View Full Version : MERGED-Bills game blacked out? NY-Can fans respond

TorontoFin

If I'm not mistaken us Sunday Ticket viewers in the "buffalo" region in Southern Ontario or upstate NY will have our Sunday Ticket broadcast blacked out as well, right? Ridiculous since I'm paying to watch games, but the ST disclaimer says "local blackout rules apply." I'm pretty sure Toronto is "local." Can anyone from S Ontario or upstate NY depending on ST confirm? Thanks

I can't confirm that Toronto is included in the blackout but I feel your pain...Hey, but at the least the Sabres are awesome :dolphins:

Dude you are jumping to conclusion. I just got off the phone with news Channel 8 here in Rochester NY, and they said they haven't heard anything yet and it wont be announced until tomorrow, thursday at 5:00 at news at 5 so that comes from an legitament resource.

Even with sunday ticket, they can black out the games?, are you paying for the entire season from all the games?

ρħϊηάτϊς°³
12-13-2006, 11:17 PM
There are 6,000 tix left that need to be sold by tomorrow. There is a 90% chance this game is blacked out. And yes, it will be blacked out on Sunday Ticket too, unfortunately :(

This will be the 3rd blackout in a row by Buffalo. Wow, what is the record?

ρħϊηάτϊς°³
12-13-2006, 11:37 PM
Yes, it would be the 3rd in a row but I gotta say the Bills fans here are among the best in the NFL. We (as in Buffalo) are 6,000 tickets short of a sellout but what they don't mention is we have one of, if not the largest stadium (seating capacity) in the league. Also, considering the Bills are not a very exciting team right now and the attention being given to the Sabres, for good reason, I'm not shocked by this.

back when buffalo was really bad i can remember like half there games blacked out and it might have been close to all the games....No reason this 1 should be blacked out theres alot of Miami fans in NY.

The next 3 games should be statement games for this division and the afc for next year...Glo PHINS!!

Unless the TV stations step up, it will be blacked out.
And as a Sunday Ticket sub of 11 years who lives 120 miles east of Loserville, the games are blacked out as well as regular TV.
Any game on the local CBS and Fox station is blacked out on NFLST.
Stupid, but they do it.

Dude, with all due respect. I have to disagree how the Bills are the best fans. I think they're pathetic -- all talk. No other team has been blacked out for years and the Bills have managed it 3 times in a row -- all while the team is actually IMPROVING! huh? Yes your stadium is higher capacity than newer facilities. But so what? If Heiz field upped its capacity by another 10,000 seats, do you really think they'd have trouble selling out any game?
also, Buffalo is an 1.5 hours away from the fourth largest city (and thereby market) in North america, not to mention that the southern Ontario region in general is one of the most densly populated regions on the continent. I don't know the actual numbers, but I'd be suprised if at least 20 percent of ticket buyers are actually Canadian -- without them, we'd be talking about beating the Toronto Bills right now.

I'm tired of hearing how Bills fans are some of the best sports fans. It's a joke.

I had NFL Sunday Ticket 3 years ago and was blacked out for a Fins game, so ST doesn't guarantee a game is on, if blacked out ST won't help. And that's unfair, if you pay that much for ST you should be exempt from blackouts.

One question if you live in Toronto why don't you just come hop on the QEW cross the Peace Bridge and go to the game. I would recommend if you do that to leave super early because it took me 3 hours to get across when I was coming back from the casino the same day as the Packers game.

Bills get an extension.
From their site:
The Bills have requested and been granted an extension by the NFL to sell out Sunday’s game against the Dolphins. The team must sell the remaining 5,000 tickets by Friday at 1:00 pm to comply with the National Football League’s Blackout policy. If the game is not sold out by tomorrow’s deadline, the game will not be televised locally.

The Buffalo Bills-Miami Dolphins game this Sunday at Ralph Wilson Stadium is not sold out and will not be televised locally. Sunday’s game will mark just the fourth blackout in the past 31 regular season home games for the Buffalo Bills. Approximately 4,000 tickets remain and can be purchased in person at the Ralph Wilson Stadium box office, The Bills Store in the Eastview Mall in Rochester, and all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets are also available online.

That's not gonna help. I was told that the blackout radius is 75 miles from the stadium and all broadcasts (including bars and nfl ticket subscribers) are blacked out as well.

So if I were not going to the game I would have to drive to a bar that is just outside the 75 mile radius which would still be a little hike from here. Bills fans needed to step up and support the team. This is now 3 in a row being blacked out here. And with next weeks game on Xmas eve it'll only get worse for Bills fans.

The Bills rank 13th in the league in attendance. The problem isn't that fans don't go to the game IMO it's because the stadium is too big. I think people just want to know what's going to happen to the team after Ralph. Roger Goodell is from Jamestown which is about an hour away from Buffalo, if that holds any merit. Another reason for the dropoff in the Bills ticket sales is that hockey is king in Buffalo.

A LOT of people are saying that the unbelievable play of the Sabers right now is what's hurting ticket sales for the Bills. People want to pay to see the winning team instead of the one who is likely missing the playoffs.

I agree also that the stadium size is a factor. IMO they should ammend the blackout rule to say if 85% of the tickets get sold the blackout is waved. But that's just my opinion.

I dont really understand what ticket sales should have to do with whether its televised or not.

Your telling me a network wont still make money with with all the time slots for commercials? So whats the big deal.
It's not a network rule, it's a league rule. The league loses money if the stadium doesn't sell out.

Buffalo and Rochester I understand, but I live near Syracuse, 200 miles from Loserville.
I know why Syr. is blacked out, but it is still BS.
And I get the Sunday Ticket for 1 reason, the Phins. For $200, there should be NO blackouts.

Amen. If you pay for Sunday Ticket you do so to watch ALL THE GAMES. It's the same thing when hurricanes have moved Dolphins games to other nights. Why can't I see that? I pay for Sunday Ticket so I don't have to miss the Dolphins, why can't I see them play?

I understand why the NFL has the rules it has, but it seems for the fans who pay premium prices in order to be able to watch the NFL that they should get some sort of a break.

It's not about saving money. It's about penalizing the fans within 75 miles if the game doesn't sell out, thus encouraging them to buy tickets or travel outside 75 miles to watch the game.

i live in rochester, have the sunday ticket and still dont get to see the game:mad: the problem in buffalo is you have one of the smallest markets in the league and one of the largest stadiums. they need to adjust the blackout rules to reflect that. it gets tough to sell out a game in buffalo in late december, the weather sucks and the team is usually out of the playoffs by then.

The entire Syracuse TV market gets blacked out because a small area, in the far west, falls within a shadow of the 75 miles of Orchard Park.

Another reason for the dropoff in the Bills ticket sales is that hockey is king in Buffalo.

http://www.stadiumsofnfl.com/capacity.htm

The problem with that is that when the Bills were winning they set an NFL record for attendance, averaging 79,000 fans a game.

It's not that they cannot handle the capacity, it's that they, like in most Cities, are bandwagoneers!!!

So many Billy fans love to get on the Dolphins about attendance but they are the cream of the crop when it comes to losing. They are Driving the bandwagon bus...

Quit you're bi*ching and go buy a ticket. You're WORSE than a BILLS fan.

The reason why you can't see the game on local tv in 'Cuse is because your TV signal REACHES within 75 miles of WNY.

Yeah, it sucks for everyone. Buffalo blows Miami's total attendance away every year but we're the one's who might lose a team? Yea RIGHT!

What about Jacksonville who covers 7000 plus seats just to sell out? Now that's a crock of ****!

Bills aren't going anywhere, period.

And talk about loserville? Syracuse is not only the snowiest city in the state - it is most certainly the armpit of NY.

You might want to do some research before you make certain statements. Like the one I highlighted in bold in your quote.

ONE YEAR out of 10 (not including 2005) does not make a blow out mate.....

be careful who you throw stones at.

The Dolphins didn't sell out a playoff game a few years back!! We are the ONLY team in the modern era to have a playoff game blacked out!

Sorry Mike, I need to correct you here, if you are talking about the Ravens playoff game, I can tell you it did sell out the day of the game, I know this because I was in line for about 45 minutes and the people in front of me bought the last tickets, I get to the window and hear "sorry we are SOLD OUT". Luckily there are tickets to be had around the stadium.

As far as other teams being blacked out, I know the Bills were blacked out against the Oilers in the come back game, and I also know that the NFL gave the Bills up until game day to sell out for the AFC Championship game against the Chiefs a few years later. Without that extension the Championship game would have been a blackout. To me that is the ultimate slap in the face.

Actually the Bills - Jags playoff game a few years later was also not sold out and blacked out locally.

So that makes 3 playoff games in about 5 years for the Bills to be blacked out.

The Bills stadium is awful. It's like a warzone.

You pretty much can't wear any clothing of the other team. Unless you like getting food thrown on you, spit at, or cursed at for 4 hours. They take things wayyyyyyyy too seriously.

MNF didn't go there for over 10 years because of an incident in the late 80's or early 90's. During the Bills historic 4 AFC Championship run remember them playing any MNF games at home. NOPE!!! ABC/NFL refused to go there. Fights, they tipped the ABC truck did a ton of damage, and I think Al Michaels was attacked after a game once by drunkin fans. I knew it was either Al, Frank or Dan. Not sure which one.

The stadium is very old with not any bells and whistles. If you spend the money through STUB HUB and gets nice seats in the lower 100 level or even some 200 level club seats........your visit won't be awful. If you don't have that kind of money and just get a basic seat, endzone, 300 level...etc, GOING TO IRAQ may be a better alternative for 3 hours on a Sunday!

I went to the game there last year and I didn't hate it. My seat had a good view, the beer was cold, the seat was dry and the game was good. It would have been better if we had won the game but that's how it goes sometimes.

And for the record all of the following was true:

I wore a Dolphins Jersey.

I wasn't spit on.

I didn't get in a fight.

I didn't have anything thrown at me.

I had taken no verbal abuse before or during the game.

A few comments were made by a very select few fans after the game but nothing major. Just the typical "Dolphins suck", "we squished the fish", ect.

I live in Rochester, NY, and I do not get to see many games as it is. Since it's a blackout and there are 4,000 seats still available, it is not being televised. Lets just say I'm angry.

I better not respond to this post.

You'll report me again! :rolleyes2

You love this "crap" from Buffalo fans? Then why did you report my post??? Seriously, is there anything more pathetic than reporting someone in a SMACK TALK FORUM?

Next time, maybe you should hold your mother's hand next time you come in here, so she can comfort you when I bitch slap your ass again.

Looks like a full featured sports bar, with excellent views of the action.

I expect they have pool tables, stocked with full racks of pool cues?

Sopcast looks like a great program, but the blogspot listed is just that; a blogspot. Can someone give me some extra help on where (what address) the games themselves are broadcast on? I've downloaded and installed the program, and it works great, but where do you go to actually see the game, and not someone's blog?
Thanks

In or near Buffalo NO. Everywhere else in the country, YES.

Time to get moving. I want to do a little tailgating before the game. In general I think blackouts suck. But in this case it gave me a valid excuse to give the wife for why I had to spend $140 to go to the game :D

I even showed her the local paper to prove the game wouldn't be on TV

GO DOLPHINS :dolphins:

At least when our fans buy tickets, we show up.

Can't say the same for Miami.

71,011 was the total attendance.
