Jay Glazer (http://www.kffl.com/link/14), of FOXSports.com (http://www.kffl.com/link/189), reports Chicago Bears (http://www.kffl.com/team/11/nfl) head coach Lovie Smith (http://www.kffl.com/player/8316/nfl) has agreed to a new five-year contract with the team. The new deal gives Smith a major raise in pay, but exact terms were not disclosed. The team is expected to announce the deal Thursday, March 1.

This new is good for Lovie and the NFL. It was a shame IMO that he was the lowest-paid coach in the NFL last season at $1.35 million when he led the Bears to the Super Bowl.



“Sometimes, with a contract, it takes time,” Smith said. “But I’m confident we’ll get it done.”


Smith will about make $22 million in new money and the total value of the five years is $23.45 million, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Congratulations to Lovie, well deserved. What he's done since he's been HC in Chicago has been amazing, I'm glad to see he got an extension and a hefty payday.
