I know there are Magic fans on here besides me, so here is the Magic's very own thread for the 2006/2007 season.

Starting lineup looks like:

C Dwight Howard
PF Darko Milicic/Tony Battie
SF Hedo Turkoglu
SG Grant Hill
PG Jameer Nelson

Important bench players: Carlos Arroyo, Keyon Dooling, Keith Bogans, Trevor Ariza and Pat Garrity. (J.J. Redick once he's fully healthy and in shape.)

The Magic are definitely making the playoffs this year. I guarantee it.
Grant Hill is FINALLY healthy. He says he's got the most range of motion in his ankle he's had since before the injury five years ago.

Dwight Howard is going to break out this year like a 15-year-old's face. He will win the rebounding title and will average about 20-22 points a game. He's that good. He bulked up even more while keeping his freakish athleticism.

The x-factor is Darko. How much has he developed and matured? If the offseason is any indication, the Magic will be in very, very good shape in the post with Darko complementing Dwight Howard.
Darko beefed up 25 pounds in the offseason, and in the FIBA championships he averaged 16 points and 9 rebounds against the likes of Pau Gasol and Yao Ming.

Jameer Nelson is also an up-and-comer. He can score and his passing has improved. He doesn't turn the ball over NEARLY as much as his predecessor, Steve Francis.

As far as seedings go, the Magic are very capable of grabbing anywhere from the 6-8 seeds in the east.

If Darko continues to progress and Grant Hill stays healthy the whole year, however, the 5 seed is certainly not out of the question.

Look for the Magic to finish 2nd in the Southeast behind the Heat, surpassing the Wizards who can defend NO ONE.

It's going to be a great season. Go Magic!!!

P.S... If you don't think much of the young, energetic Magic now, just wait until next year when they get Vince Carter.

No question. Howard is a complete monster. You've got to see this guy in person. He gets up as high and as quickly as anybody I've ever seen.

They bring quality off the bench as well with Arroyo, Dooling, Darko and even Bogans. I was at the game tonight, and the excitement is back in O-town.

whats your reasoning behind that exactly? you say Howard is a animal, and Jameer is great to. so what young players are you worried about from 2-3 years from now?

theres not a doubt in my mind that if Grant can stay healthy, we are a legitimate contender this year.

Howard cant carry the team. Their good, just not real contenders. I should know Ive been watching KG trying to carry that team to playoffs every year. Magic are going to be hella good in 2-3 years.

KG has no legit help, unlike howard who has grant hill, jameer nelson, and once redick gets healthy they'll have a good 3 point shooter, and with darko getting better every day i actually see the magic as a team that can get a 6 or 7 seed

Well if we get last years Mike James then we should be fine. Hudson is a solid bench. Jaric is killing the team. And Foye is a non factor.

It'll be alright.

It's one game where Dwight didn't get the looks he needed. Iverson and Korver didn't miss.

The Magic won't face a team who has two unbelievably hot shooters like that every night.

They'll be 2-1 after Sunday when they play the Hawks.

The Magic are SO deep and versitile in the backcourt. If we can just cut down on some of these dumb turnovers, (ahem, Jameer Nelson) we would be even better.

You know, it's becoming a very strong correlation. When Darko produces, the Magic win. Plain and simple.

He's made very nice progress offensively.

The thing is, he only gets about ten minutes a game because the Magic are so DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP on the peremiter.

Trevor Ariza is usually glued to the other team's hot shooter at the end of games. That's where his true value is.

What a rip off.. Wade was clearly fouled on that jumper.

The possession before, Darko bodies Dorell before the reach in, but no offensive foul. Okay, sure.

O'well, who cares. It's the Heat. We're used to it. Nothing new.

Watch 82 Heat games and you won't care for the playoffs, honestly.

We get ripped by the refs more than any team in the league.

For those clueless on the matter, it's a Refs vs. Pat Riley issue.

You know better than that.

They called a late foul on Keyon Dooling where he didn't even touch D. Wade.

Classless? Stupid of you to say something like that.

How the **** is it classless when you see a blatant foul with your team down 2, with 5-10 seconds to play? Seriously, if that was Jameer Nelson you'd feel the same way.

But like you said.. it's early in the season. Contender/Pretender time.

Boo hooing up a storm? Good, then that's you. I have a smile on my face right now.. people on here who know me, know that I always express my honest to God opinion after games. Always. I don't sugarcoat, or hide anything.

If you ask me what's the 10 biggest problems with this team, I wouldn't even list the refs. I'd list injuries about 3 times, lack of trust from Riley in Dorell Wright 2 times, and Antoine Walker actually being on the ACTIVE LIST for the other 5.

I still think its kind of a joke that people are making such a big deal about the no-call on DWade.

Just as DD mentioned earlier, there was a no call made on Dooling during a crucial point, as well as another BS no call made when Mourning "blocked" Dwight Howard's dunk late in the game.

I have replayed a close up of that play quite a few times with it showing Alonzo's arm litteraly inbetween Dwight's. Even the exact point he made impact with the ball his arm was in contact with Howard's.

Bad calls go both ways. Live with it and stop the whinage.

There's no question Darko is a huge cog in the future of the Magic. He's been playing outstanding defense lately and has made some good shots.

I have no doubt that Darko has been playing outstanding with the amount of time hes been given. He has been exceeding the expectations of everyone I believe, and I just hope he continues to improve.

That boy has some nasty low post moves at age 21 and with little NBA experience.

Why is Roy out?

He's going to be a fantastic player.he has a ankle bone that is longer than most people's. cuz its longer it pinches his muscle and it swells up....the reason its so bad is because since the begining of the college season his senior year he has like no time off (draft workouts, summer league, pick up games at practice facility, training camp)...so he has played 3 1/2 games this season and the rest he has been in an orthospedic(sp) boot that supposed to help it heal until the offseason so he can get surgery to shave the bone and have it not be a problem for the rest of his career...most people here wanted them just to do the surgery which would leave him out for about 3-4 weeks but i guess its a surgery thats pretty serious(more serious than what the newspapers where saying). so he has a MRI on friday and if all goes good he gets the boot of some time next week and will test it out for pain. and rejoin his quest for ROY.

Darko won't lead the team in shots often, but he is growing in confidence, and believe me the Magic are glad to see it. This guy has absolutely everything. He can pass, board, block shots and even has a nice touch from the outside. It's a matter of him getting his head straight.

You gotta be really proud of them tonight, coming off that bad loss in LA and getting one back. The team is really tired right now. You can tell. Only one game left in this dreaded road trip.

They can't go any worse than 4-2 on the roadie. That is simply awesome.

I hate the thug Pacers. Man the Magic always play like crap against them. Always. It never fails.

You could just see the Magic were jet-lagging tonight. 12 day, 6 game road trip. They want to get home really bad.

But they went 4-2 on the trip. You can't ask for anything better than that all the way out on the west coast.

This weekend they have the Pistons and 76ers coming to Orlando. 16-6 here we come.

I am going to the Magic-Pistons game tonight! Section 212 baby! There isnt a team I hate more than the freakin Pissed-ons...

I cant wait to see Dwight Howard DOMINATE tonight. I am thinking another 20-20. Last Magic game I went to was Magic vs. the 76ers last season at the end... when Dwight had 28 and 26. Unfreakinbelieveable... the guy is a monster.

Dwight Howard just could not get a call to go his way all night, and somehow he managed to get called on every little play. Fouled out with about 5 mins left, but he was in foul trouble all night long.:(

Nash - 18 pts, 15 assists
Staudemire- 30 pts, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks(12/14 FT)

why isnt jameer nelson playing???

"Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson won’t play tonight against Toronto or Thursday against Charlotte and he could miss as much as a week because of a strained groin and hamstring."

Lacking Jameer and Hedo Turkolou really hurt the Magic tonight, who just could not seem to find the basket against a Raptor team without Chris Bosh.

Toronto - 91
Orlando - 84

College football and NFL playoffs have had most of my attention lately. I watched the Bobcats game last night, the magic played great without Hill.

I have some tickets for the Magic-Spurs game on Feb 7th, should be a good game.

Trevor Ariza is out 6-8 weeks with a sprained MCL.

At least it was not a tear. He'll be back for the home stretch of the season and the playoffs.

I think Keith Bogans is the guy who gets more minutes with Ariza out. His athleticism and defense are slightly below Ariza's, but Bogans has a way better jump shot. He's 6'5". He can play some small forward.

Got a good one tonight against the Lakers. I hope Dwight schools Andrew Bynum!!!

Just think if they'd make free throws they would have won the game. Clean up the turnovers and make your free throws, and we could go back to Orlando 1-1.

Yes the Magic had no one to blame but themselves.
Missed FT's and turnovers out the yenyang really did us in. Not to mentioned some all round sloppy play. Dooling and his fancy behind the back pass really teed me off and Nelson trying to pass the ball through heavy traffic was not too bright.

Wait till you get in a close game with the Pistons and the Pistons then weave their magical free throw powers on you.

the Pistons are the only team in the history of basketball that can go 9 minutes without a FG and still go on a 16-10 run.

Ask the Cavs..Ask the heat...you will soon join that club.

The Magic need a perimeter presence.

phinman1
04-22-2007, 01:20 PM
The Magic need a point guard. Sorry, but they are going nowhere with Nelson at the point. The guy is basically a 5'8" shooting guard who has limited passing skills, and turns the ball over constantly. Maybe they can get Bibby or Billups next year. Of course, they had Billups at one time and cut him before he even played a game.

Another reason they are going nowhere is that Hill at times can't coach his way out of a paper bag. Other coaches make adjustments, and he does basically nothing. He can't motivate, and has done nothing all year to alleviate the TO's, which continue to kill the team.

Phinz420

Indeed, the Magic still have some ways to go.

I don't want to throw the towel in, but it just doesn't look good. I'm already trying to figure out what kind of team Orlando is going to run next season when we get Tony Battie back.

He is a real Power Forward that will help Dwight out considerably when hes on the floor, as well as giving us a stronger team when Howard is on the bench. One of the things that we have to recognize in Orlando is that we are usually running with 2 small guards on the floor at all times. This isn't necessarily a back-breaking setup all of the time, but when you factor in how we played this entire season without a true power forward, that really compounds the whole "small guards" issue. That created major weaknesses for a team built like Detroit to exploit.
