is completely dominating Virginia. This could very well be a 200+ yard game. 6-5, 235 pounds with great strength and speed. He'll be a top 10 pick even if he runs a 4.6 40. I know we have more pressing needs, but if we're in a position to draft him....we can't pass him up.

EDIT

He also catches everything thrown his way, he's the total package.

Draft forum maybe?

and I think we would trade down if he were the BPA. Someone would kill to have him.

Whats his speed? if he's slow then he will remind many people of Mike Williams. Honestly, I dont think he will be anything like MW but just throwing it out there..

He reminds me of TO, sans the big head. I don't think TO has a blazing 40, but he is football fast, just like Calvin.

I've seen anything from 4.35 to 4.45. It looks like he's got very good on the field speed. I never saw Mike Williams get anywhere near the separation Calvin Johnson gets, Johnson also has superior strength (think a bigger T.O)

Mike Ditka.....are you out there?

:)

....an entire draft's worth of picks would do nicely.

lol, I would love that, except for 2 things.
1. I hope we don't have a top 10 pick.
and
2. RBs are much more influental(less dependent on others' play) than a WR who doesn't play special teams.

1. No doubt, hopefully we can turn it around and make a Playoff run. If we don't turn it around....Calvin Johnson would be a nice consolation prize.

2. Assuming Calvin Johnson declares; he's the best WR to enter the draft since Larry Fitzgerald (IMO). He's the best player in the '07 draft....

i think it'd be a waste for us to take him even if the opportunity came. granted he is a great receiver and will probably do well in the nfl, but we still have chambers, booker (although getting old), welker, just drafted hagan....and if we have to, put vick on the team off practice squad. we need to improve our secondary and OL the most.

Booker has averaged 679.67 yards per season (47.42 yards per game) since '03; he will also be 31 years old next year. If we don't land Johnson, fine.....Booker is a nice #2 and Welker is a good #3. I like Hagan, but so far he's a 3rd round pick that hasn't really accomplished anything so far (granted wide receivers usually take some time to develop).

Depending on what we could get, I would actually prefer a trade down because we have so many needs. If Calvin Johnson is sitting there at the Dolphins pick, and there is no team willing to give market value to trade up and get him..........we should take the best player available.

If we had Chris Chambers and Chad Johnson, I would probably agree with you.....

He definitely runs better than a 4.6 40
And even if that were the case, I can't imagine he'd fall out of the top 3-5 picks of the draft if he were to come out next year.
They put up a graphic during the game tonight showing some of the most impressive NFL combine numbers in recent years (ie Vernon Davis running a 4.3 @ 250lbs) and Kirk Herbstreit expects Calvin Johnson to blow people away with the same kind of freakish measurables. It remains to be seen, but bottom line is I'd love to have him on the Dolphins next season, I just don't want to sit through the 3 win season necessary to get a shot at drafting him.

They were saying on ESPN that Johnson was clocked as running a 4.3 40, has a 45 inch vertical, and is 6-5 230. That's pretty incredible. He also seems like a humbled, stand up guy.

I though Herbstreit kept saying 4.4 and 36 or so inch vertical. 45 inch vertical and 4.3 speed seems unreal.

Let's just say he's the best player in college, and the number one pick in the draft if he stays healthy. My favorite player to watch. He's just dominating.

Calvin Johnson is clearly a difference maker. He is easily the best WR in college football (sorry Dwayne Jarret) and is projected to be a top 5 pick by every draft guru I have seen out there right now. Most have him #3 behind Quinn and Peterson. The best thing about him is all reports say he is a "team" guy and of high character. A star WR in the NFL without an overinflated ego...imagine that.

Its a shame that vertical jumps and 40 yard dashes are how players are judged and much of thier on field time is basically moot.

Possibly, unless Walter steps up. I really don't see Moss there past this season though and with the Porter situation they desparately need a playmaker at WR.

I just don't think Moss leaves yet, unless things continue as is. I think Shell will have his team improving all through the season though.

Calvin Johnson and Adrian Peterson are hands down the best two players in the Nation

They could go #1 and #2 in the draft depending on what team holds the pick and if Quinn keeps laying an egg

He's going to be a legit #1 receiver. If he was on the Dolphins chances are he would beat out every other WR on the roster for #1 job within 2 years. Not knocking our other receivers but he's really is that good.

if calvin johnson is available when miami picks, the only thing to do is DRAFT him!!! with c-pep more than likely 100% in 2007, johnson would give miami the CONSISTANT.. RELIABLE receiver, it DOESN't have on it's roster NOW.. mcmichael and chambers have disappeared all too often in games... johnson would give miami the most chances of winning more football games... if johnson is on miami's roster in 2007.. he will make mcmichael and chambers very dangerous.. who would the other team take out of the game??? i believe chambers is more of a #2 receiver and mcmichael needs less pressure to be successful... CALVIN JOHNSON just makes the overall offense so much more potent!!!
