I would love to have him, but he wants to be the highest paid corner in the league. Whether he accomplishes that or not, it will be too much money for us.

He'll want to be the highest paid free agent. And with only Adelius Thomas to compete with, he just might be.

yeah, like 17 million in up front bonus money. fools gold. Only a QB that is a pro bowler is worth that kind of crazy money. Why spend it all on a corner.

Dude, why do you always want the "name"? We have many holes to fill and Samuel would take up much of that money. The superstar is great if we were on the cusp of the elite teams. We are not close yet. I want to make the playoffs and Samuel and a bunch of our money will not help us get there. He will not "cure all are problems", not even close.

It should be an honor to him to actually play for the Dolphins, and live in South Florida. Not for the $$

You are a wise man to perceive this so ardently. However,, I hope you realize the full extent of what you are proposing. Signing Nate, to something like a 50 million 6 year contract, isn't just another big FA signing, it is a commitment on the part of the Dolphins to a rebuilding year.

I also believe it is something the Dolphins must do. But I also understand that having as many FA's as we do, and having 13.5 in cap room, spending this much on any player is going to force us into submitting to a year of lowered expectations. NOT GIVING UP!! But a lot of decisions will have to based on a strategy towards the 2008 season and beyond.

Nate is all about the money. Rumored numbers are he is looking for a 5 year 38 mil with an 17-20 mil bonus

If the Bills, who have alot of cap room, feel that he's not worth overpaying. Then why should a team who is currently $13Mil under the cap(maybe 20mil after cuts and restructures) Spend so much on Clements? he's a great corner but **** thats expensive. I just hope he leaves to another division.

Well said.

I read all this bitching about money and wonder how often a marquee player comes cheap?

Dolfans are amazing. You want a franchise QB but god forbid it's with the 9th pick in the draft. You want solid FAs but don't want to dish out the money to land them. You want a Lombardi trophy but only if it comes cheap. I mean... :sidelol: ... are you kidding?

I understand that throwing money around is not enough to reach the next level. Dan Snyder taught us that lesson well. But it's certainly part of the process. The problem is, instead of overpaying talent that will be ready for a museum in 4 years(Holliday age 31) we should be overpaying talent that will be reaching their peak in 4 years(Clements age 27).

I'm cool with the Holliday sigining. I was just giving an example.

We lack a shutdown corner. Nate Clements is among the best in the business. He's 6 ft, he's 27, he makes plays both INTs and tackles. We can afford to break bank on this guy and fill other roster spots via the draft.

Use the link below and figure the amount of players that HAVE to get cut/restructured. It's bewildering what we are paying some hacks on our squad and we fans take it with a grain a salt becuase well, they're Dolphins. We say "Well, he's serviceable here or can be moved there" BS! If a guy is mediocre that's exactly what he is no matter what jersey he's wearing and should get paid accordingly. Take a look at cap hits from James, McKinney, Shelton to name a few. Excuse my french but **** that.
