool.

This game is awesome. Played for 4 hours last night and my fingers are killing me. But it's worth it.
