Are they supposed to be fillers for Half life 3? I know there are 3 episodes planned but I hope they make a Half-Life 3.

I'm pretty sure its different from HL3...i think you can compare the episodes to Opposing force and Blue shift....also don't bother counting the days for HL3 because its going to be another 6 years or so

No valve said the episodes are half-life 3. So after the episodes there will be a half-life 4 if there is ever one.

but then why call it Half-Life 2: Episode one?

I though the episodes were extension (expansions?) of HL2. I dunno.

Half-Life 2: Episode Three will be the third installment of the computer game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_game) series Half-Life 2: Episodes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-Life_2:_Episode_One) by Valve Corporation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valve_Corporation). It will be the last in the currently planned story arc and is expected to be released by Christmas (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas) 2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007). In all, these three episodes are seen as Half-Life 3 by the development team.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-Life_2:_Episode_Three#_note-0)

Man this is great, I never caught this interview before, but Eurogamer is asking Valve about their ventures into Hollywood to attempt in making a Half Life movie.

Remember that Valve is a european company, and the infamous Uwe Boll(German Writer/Director) responsible for such movie tragedies like "House of the Dead", "Alone in the Dark", "BloodRayne", and is in the process of ruining the franchises of "Dungeon Seige", "Postal", and "Far Cry" as we speak.

This all stems from the ability for Uwe Boll to rape German Tax benefits where he is still able to turn a profit without his movies even breaking even for what they cost to make.

Anyways, here is the tidbit from Valve developers regarding what has been brought to them thus far for a HL film.

Eurogamer: Talking of Hollywood, has anyone from the movie world come up with a decent Half-Life movie script yet?

Gabe Newell: They all sucked!

Eurogamer: In what way did they suck?

Gabe Newell: They're just bad movies - movies that shouldn't get made. I'm a huge fan of movies, I love going to movies and we have absolutely no reason to do it. It's not like they've offered us these giant buckets of cash and said "let us go and ruin your game" [laughs]. They offer you little tiny amounts of cash, so it's like they've not even tried to bribe us to go and make a bad movie. So it's the one thing we're going to hold on to. Unless it's a great movie, unless it's as exciting a movie as the game was a game then it will never get made.

Eurogamer: Could you not just go and handpick a script writer and director and approach it that way?

Gabe Newell: We've tried that, but we've ended up with really uninspired scripts. It's just not going to happen until we think that there's a director and a cast and a script and can say this is a movie we'd like to go and see, and not just some vanity piece. We've seen what happens to those sorts of movies and the world would be a better place if nine tenths of those projects had never happened.

Robin Walker: You've got a few hours of your life back.

Eurogamer: Is it just that they're not really in tune with what Half-Life's about and don't get it?

Gabe Newell: No, I just think that there's an attitude right now that they're trying to exploit the built-in audience of gamers right now and they don't really care whether the movies are any good. I think there's also this element of financing in Germany where they don't really care how profitable the movies are either, so you have this collision of people who are not long-term stakeholders who just think 'what are the next five movies I can crank out before the German government closes this tax loophole?' and 95 per cent of the gaming movies are being made specifically for those reasons.

Eurogamer: Do you make a point of watching them just to see how bad they can be?

Gabe Newell: Yes [longest sigh ever]. I have to put on my professional 'I'm doing this for the company' hat, not the 'I'm a movie go-er whose soul is going to be crushed by another unbelievably crappy game adaptation' one.

I wish Uwe Boll was never born! This interview made me smile.

I see... I guess I'll have to purchase the episodes then. Plus ep 2 comes with TF2 and PORTAL!

The idea of a HL movie would be great!

Just remember, Episode 1 is very(very) short. You may be disapointed for $20 even though it is alot of fun. Episode 2 being packed with TF2 and Portal ensured that I will purchase it, but I am still praying that Ep2 will be atleast longer than the first one. I felt kind of jipped with the first one to be honest, and I am a HUGE HL fan.

Wasnt the first 1 like 3-5 chapters?

Well I'll look around to see if I can get it under 15. The second one is going to be a must buy.

Its around 4 hours in length. Which isnt as bad as it sounds when you actually get in there and play it. They did a great job with the story and the action is there like you would expect. Bringing in HDR technology that they introduced with Lost Coast does make the game's looks feel enhanced as well.

I dont want to give the wrong impression over Ep1. Its a great game, its just that if your not a huge HL fan, you may not be completely satisfied with the $20 cost for only the 4 hours of gameplay. If the stories of HL1 & 2 gripped you as much as it did me though, then valve already has your money too, even if you havent bought it yet. :goof:

Well if you are looking for a cool new MP game to play. Episode 2 will have Team Fortress 2 packed in. Team Fortress is great gameplay, and it is a ton of fun to play. I mean, who doesnt want to run around online with a huge chain-gun, or snipe somone in the head-seeing their head burst like a melon!

I used to have a lot of fun as a medic as well, their heal kit also poisons the enemy, so sneaking into their base and spreading a virus that is spread from 1 enemy to another is complete anarchy.

I really can't wait for Ep2 just to get in on some TF2.

I thought HL 2 was 10X better than HL 1 IMO.

Did you play HL1 when it was released back in 98 though? For its time, it was far beyond any shooter ever made.
