OK for 1 I am seriously looking forward to this game. I have watched many Vids on it, and it looks rad...alot of fun.

almost like GTA but you are a super cop....you can jump from roof top to roof top matrix style....you level up as you play by doing things....like driving more levels your driving skill, and gives your car upgrades

ONLINE....CO-OP with XBOX LIVE! basically you and a pal are in the same freaking city.....oh and guess what? friendly fire IS ON and is encouraged for fun...like you two might be working on a mission and bam you accidentally shoot your friend.....well now you got a full on cat and mouse game through the city while you try to kill each other...

city is massive, i hear the graphics are HOT, and the aiming system rocks (you can shoot someon in the hand to make them drop a gun, leg shots, head shots).

I hear the demo is fun, after you play for a little and start to level up various skills....ill prolly shoot for high agility so i can jump and fly from building to building.

also pre-ordering crackdown gets you a halo 3 beta multiplayer key.

The game looks cool.

The review said the co-op for single player is quite useless though because it doensn't seem like you have to work together much. You pretty much just run around and do your own thing which is dissapointing.

Although on XBL it should be pretty interesting I would think. I guess it's just the same as playing GTA though.

Phin-o-rama
01-23-2007, 01:40 PM
if by useless you mean fun then wooot....because i think it will rock!!

Crackdown's Co-op sounds like what Saint's Row online multiplayer wishes it was...

monster city.....both in at the same time working together to skill up and have fun....you will need some imagination to probably get the most out of this game...

and its not the same as GTA.....you are a cop and have total authority, you can never get arrested or have to run from the cops....you can spawn your own vehicles that ROCK and upgrade with you (visually...when you summon them and get in they morph like a transformer depending on how much you've leveled).....one dev said something like....if you wanna run around eating food, lifting weights and doing drive-by's then play GTA....if you just want the drive-by's then play crackdown...

plus i hear the 'draw-distance' is phenomenal

IM EXCITED!!!L!!!!1

The game looks cool, the only gripe I have with it is other than online features the game looks like it won't have too much replay value (that means I think it will get boring ;) ).

Like FinsNCanes said the online co-op doesn't seem to have too much purpose.

On my 1st try, I wasn't too hot for this game... But upon further review, it kicks ***.

The mechanics take a little getting used to. But running around and getting better at driving, jumping, shooting, and strength while playing through a game is just fun. In the demo, your leveling-up process has been accellorated so you can experience it, but it's awsome when you hit level 3 acrobatics and can jump 20 feet into the air.

I plan on buying this the day it comes out.

Halo 3 Beta for All

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"A Microsoft representative confirmed to IGN that every copy of Crackdown includes an invite to the Halo 3 beta. If you want in on the beta (and didn't earn an invite by other means), purchase a copy of Crackdown on February 20 and you'll be set. You can even purchase a copy on February 21 or even March 15 and still be in the clear. Oh, and you'll get a copy of Crackdown to boot. Sweet!"

I've got Lost Planet, and it's been a lot of fun. Pretty much a run-and-gun type game with giant bugs, snow pirates (humans), mechs to use and fight and the constant life-sapping COLD that keeps you searching for heat powerups to stay alive.

Crackdown should be a blast, I've had a preorded since August of last year. The Halo 3 beta is just a bonus.

What do I love about Xbox Live? The fact I can tell you to just download these game demos and try them out!! The demos are not as polished as the finished games, but they'll give you a good idea of how it plays.

I've only gotten to the third stage/level, where a GIANT (think Godzilla movie monster) iceworm thing gulped me down. :boohoo: Work has kept me away from gaming for most of this month, but hopefully this weekend I'll get some serious progress done. I've downloaded, but not even tried the Crackdown demo.

I got the Limited Edition of LP, so I got the extra multi-player map, wallpapers, soundtrack disk, a poster, etc. I've yet to try the multi-player stuff though.

Just for reference Motion, a 360 with some games and a second controller are mere fractions of the price of a new car and wedding expenses. If you bought it, and then paid for those other things, you'd think the 360 was free by comparison. Or you could just find a car dealership that gives away 360's with the purchase of a new car, lol. That's what some do up here (at least they were for a while).

Microsoft Game Studios brings better news though, Forza Motorsport 2 will be coming to North America soon in May. That's quite the improvement from the originally scheduled November 2006 release date. Forza community representative Che Chou said that "our schedule right now has us hitting Xbox certification around the middle of April and going gold soon afterwards. We want them to put the game on shelves as soon and fast as they can humanly muster. So optimistic estimates have us at retail in the first half of May--obviously the sooner the better and that's our goal."

I refuse to play this demo anymore....I love it, but I want to deprive myself of it till it comes out...

the demo features 'accelerated leveling' so people can get a feel for the different levels of each skill can be. once you hit level 2 in anything you get 30 minutes more play.

I'm anxiously awaiting this one....I think it will be a blast to play the full game and can't wait. Of course a halo 3 beta multiplayer key is icing on the cake as I'm not a huge halo guy, but I'll play it for sure!

anyways....crackdown ftw

DisturbedShifty

After playing the demo. I think I will pass. It became boring IMO. The leveling up idea is neat, but the expanse of the levels is just to much. And the endless amounts of enemies. Even if you think you have an area cleared, they just keep pouring out of the wood work. It got real repetative after about ten minutes of play time.

Vice City was just the right size as far as free roaming is concerened. And that's the other problem I have with it, I know it's made by a few ex-Rockstar employees. But is trys to hard to be another Vice City, except you on the other side of the law.

The only other reason I would have had to buy this game was for the Halo 3 Beta code. But I already have my invite for the Beta so I can jsut go rent this game.

I thought it was phenomenal. Like I said in an earlier post, my first play through the demo was meh. I said I'd pass too... Upon further review, this game goes far deeper than any current GTA game could imo. The futuristic setting, the leveling... just too much fun.

I finally downloaded it, haven't had the chance to get into it yet, but first impression: graphics look a bit cartoonish.

The other night I threw a bunch of thugs in a dumpster and then threw the dumpster in the river.

Think about the fun you can do with this game. You can play basketball by using the thugs and dumpsters. And then throw a few explosive barrels in there and lightem' up!

First thing’s first, let’s get the GTA comparison out of the way. Yes, Crackdown is a GTA inspired open-ended mission based third person action game chalk full of street violence goodness. The content is wicked bad on many levels and should not be played with children present. With that said, if you can put your morals aside you’ll probably have a blast with Crackdown. That and well you know Halo 3 beta.

Now what we have at the core of the storyline is really simple yet it’s a recipe for total mayhem. Basically normal police forces have given up hope, so this city has a new force set up called “The Agency”, which is kind of the last hope for the city. The city in question is Pacific City, and it’s over-run by heavily-armed gangs that run everything from transportation to your local kebab shop. Your job is simple clean up the city. Like I said this game has a strong foundation of ingredients for some extreme gameplay mayhem.

Like most GTA imitations you are up against gangs and no normal person is willing to take on that responsibility, but your superhuman, cloned for maximum law enforcement Agent is more then up for the challenge. A modern day Robocop if you will but with way more tricks up his sleeves then Robocop could ever hope to wield. Speaking of capabilities, your agent can learn new skills astoundingly rapid. If you handle firearms, drive, lift objects, fistfight, jump or whatever, you'll gradually get better at it, and this is physically represented in the character. So lift lots of things, and he'll get buffer as his arms grow in size, shoot things regularly and his aim will gradually steady. Now Crackdown is definitely going to be recognized for this impressive system. It really brings the game to life and gives the player a purpose to do certain things.

But remember practice makes perfect, so in order to take down these gangs you are going to have to fine tune your abilities for some maximum destructions. Three gangs run the city; the Volk, Los Muertos and the Shai-Gen Corporation. Each gang has kingpins that you'll need to take down to get at the lead kingpin. What is even more interesting is that each kingpin is totally accessible from the very second you start playing this game. Though, the accessibility is obviously not the problem it’s the fire power surrounding the kingpins that is challenging. But anyone can eventually build there agents up enough to take out any opponent in a matter of seconds, even your little sister could eventually brutally take back the city. Anyhow, it’s not all about power there is also another layer to this game that makes it even more malicious.

Let’s say the Volk’s are receiving an illegal shipment at the docks and you decide to open a couple cans of woop !&%$@#* on them. Then magically the gang’s lost becomes a bonus for you because their effectiveness with guns will be crippled. Before you go for that big boss, taking out his (or her) support network will make him a plausible take-down. You fancy this game yet? If not I’ve got one more feature to tell you about. Multiplayer is one of the main aspects of this game that totally sold me. Online co-op threw the whole game enough said. On top of all that, the achievements will also take a toll on your precious time, mainly because some of them are extremely original and fun to acquire.

Visually, Crackdown let’s you become the comic book character you've always wanted to be. I love the cell-shaded look of it; it's what makes the game so much more unique. Saying that it is because it looks cartoony is the wrong choice of words. Unique, different, awesome, are better words to describe it. It's the style and direction that the game takes that makes it "kid friendly" not the graphics. For example, both SpongeBob and South Park have thick outlines around the characters yet both shows are directed towards two entirely different demographics.

Crackdown consistently has far more people, far more cars, and far more movable objects on the screen at any given time then any other game of this genre. You may prefer the "style" of Saint's Row to the "style" of Crackdown, but there's no way I would let someone tell me that Saint's Row has better graphics they are both good in there own respective purpose. Saints Row is a lot more realistic, Crackdown is just wacked right out.
Crackdown controls quite well. There's nothing particularly special about the controls, but they are very precise and easy to use; important for rooftop jumping and driving, both of which features heavily in this game. Ranged combat uses a lock-on system, but still allows for reticle-aimed fire, like Saints Row. Driving has an excellent feel to it, and there are pronounced differences between the different car models. This pleases me greatly.

Sound wise I kinda like the music featured in this game, not the greatest but it gets the job done. The effects are clear and loud, the voice-acting is adequate, and the ambient sound really brings the city to life in Dolby 5.1.
Suggestions: Crackdown pushes the action-driving hybrid genre into the next generation with the first ever truly 3-D playground with some innovative Xbox Live capabilities. What’s not to like. I suggest you save your money for this game, not to mention you get a free Halo 3 beta. Now that is what I call a whole lotta bang for your buck.
