Anti-Telemarketing List Opens for Registration (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=569&ncid=578&e=3&u=/nm/20030627/tc_nm/telecoms_telemarketing_dc)
Federal officials said consumers are now able to place their home and mobile telephone numbers on a free, national "do not call list" of households that do not want to receive telephone sales calls, by logging on to (http://donotcall.gov) or calling 1-888-382-1222.

The site is being overrun. Imagine that. :)

I'm so glad this finally came about.

Man is that great or what. I already had to call the phone company to see what could be done and they put me on a state do not call list so I don't have any calls at all now. That was about a year or so ago. Before I did that I would get at least six or seven calls every single day starting at about eigth in the morning.

I also read there were they are going to sue due to free speech rights. Yeah right.

Free speech my azz. I have the right not to be HARASSED. We'll sue for HARASSMENT.

I don't get them either. I only have a cell phone. :) But I go visit my parents and their phone doesn't stop ringing. I'm signing them up ASAP.

By noon the list had grown to 370,000 and the Web site was receiving 1,000 hits per second, the FTC said.

No wonder I couldn`t get in!

Wait till 2-3 am. I doubt you'll have trouble then. :) Then again, we're talking about sticking it to telemarketers. :)

Anybody else having problems registering? I`ve done it twice. You`re supposed to get two e-mail notifications that you are supposed to click on to complete the process. I haven`t received them.

Now if they'd only start something that fights FAX spam. My family's business gets slammed with them. Not only is it tying up an important business line, but they're using YOUR paper for THEIR advertising. Burns me up.

I signed up last night at 11:30 and didn't have any problems. I hate sales calls.

I just signed up and sent the link to a bunch of friends and family.
