Man I am pissed. Looks like PJ isn't doing The Hobbit because of some legal mumbo-jumbo and who knows what else. I can't imagine anyone else doing these movies and I can't see anyone else being able to bring this movie to life like PJ was able to. The simple fact that Jackson isn't doing the movie could really effect New Line's ability to get some of the actors back to reprise their roles, most notably Ian McKellan (Gandalf) and Andy Serkis (Gollum). We'll see what happens....

Without Jackson running the ship I'd rather them not even make the movie, no way anyone else could do it justice.:shakeno:

I thought they had been discussing maiking a tv Series instead of making a movie, I read an interview with McKellen about that (which would be perfect because they could make their enourmous never ending movies but at least give us a pause)

Well, it looks like there is still a chance, although very small, that Jackson could still end up doing "The Hobbit." Here is a link for those who are interested in what will probably be an on going battle of big shots. (There is also another link to the full article of Variety magazine.

Of note, there is already a huge outcry from LOTR/Jackson fans about New Line's stance to move on without Jackson at the helm. I won't be surprised at all to see New Line change their mind quickly. There is a HUGE LOTR following and 90% of those people are pretty loyal to PJ. This will surely have some influence on what happens. The New Line people can already see visions of $$$ floating away because of this.

For anyone who cares, sign this petition that is being sent to New Line to try to ensure they work something out for Peter Jackson to direct the Hobbit film. Thanks!

Jackson may still do it after all

Q: What is with the long anticipated Hobbit-adaption? A: It will definitely be shot by Peter Jackson. The question is only when. He wants to shoot another movie first. Next year the Hobbit-rights will fall back to my company. I suppose that Peter will wait because he knows that he will make the best deal with us. And he is fed up with the studios: to get his profit share on the rings trilogy he had to sue New Line. With us in contrast he knows that he will be paid fairly and artistically supported without reservation.

Turns out that interview took place before the official announcement by Jackson that he would not do the Hobbit movie.

Granted, there is still a good chance he does it because (even though the film rights are owned by New Line) MGM owns the distribution rights and really wants Jackson to helm the project. It will be interesting to see what transpires over the next couple of weeks.
