CLEMENTS BLOWS OUT THE CURVE
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the San Francisco 49ers have signed cornerback Nate Clements.
It's a mind-boggling eight-year, $80 million deal, with $22 million in guaranteed money, and it makes Clements the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.
Clements was expected to be pursued by several teams. But he never got out of San Fran.

Maybe but still will get 22 mil, so hence it would be a 2 year 22 mil contract

That contract is unreal...80 mil. He will never see all of it. Although 22 mil is guaranteed. Most likely it will get restructured in two to three years. Definitely priced the phins out of the running.

Least we won't see him very often, now that he is not with the Bills. I think he was a little overrated, but with the weak free agent class this year he is getting his $$$$.

Highest defensive player in NFL history?

Wow, that brings the league down to ****s.....he's not even a top 3 CB anymore.

Also imagine what that does to the market with the rest of the Corners still out there.

Or even Better is Samuals did not get Franchised there would be 2 contracts of that nature.

Bad thing is any team looking for one of the other CBs are now going to have to shell some money. Nate set the market this year

the broncos made a good move by trading for bly and not letting him get cut and hit the market they got him cheaper now

I'm just glad the Bills are weaker with loosing Nate. :dolphins:

If we can't win within our division, we're going nowhere.

I remember when half this board was screaming let's get Clements.

He wasn't kidding with his contract demands...

Based upon some of the posts I've read about our lack of FA signings, there are probably some "dolphans" out there that are upset we didn't "pull the trigger" and spend the money on him.

This is why we need to take a little time and get the right players for the right price. There are still plenty of good FA players out there that we can go after. Also, more players will be cut in the upcoming months (June 1st deadline stuff) and if we have the cap room then, we can still get real impact players.

As a die-hard Bills fan I wanted him resigned more than any other player or FA.......but damn, not @ those numbers.

Good luck in SF Nate. :cooldude:

<<command>> Accessing... SETTINGS. :::Salary Cap::: OFF.

Unfortunately for the Niners, this isn't Madden.

Did they improve their secondary with the acquisitions of Nate Clements and Michael Lewis? Absolutely.

However... their front office has completely lost their mind. Maybe it's an eighty year contract for $80,000,000... that's a lot of 0's.

Good luck in SF Nate. :cooldude:Even though there's no way he would've accepted it this year, a Franchise tag must look like chump change compared to this contract.

Yeah I'm glad we got him but I feel we may have overpaid for him. For those numbers he better be Deion-esque.

No one is worth that kind of contract. Unless it is Deion Sanders in his prime.

That is a little too much money but I do consider him a Top 5 CB in this league. Good signing for the 9ers...they need the Defensive help. I thought they would've gotten Porter, but thankfully we did :D
