I'm half and half. I am half Italian from my mother's side and half Ukranian from my Dad's side. But anyone can tell you that I don't look Italian, so most people don't know it unless I tell them. I definitely take my Dad's side as far as how I look goes.

Nope, no 'connected' family - hee hee. My daddy's people are from a small town in Sicily called Linguaglossa. Linguaglossa is located on the east side of Sicily, near the beaches of Catania.

It's probably because Being Sicilian is associated with the Mafia. My mother always would say an Italian?american word, "carvone." "Don't be a carvone."

What it meant was, don't go around bragging about being Italian etc., making a big deal about it. I'm not saying people who are saying they are Sicilian are always like that, but there are those who are proud to be Italian, or they actually wish they were because of the affiliation with the Mafia.

I guess it's a macho thing. But, if you truly know anything about the mob, you know not to mess with it.

I know people who wish they were Italian so they could be associated with the mafia and they ask me if I can get them in as if I'm apart of it. Only if they didn't see that newspaper article.
