lol I was getting ready to come in here and slam this thread. I was ready to put up the 1 star lol. I agree though, Rivers looks better than Manning so far. I think Manning will be a good player though.

Who knows in the long run, but Manning has just as much offensive talent around him and he is not playing nearly as good as Rivers. Even though Manning does not have the best rb in the league in LT, he does have what I would say is the 2nd best back in the league and best NFC rb with Tiki Barber, plus a good rb with Brandon Jacobs, Plaxico Burress and Jeremy Shockey. But Eli still struggles, and after watching the game against the Bears it seems that he still hasn't taken his performance to the next level. Eli Manning is so streaky and inaccurate, wheras, as Rives is accurate or much more accurate than Eil Manning and seems much less streaky so far. Eli Manning has to throw much better. He has missed numerous WRs, in the game that were wide open and they were just ten yard passes, and he also had two awful passes that were way overthrown to wide open wrs that resulted in interceptions.

Take LT off the chargers and put him on the giants...then tell me.

Nothing against Tiki, but LT takes a lot of heat off the QB. Gates is a much better TE than shockey too.

Right now, nobody could really say. But Rivers has a much better supporting cast right now.

i agree that rivers will probably be better than manning, but both have shown signs of greatness.

It is definitely starting to look that way, as if the Giants made the wrong choice in that draft. But I have a feeling that we haven't seen the best of Eli Manning yet. Each time he has the ball on his hands, and he is standing on that pocket, I always feel as if he's going to do something great.

Problem Eli has to face that Philip Rivers does not is that he is surrounded by great talents on offense, but around 3 of them are selfish, loudmouth *******. Having Jeremy Shockey and Plaxico Burress on the same offense is like having TWO "San Francisco 49ers version of Terrell Owens" in your offense (I mention that version, because I really think that Terrell Owens has definitely matured now).

You just can't control those two, and if you get on their face, they will back down on your team and sit on the sidelines for the rest of the game to watch you suffer [ie: Seattle vs New York game; Plaxico didn't play the entire second half..].

We agree on something! Eli is vastly overarted, every time he has a decent game they hype him up like he's Montana but they ignore his crappy games whichb there are more of than good games. I have been saying he's an average QB but even an average QB w/ that talent would be doing very well and Eli is not.

The Giants got fleeced in that draftday trade, they could have had Ben or Rivers but instead traded up giving up 2 1st rd picks for Eli.

The gaints gave rivers and a draft pick which yeilded merriman. i know he is on suspension but you got to evaluate

rivers + merriman = eli ....for now looks like a bad deal.funny how last year archie manning wanted eli traded to the chargers back as they have a better team.

It's much worse than that:

The Giants traded the fourth pick overall in the draft (quarterback Philip Rivers), a third-round pick this year and first- and fifth-round picks next year to the San Diego Chargers for Manning

I've been impressed with Rivers since watching him light up the field during his Senior Bowl. They kid is pure talent and will prove to be worth the money that SD paid him.

I just wish we could have gotten him :(

Rivers, Eli, Cutler or Leinart.....would have made me very happy :(

It's not surprising that a New York team passed on a quarterback that was compared to or IS Dan Marino. I mean, it did happen once before.

Easy...by no means is Rivers ready to be mentioned next to Marino, he's got a long way to go before that can happen...

But one thing I've noticed during practice is his throwing motion is NOW a lot higher than college and his release is still lightning quick....

One thing about Rivers that Im totally impressed with is the ability to read defenses correctly and pocket presence....

Me too.

I thought he was making a comparison on Rivers and Peyton based on one breakout performance.

Considering the trade SD got in return for letting Prince Manning go where he thought it acceptable to play, I'd say SD clearly won big time on this one.

Rivers is going to be a good one.

Funny how with the rd2 pick and 10 million dolla check to CPep next year. Its confirmed that miami chooses to go the retread versions of qb or lower round picks qba instead develop a young qb with a team build around a franchise qb.

forget 1st round check out gradowski[sp?] 6th round pick for tampa that kid is special. He overwrote the record in high school of namath , monata and went in the 6th round.

can't really call him special yet. hasn't done anything. and breaking high school records mean absolutely nothing.

we are evaluating talent as rivers and manning have done nothing. i believe one takes a young healthy qb and moulds him to be a franchise then get a retread to do it.

It may be too early to say he is far better than Manning, but Rivers ( in his first year starting) is definitely better already and will be far better if he keeps it up. It's funny that the Giants traded up for Eli. I think he is a good QB that will continue to get better, but they could have stayed right where they were and drafted Rivers (who is playing great) or Roethlisberger (who already has a ring...not all because of himself of course, but...) and they could've also had Shawne Merriman to add to that defense because thats who SD took in that trade ...damn!!!! SD is no joke when it comes to that draft...they also drafted LT and Brees in the same draft!

I DEFINITELY AGREE ELI DOESNT MAKE GREAT DECISIONS AT TIMES AND HESITATES BUT HE SHOWS FLASHES OF BEING A STUD AT TIMES BUT OVERALL PHILLIP SHOWS SIGNS THAT HES THE BETTER QB RIGHT NOW.

IVE ALWAYS LIKED PHILLIP CAUSE HES ATTITUDE OF A LEADER AND THAT HES ON TOP OF FOOTBALL LIKE HE KNOWS WHATHES DOING AND THE CONFIDENCE AND THE WAY HE TALKS JUST SHOWS HES MATURITY AND WHAT HES DOING.

God the chargers got a better qb and shawn merriman
