now THIS looks cool....grats Sony on finally laying out an online service that 'in theory' looks worth a damn.

PSHome

check out the video here: http://kotaku.com/gaming/clips/gdc07-clip-the-ps3s-home-242341.php

Basically Xboxlive + Mii's + the sims online = pshome....

Oh and for now "it's free" which is impressive.

I don't think it hits till Fall, and I think after the new year I may be in the market for a ps3 :D

IF it gets pulled off properly? like with lag and stuff......wow...

i will stand here and say.....grats to sony, THIS has my attention. as a gamer, imo, this is the first thing with the ps3 that makes me go "I want one!"

Not too mention a blu ray player (if it keeps up its pace) would be nice to have for >600 (i'll find a slickdeal online)....

So yeah this is me, mister microsoft himself ( :P ) saying nice work sony, now get it implemented and make it be as badass as it looks like it can be and boom, i'll buy you.

I can still go return my 360..hmm..:D

Nah, gonna need both so I can lay the pwnage down on whoever I need on here.

You know what is really cool about this (atleast to me) is that it would be perfect for guild/clan meetings of any kind.

This will surely (if playability is top notch) give XBL a run for it's money. Then again I'm sure Microsoft will come out with something similiar a year down the road.

Good point it would be awesome for guilds and clans to meet. It definately gives me a better reason to get a ps3 soon.

It's just like XBL but you actually get to bs with an avatar instead of send messages. It's not like you sit there for 3 hours chatting..although I'm sure some people will.

Not really. The sims has you spending every second doing random tasks just for the sake of doing tasks. As was already mentioned, this is only XBL with visuals and a ton of customization.

i think it looks amazing. I want it. Microsoft would be smart to come up with some kind of answer to it.

More likelt scenario, Microsoft will wait and see if the gaming world accepts and likes it. If so, then they'll make the 360 version.

It's not a "game" though. Like I said..it's basically XBL with avatars and more customization to make it unique. I personally think it will be great for clan meetings.

It reminds me back in UO when we'd meet up at whoevers house, bull**** for a little while, then go out and pwn face :(

I hope you can adjust your weight. I'm gonna make a big fat black woman.

Yep, and Im sure Msoft is going to think about some way to trump Sony's idea.

The real benefits of true development competition lie with the consumers.

Even if Microsoft does think of some counter-strike to PShome and PShome is still free I think Sony wins. XBL may be a minimal fee but it is a fee nonetheless.

Sony is always doing stuff azzbackwards.

This should have been showcased during the PS3 launch.

Sorta reminds me of IRONFORGE in World of Warcraft. It will probably be worse though...you always ALWAYS have boneheads spamming the main channel. Hopefully Sony will implement a filtering system to alleviate this issue.

mor911
03-09-2007, 12:13 PM
My main concern is something similar... Since this will be a FREE service, what's stopping www.dirtypornsite.com from buying a PS3, making 20 free accounts and using the channel to send spam to everyone?

Is a PS3 linked to a single avatar? Will there be active moderators? How do you pay said moderators with no fees involved. The FREE thing just doesn't sit well with me. I'd rather it cost something and be good that it be FREE and a piece of crap.

Superself
03-09-2007, 12:17 PM
I hear Sony is going to have a lot of advertising displayed in various locations to help subsidize their costs for the system. One area in particular is just before you enter a game...you have to walk through an area or hallway that has a lot of ads.

agree with the paying for something thats good.... but i think there gonna make money with it in advertising....i dont know if you saw the video, but they already have like ads running of like god of war 2, and im sure the basic part is free, but theyll be parts you need to pay to get (like the arcade games, etc.) so im sure there getting soem money somehow.

but who knows maybe, they can make mor ...... a ps3 home mod  .

Not really that hard to slam the door on those types once they get reported. The mac address is a good way for Sony to keep track of what you are doing.
Won't be worth it if your PS3 gets a permaban from using that service. I doubt people will invest in a PS3 just for spamming...you'd need several of them. The only way I see this happening is if a trojan horse virus somehow infiltrates their network. Chances of this happening are slim though.

Sorry bro, but I ....am just not impressed.:(

Its just a mishmash of NBA 2K7 'the Crib' (or ie. any house or apartment collecting trophies and stuff furniture sim) and WoW's town of Goldshire just without the naked Night Elves dancing on the tables.

Dont get me wrong, its a new concept compared to the plain ol' menu's of the 360.

However, it wouldnt sway me one bit as to whether or not to buy the console.

Maybe PC games have spoiled the newness of this kind of thing because for me at least this is just same ol' stuff.

The only thing that sounded remotely interesting was that you could go to someones house and watch a movie there that they have on their HD.

However itll be most likely I can imagien on their TV 'screen' which'll most likely be like 4-5 inches big.

Hey, anything is better than what Sony had up until now thats for sure.

EDIT: Let me add that I am not trashing the system itself...I just dont think this is that revolutionary really...I still think that the system is defined by the games and I am sure the PS3 will pick some good ones up this year which I for one am waiting for a few.

need to convince wife I NEED this... how?

Hmm....every woman is different bro....

For me, what works best is to let her splurge every once in awhile on what she likes...(for mine its clothes)

Then when the time is right I pull one of these:

"Honey, I'm going to buy a PS3." - me

"What? Wait, thats like $600 right? Thats too much money your crazy." -wife

"Hey, hey, wait a second. When you went to the mall the other day and spent $600 on clothes and shoes or whatever I didnt say anything." -me

"SO. You know I needed some new stuff for work." -wife

"You didnt need $600 worth of stuff. Want me to go look at the receipt and see if it was all for work? That mini skirt looking thing doesnt look like its for work now does it?" - me

"Whatever." -wife

"OK, look. You got your stuff, I'll get this and then thats it until like my birthday or whatever....just make this an early b-day gift and whatnot." - me

"OK, fine. Como tu chibas" -wife

"Cool. I love you Honey" - me :D   :cooldude:

EDIT: I'd also like to add that you make damn sure you are nowhere near that time of the month. Make sure its about a week AFTER. Thats the best time for my wife. A week before or during that time, such a suggestion of buying a piece of $600 equipment lands me in the dog house for weeks. :(

Wow nice, i have to say i'm impressed. While they do take a lot of ideas from nintendo and XBL(to be fair it's impossible not to), they aren't so obvious as to say it's a blatant rip-off. This makes me genuenly want to buy a ps3... if i had $600.

However, knowing sony's track record, it's practically impossible this thing is not too good to be true. It may be free, but only for a bare bones version ala XBL silver.

Same here man, well maybe GTA IV edges it out but I have been waiting for SOMETHING to really make me want a PS3 and this is it.
