So sayeth (http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/08/black-xbox-360-with-120gb-hdd-and-hdmi-due-for-april/) Engadget:

Look, we can't really be bothered to confirm or deny any of the rumors flying around here, we're just in this for the cute kangaroo pics. But digging a little deeper, we discover a word from GamersReports that they've got an "inside source" saying Microsoft Australia tipped off retail store Myer about a Black Xbox 360 (http://www.engadget.com/tag/Xbox360) with a 120GB hard drive a couple of days ago. Now apparently more sources have confirmed the reports, even tossing HDMI into the mix (making it into a sort of black Zephyr (http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/05/the-second-xbox-360-revealed-codename-zephyr/)), along with a $749 AU (about $584) pricetag and a supposed April launch date. The sources even say that Microsoft is hoping to beat projections and launch in March to disrupt Sony's March 23rd PS3 launch (http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/24/ps3-hits-europe-march-23-840-60gb-only/). GamersReports also claims that there are now pics of the Black 360 floating around on the internets, so we'll keep an eye out for those, and until we spot a few kangaroos slipping Premium Black packages into their pouches along with an extra controller and a copy of Rainbow Six, that's about all the cred we're going to give this rumor for now.

Also, Xboxic has a picture of a Best Buy ad containing a black Xbox 360 (http://www.xboxic.com/news/1676).

So, all you current Xbox 360 owners... you'd better hope for a trade-in program, 'cause you just got screwed.

You paid the same amount of money for less capability in your hardware.

Let's not forget that these codename Zephyr 360s supposedly have 65nm CPUs (http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/26/65nm-xbox-360-cpu-refresh-delayed-until-mid-2007/), and apparently new DVD drives (http://www.engadget.com/2007/02/06/xbox-360-finally-quiets-down-with-brand-new-internal-dvd-drive/) as well.

You guys are looking at this WAY wrong... When the slim lined PS2 came out with the network adapter built-in came out, did anyone that bought the original PS2 and network adapter feel screwed?

It's just a new model with new features. It'll sell to those that were holding out, and those who already got one will either buy another one or not.

I don't see it as a "miscrosoft screwed me" move

I don't see how anyone got screwed really.

I'll probably not even wait for the new one to come out. I personally won't probably even use 60 gb. I don't even know what the HDMI does, and if it doesn't affect games I don't care too much to be honest.

No one felt screwed over the network adapter, and why would they? The thing was built in. That's a good thing. People felt screwed over the loss of the ability to use a hard drive, however.

Just less wires basically, instead of 5 wires (component) HDMI has everything in one wire.

So how does the FM2 game look? Have you heard if they are going to make the replay feature different?

Uh, did you read what you posted? That new 360 (if true) would be $584 or probably $599 here in the States. Compared to $399 that I paid back in December 05? How was I screwed?

As a rule, early adopters do pay more, and miss out on the improvements that come out later -the upside is being among the first to enjoy next-gen gaming.

A black 360 would be cool though, just like how I'd want a white 360 if the rest were black. :D

Yea, gotta go with the popular consesus, I don't really feel screwed at all. I don't need 120 gig. my 10 gig will last the life of this generation of gaming consoles, with room to spare. I only have 1 hdmi slot, and ps3 takes that. and i spent 399.00, not just under 600.00.

It will cost exactly the same as the current 360: $400. As a rule, Europe and Australia pay more for consoles and games. Why? I believe it's the cost of importing plus local taxes.

ok here is what i meant to say instead of 'yawn' .....this is still in rumor stage, and no prices has been announced...

some feel like they would be shafted by m$, but the majority don't. as long as the 120g hd (if it comes out) is a reasonable price to add on. hdmi isn't an issue for me and many others. also, being an early adopter, you take chances with technology. that will always be the case....what if you buy a 4000 dollar 1080i hdtv from samsung, and then boom a 4000 dollar 1080p samsung tv comes out 6 months later? i mean....ds to ds lite...and all the ps2 revisions...xbox1 redesign....the gameplay and graphical quality isn't changing....new 360 games will play on the original one.

its just a non issue really

i could see them giving the discount off the hard drive, or just make it cheap. one thing about ps3 that is hot is the ability to replace the hard drive with ease...or use an external hd for game saves and stuff....

I don't feel screwed as long as they come out with the individual harddrive attachment to get that space.

Otherwise what is this? A black version with an HDMI port? Yawn indeed. I'm not even sure I'll pick up the extra harddrive. The current one is doing me fine.

why is HDMI huge? Isnt just one cable intead of 3 like that one guy said. For me that is an absolute non issue, and im sure its a non issue for a lot of people out there. So the new one is black...so the f*** what, so it has a 120 GB hard drive...cool, I'll just buy that add on if i need it, which i probably wont. I didnt really wanna get all pissy about this, but i mean honestly its cool and all, but in no way do i feel screwed because i have an "old" 360. Its like what an earlier poster said, if all the 360's were black and they were coming out with a white model, then everyone would be like, "OMG i need that sweet white one!" lol, not a big deal to me, as you can probably tell.

Well HDMI, is the current connector for HD enabled devices. It gives you access to 1080p on a PS3 and now xbox360. It is truely digital so it is immune to analog interference. Also this is huge for the new 360 owners because they can play any 360 1080p content. Some TV's will not accept 1080p through an analog connector.

Dol-Fan Dupree
02-09-2007, 01:58 PM
it is weird how people now accept different consoles types. That used to be one of the big plusses of consoles. Everyone is practically the same. You don't need to buy an add on to get the best out of a game, unless it is some controller like a light gun.

tons of hdtv's are analog anyway, component is capable of 1080p and 360 outputs 1080p right now with component or vga. and most of the tv's that don't accept 1080p over component are sony's believe it or not.

my budget westy displays 1080p over component, vga, and hdmi. hdmi is a step in the wrong direction, these massive companies want you to LOVE hdmi, as it fits right into their anti piracy plans for the future.

I can't get too concerned over 1080p yet, considering my provider company(directv) doesn't boradast in 1080P. and don't argue with me, they dont. my installer told me so yesterday... he also told me randy moss got traded for a 3rd round pick though.:hmph:
