Jalen Rose (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=2636) was waived Monday by the New York Knicks (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=nyk), leaving their roster one below the regular-season maximum of 15.

The 6-foot-8 guard/forward, a 12-year NBA veteran, was scheduled to make $16.9 million this season.

The 33-year-old Rose averaged 12.7 points in 26 games for the Knicks last season after being acquired in a February trade with the Toronto Raptors (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=tor). But there didn't appear to be a place for him this season after New York signed swingman Jared Jeffries (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3609) over the summer and drafted Renaldo Balkman (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=4148) with its first pick.

Rose was a nonfactor in the preseason, playing in only four games and going scoreless in 31 minutes.

With Jeffries hurt, Quentin Richardson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3417) will likely start at small forward, with Balkman backing him up. New York opens the regular season at Memphis on Wednesday.

Also happened because both Robinson and Collins have played extremely well.

The Knicks also need to get rid of Starbury and Francis if they want to succeed. They're best players in camp have been Robinson,Frye,Crawford,Balkman,Lee, Collins, and some undrafted FA from Tennessee Tech

no, they've been down that isle with him. He's not going back to Toronto.

The Heat like him, but he'll probably go to Denver.

Heat backcourt void could be filled by Rose

The bloom is off Jalen Rose in New York, but that doesn't mean Pat Riley can't envision the veteran swingman blossoming in South Florida.

Unlike most cases when the Heat coach downplays free-agent prospects, Riley sounded intrigued Monday with the possibility of adding the 6-foot-8 veteran."He's a very skilled player," Riley said shortly after Rose agreed to a buyout with the Knicks. "He's still young, I think, at 33 years old. So he is capable. He's very capable, we know that. But he has to be at the right place at the right time."

Riley offered his comment about Rose shortly after he said a potential return of forward Shandon Anderson has been placed on the backburner.

Because Rose received a significant portion of the $17 million he was due this season from the Knicks, he would arrive with relatively little impact on the Heat's salary cap. He is scheduled to clear waivers at midday Wednesday, after which he can sign with the team of his choice.

Rose got a max deal because he was good. There is no denying the immense talent the man possessed. If he gets his head straight and gets in shape he could be the next Miami rehab project. And unlike Walker, Rose can actually dunk.

Rose was never a max player. When you say someone is good, that means they should be making good money, not what a superstar like Wade or LeBron makes. Rose was always a terrible teamate and a terrible team player. He took way too many shots and was always a headcase. Whoever gave him that contract was on crack plain and simple. Rose has spent the last few years of his deal being salarycap filler for trades.

Actually, Rose got a max deal because he could play the 1,2, or 3. He had some good years with the Pacers, and the Bulls extended him to a max contract. The Raptors got him because they had VC scoring 20+ a night, but MoPete, and Bosh (rookie) were both averaging around 12 points a game. Thus he and Marshall were traded to Toronto.

Rose getting a max contract isn't a crime. The biggest crime is when guys like Foyle, Dampier, and any other big who was never good gets more than the MLE.
