There will be no retirement speech from Junior Seau in the near future. Seau, out for the season after breaking his right forearm in a game two weeks ago, said yesterday he plans to return to the NFL for an 18th season next year. (http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20061208/news_1s8seau.html) “I'm going to be back,” Seau said. “I don't know which helmet I'll wear, but I'm definitely going to be back.” The former Oceanside High, USC and Chargers great, who turns 38 next month, signed a one-year deal with the Patriots in training camp and immediately won the starting job at middle linebacker. Used almost exclusively on early downs or in run situations, he still ranks third on the team in tackles (69) despite missing the past two-plus games.

I can understand not wanting to go out after a injury like that, but really he might be able to pass a physical after that gruesome break.

More like Steve Carlton. Should have hung it up three years before he did.

His contract with the Patriots ran only one year. At Patriots Planet, most are hoping he decides to return to the Patriots, but he could end up anywhere. Yah, he is getting old, and he will be less likely to be able to get through a full season, but he sure pulled his weight this year.

While the Patriots built their defensive line from number one draft picks, they quite commonly bring in a veteran linebacker or two, stars, past their prime, no longer getting or asking for the big money contracts they had a few years back. It seems to work. The Patriots gets some high intensity high skill players, perhaps not as good as they once were, but still quite capable of filling their role in the Patriots system. The player gets a decent shot at a ring. It works.

Seau's not going to listen until he gets hurt seriously I'm telling you. He is a future hall of famer that needs to bring his career to an end.

Seau is one of the greats. A great player, a great person. I love to watch him play but it hurts to see him being used as a sub-in-sub-out and get injured all the damn time. He has heart though. I think we'll see him back as a coach.

I hope he retires. He needs to go away with his health before he seriously gets hurt.
